So every time you change between TOU and non-TOU,
+ RM10 stamp duty
+ Additional 8% SST on your bill. No without SST for first 600kWh even prorated.

QUOTE(soonwai @ Sep 4 2025, 06:46 PM)

Found this at https://www.mytnb.com.my/faq
Applied to my examples:
1. 88 kWh no SST (28 days)1️⃣ & 9 kWh 9 got SST (3 days)2️⃣
2. 1310 kWh 710 got SST (31 days)1️⃣ & 40 kWh 40 got SST (1 day)2️⃣
3. 334 kWh 334 got SST (25 days):2️⃣ & 74 kWh 74 got SST (6 days)2️⃣

OK, settled lah. Lucky I haven't submitted my ticket yet.

[@ZeneticX]
Conclusion: To avoid SST for those below 600 kWh, do the TOU change on(?) or after the 28th day. This will ensure no SST for the 1st interim bill but cannot avoid SST for the 2nd interim/final bill.

Alternatively, can move to Pulau Tioman, Pulau Langkawi or Pulau Pangkor.

Selling car personally - ownership transfer

I know this had been asked countless time here but just want to confirm because it seems no clear answer regarding it

So if both me and the buyer have mysikap.... we no longer need to go JPJ to do physical thumbprint right? I just do the transfer process online, then buyer do his part and that's it? And buyer need to collect the physical VOC from JPJ. Is it possible to do both seller and buyer process on the same day?

Driving from JB to Singapore

I'm going to SG on March 7 for Taylor Swift concert, original plan was to stay there but recently check hotel price upcar liao minimum price per night was like RM700 - 800+ for a decent 3 star hotel (my mistake for not checking and book earlier), and this is not including flight or bus ticket yet. Flight was like 600+ per person return trip and bus is 200+

so i'm thinking to just stay at JB then drive down to SG

few questions since this is my first time driving there -

i) other than apply VEP/Autopass, what else do I need?

ii) is it better to enter from Woodlands or Tuas? Assuming non peak hours

iii) what time does the immigration check point closes? or are they 24 hr?

iv) I'm thinking to also park my car at some parking near MRT and just rely on MRT for the rest of SG travel. Any parking spots to recommend?

EV Owners Face Soaring Insurance Rates In UK

QUOTE

Automotive insurers in Britain have refuted allegations of profiteering following a massive 50 percent increase in the cost of insuring electric vehicles in 2023. As a result, drivers in the country are now paying nearly double the insurance premiums compared to owners of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Insurers respond that there’s little they can do, and that the premiums are determined by claim costs and frequency. They say that accidental damage claims on EVs are 35 percent more expensive than comparable repairs for combustion engine vehicles.

Insurance premiums for EVs surged to an average of £1,344 (approximately US$1,700 at current exchange rates) at the end of 2023, reports Bloomberg. Insurers point to several factors contributing to this increase, including the elevated cost of repairs, a shortage of mechanics trained in EV servicing, and extended garage time for these vehicles.

“You’ve got length of repair times going up, you’ve got the cost of the component parts going up, and you probably see more EVs written off because residual values are particularly low at the moment,” Carl Shuker, Howden Group Holding’s CEO for the UK and Ireland.

The high insurance rates are putting pressure on the EV market, which is showing signs of a slowdown. Europe, including the UK, is experiencing a cost of living crisis, while the growth of charging infrastructure is stagnating.

Although the Tesla Model Y was the top-selling vehicle overall in Europe in 2023, the EV market share did not grow in the UK for the first time in recent years. It is also noteworthy that the American crossover was the only fully electric model in the top 30 of the continent’s sales charts. That’s particularly relevant here, as studies have found that Tesla EVs cost more to fix than most other electric models, which tend to be only marginally more expensive to fix than combustion vehicles.

https://www.carscoops.com/2024/01/uk-insure...ump-50-in-2023/

not just in UK.... Thailand soon also

QUOTE

Thailand's insurance industry is set to expand alongside the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs), according to Bangkok Insurance's CEO and president, Apisit Anantanatarat. However, he also noted that EVs present new challenges for the insurance sector, given their novelty.

In a report from The Nation, Apisit remarked that EVs have a higher loss ratio compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, primarily due to the specialised nature of their repairs and the high cost of spare parts, especially batteries. These batteries are not repairable and can cost 50-60% of the EV's price. Unlike ICE vehicles, EV wrecks offer no value in terms of spare parts, impacting their insurance costs.

Apisit expressed concern over Thai insurance companies' competition in offering low rates for EV insurance. This strategy might overlook the higher loss ratio of EVs, potentially affecting the financial stability of these companies if they fail to adjust their premiums within the next two years.

Despite these concerns, Bangkok Insurance remains focused on the EV market, viewing it as a key priority for 2024. This is in line with a report indicating a tenfold increase in Thailand's EV sales this year.

According to KResearch, Thailand has the potential to become a regional hub for EV production. The shift towards EVs is evident globally, including in Thailand, as seen at the 40th Thailand International Motor Expo, where there was significant interest in EVs among the vehicles booked.

Beyond EVs, Bangkok Insurance plans to enhance its range of products, including home, asset, and personal insurance, with a focus on personalisation. The company aims to introduce new insurance packages tailored to specific demographics, such as pet owners, senior citizens, and travellers. It anticipates growth in travel insurance as tourism rebounds after the pandemic.

To increase insurance premium sales, Bangkok Insurance intends to employ an embedding marketing strategy. This involves partnering with telecom providers and retailers to offer insurance as an add-on to regular service fees.

This strategic approach coincides with Bangkok Insurance's financial performance. The company reported a 12.5% increase in total premium income in the first nine months, reaching THB21.982 billion. Its combined net profit from insurance and investments after taxes was THB2.546 billion, with a projected year-end revenue of around THB30 billion.

In other news from the country, the Thai insurance sector is poised for increased competition in the coming year, with a surge in public awareness about health insurance, according to Bundit Jiamanukoonkit, CEO of Prudential Thailand.

https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/asia/n...ion-470475.aspx

think I better reconsider getting Tesla liao and wait for another 5 - 10 years see how it goes
