iPhone 3Gs vs. Sony Walkman A729

Hi all,

I just recently got an iPhone 3Gs and have been using it as my main DAP. My preferred IEM is the UE Triple. Fi 10 pro. I love the sound of the tf10 and all this while have been using it with my Walkman player. I always thought the synergy between the 2 was great cuz the Sony is a somewhat warm source and the the tf10 is kinda bright. But after I got the iPhone, I've had to rethink this opinion. Why? Well below are some of my thoughts:

-iPhone has a less coloured sound and really brings out the beauty of the tf10's sound signature, especially the details.
-wider soundstage than the Sony.
-Sony has a warm and fuzzy sound IMO
-Sony also seems to have a more forward mids which to my ears kinda narrows the soundstage when used with tf10.

Dont get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the Sony sound and I still love it, especially the warm and full bass (Clear Bass). The iPhone although more truthful to the original recording, does lack a bit in the bass department comapred to Sony. This is even more evident when using the tf10 which is kinda bass shy and is quite bright. If only the low end was a bit more on the iPhone I think it would really shine with the tf10. Not that it doesn't already . Never expected to sold on the iphone's sound but I am!

Reason I posted this topic is to see if anyone has had a similar experience so we can exchange views possibly. I'm still new to audiophiles worlds so am really keen to learn more from the sifus.

Ps: my setup consists of either Walkman or iPhone and the tf10. No amps involved as I don't have any yet. All my songs are 320kbps CBR or 320kbps VBR (with min. Bitrate of 192 Kbps). Genres cover majority of the rock gamut.

Thanks in advance for any kind souls who took the time to read and reply
