Cheque got hijacked, money taken out by other ppl

Hi guys,

Wanna ask you all for your advice and opinion because this is the first time I've encounter this situation.

My aunt have written a cheque to pay for yearly insurance. The cheque clearly written RM3K and got write the insurance company name. Then the insurance fella car kena break in, so cheque also missing but he forgot to inform us asap. After 1 week, now got other people bank in under another company name at an amount of RM10.7K!

Now my aunt lost RM10.7K, and still have to fork out RM3K to pay the insurance. Tried to get the bank to transfer back the money but that person already closed the account.

My question now is what can my aunt do? Report police and sue the bank? Because it's the bank's fault for 1) not contacting my aunt for the big amount of money and 2) the cheque must have been tampered and/or erased from the original company name (this is not like xxx Sdn Bhd, then the scammer add extra "trading" behind or something). It's totally a new and different name, not to mention the amount as well.

Report to DAP? lol kesian see my aunt so old liao but kena stolen so big amount

Dell laptop lags terribly when gaming recently

Hi guys, would need your kind advice on my 3 year old Dell laptop which start giving me problems lately.

Previously I was able to play games such as COD 4, Mafia 2, Dota 2, Assassin Creed, Sims 3 and so forth. But now every time I loads up a game, halfway through it starts lagging very badly (like a bad frame, background music like jerking like kena chopped into pieces). I can't play any game smoothly anymore, and occasionally my laptop will auto shut down halfway during a game.

This has not happen before and it just started lagging recently. After the lagging and jerking begin, I force quit the games but my whole computer become super laggy. My mouse move very slowly from one point to another. I have to restart my computer in order for the lagness to stop.

Here are my computer specs:

OS - Windows 7, 64 bit
Processor - Intel i5 CPU, 2.7 Ghz
Memory - 4GB RAM
Display - ATI Radeon HD 550v, 2739 MB

Computer performances:

Processor - 6.9
Memory - 5.9
Graphics - 5.9
Gaming graphics - 6.6
Primary hard disk - 5.9

I'm currently not using laptop battery and just plug-in from power source.

Things that I've done to increase performance but still useless:
1. changed my Windows 7 theme to Windows Classic
2. Defrag both hard disks
3. Error checking both hard disks
4. Ran anti virus check

Could this be a virus or a certain software that's taking up all my space? I've Avast antivirus installed but they didn't detect anything.

Please advice how can I solve this issue. Thanks

[WTA] Credit Card got stolen

Hi guys.

I need some advice.

My mom's hand bag got stolen in her shop today. The thief took all her credit cards and IC and very swiftly swiped at a lot of shops in the same shopping mall. Total up they swiped about RM20K with different amounts at each shops (RM3K, RM6K, etc).

She had called the bank to cancel the credit cards already but they said it was too late as the transaction already occurred. The bank customer service said it was my mom's mistake for being careless in losing the credit cards. But he wasn't sure whether my mom will need to pay for the full amount or not, as they will bring this case to the HQ next week.

My question is, can we bring this case to argue with the bank (and possibly not to pay the RM20K)? I mean, it's really a very very huge amount...

Honestly I feel that the bank is being very irresponsible. My mom is the victim here as her credit cards are being stolen and not because she careless lose it somewhere. The bank should have called my mom to confirm the sales transaction as every swipe was just 10 minutes apart from each other (from an optical shop to computer shop transaction). She tried to argue with this point but the bank replied that "because it's approaching end of the year sales, they assume it's us having a shopping spree". What shopping spree goes from one shop to another and buy RM20K products in just 10 minutes apart?!

Also, I always thought that it's a normal procedure for the bank to call if a huge amount of sales transaction taking place (RM6K and RM10K), but the bank said she never requested for this service. She need to fill in a form to notify the bank for this service when she was applying for the credit card. Is there such a thing? Because they never told us at the beginning when we were applying for the credit card. All they mentioned was just how many freebies we're getting and how they'll pay for the annual RM50 fee.

Furthermore, she rarely use the credit cards for large amount of purchases. It's always a few hundreds for petrol and some RM1K transaction for her shop products. The bank could have noticed the weird pattern that suddenly went from daily purchases to a 30 minute RM20K purchases. Not to mentioned that the thief also need to sign for the credit card purchases, which I'm sure they are not able to make an identical signature in just 30 minutes after stealing it. So i'm really confused how they managed to get approved.

My mom had already made a police report and dispute form. We had her shop's CCTV that recorded the thief's face but the police doesn't want to come to the shop to have a look. She also lodged a report to the shopping mall management but to no avail. She tried to ask the computer shops for their CCTV records (which they don't want to show) and asked if they had any personal detail of the thief, you know with the warranty card and all but they only had the thief's phone number, which we aren't sure is genuine or not.

What else can my mom do now besides the police report and dispute form for the credit card and waiting for the bank's reply?

Frankly, im quite disappointed with Malaysian police, but that is another story. And I'm currently studying oversea, so I can't help my mom personally. Haiz. Wish I can just call the bank and argue with them about this.

Need help, weird driver installed itself suddenly

Dear all,

I'm currently at a Mcdonald's wanted to surf with their WIFI and as I on my laptop from hibernation suddenly I see a notification saying driver is installing and this popped up:

Curious with the driver name, i searched through my device manager and found this:

As my laptop only had 1 CD-ROM driver, I find it strange to have another driver "suddenly" installed itself again. Since my laptop is not a new model (around 2 years already) I'm sure any CD-ROM driver would already been installed 2 years ago.

I click on details on this "new" driver and it says driver date 21/6/2006, which is the same date with my another/original CD-ROM driver.

I tried Google for solution but found nothing.

Is this a new form of virus? If yes, how should I remove it? Right now I only disabled it but if it's a virus im sure it can find it's way through

More information: Before I on my laptop from hibernation I was at my University surfing, and when I on my laptop Im still not connected to the Internet when this device was installing.

Hi ppl..im not sure im in the right subforum or not, but i really need help on this problem im facing right now.

This morning, as usual i brought my laptop to office to do work, and when i was away for lunch, i left my laptop hibernating, and to login my user ppl will need to key in my password (which i highly doubt any of my colleague would know).

Then as i came back from lunch (about 2-3 hours later cuz I went out to meet client), when i log in back to my user, i found my display settings changed into a much smaller sizes, as if my display was viewed/hacked by a bigger computer when i was away.

I checked and all my files are still there, but it still troubles me how someone would want to hack my computer if we were all in the same company. And how did he/she did it? I only connected to the company's internet, is it possible that they hack through the internet connection?

Any ways to prevent this from happening again?

I just format my pc to Windows XP recently and as I was copying my files from external hard disk to my PC's hard disk, this error comes out :

and it does not allow the file to continue being copied. I format my pc a few times before but I never have this problem before...
