HDD problem?

I purchased this hard disk about 2 or 3 months back and have been using it without any problem. It's a Western Digital made Harddisk which has a capacity of 500GB. I've partitioned it, 50GB for my OS, and the rest is as a storge.

Today morning , when i turned my computer on and started my usual applications, my pc hanged and i couldn't move anything. Not even the mouse. I tried it a few times , even tried to reboot to safe mode but it didnt work. So i went to run-->cmd--> typed " chkdsk /r" and it told me to reboot for the check disk to take place. So i reboot and it started checking the disk. At the 4th out of 5th step, it froze at 61%.

So i reformat my computer. Now the problem is, When i am installing files from my cd to my computer, It becomes really slow as in sluggish. My mouse curson wouldn't respond for a few seconds, or it will but it will stop as it's moving and when i am playing movies in the background, the sound becomes laggy. As in Normally it's "hello" now it's "heeeelllooooOOo" if i am copying something in the background.

Previously i could run many many things without it being slowed down at all, but now, even if i am copying something this problem occurs. Is there any solution?

Need Technical assistance

Well i want to establish a vpn connection (to BT) but the problem is i am playing a game which doesnt accept foreign ip. So i either have to play the game and let my download idle or start my vpn so the download can work while my game is closed.

It's wasteful if like that since i dont use my vpn just because of the game.

I was thinking if i can make a virtual system in my computer so that i can connect the vpn inside the virtual system while playing my game outside of the virtual system so no ip conflicts. What program is recomended? Also after downloading the materials by my bt client in the virtual system, how do i copy them to my other harddisk? or to my main harddisk?

Streamyx Static ip?

Well, i was wondering, if i can get back the same ip after disconnecting.

I mean, currently the 124 ip range works best for me. But most of the time i get 60.53 ip

I am using a ADSL USB modem.

Anyways is there anything i can do to save the 124 ip? Example if i am connected now, i get the ip 124.12.32.23 and after disconnecting, maybe when reconnecting i get back that same ip. What can i do to config that?

Ubuntu Sluggish...

Well i just installed opera, and it seems to be running quite sluggish after i open more than 6 or 7 tabs. While in windows, it works like a charm even with 20 tabs running. I doubt its my pc problem as im having a Pentium D with 2 GB of Ram, Graphic card shouldnt be a prob too.I have not much application running so that couldnt be the problem too. Any suggestions? (no corny talk like dont open more than 6 or 7 tabs then )

Script to download files via http

well, i have a server online and im planning to use it to host stuff. I want a script where i host it on my server and when i put a link to it, it would download the file and save in the server. One such script is rapidleech. It uses the hosted server to download files from rapidshare or http sites. Too bad alot of host blocks it. So i want another script so i can download stuff via http. Not rapidshare.
