Sarah O'Connor tweets news about killer robot

July 02, 2015: When a German VW robot killed a car worker in a tragic accident, “Terminator” devotees began to wonder if the machines were really taking over. The paranoia grew when the reporter tweeting the news was Sarah Connor – sorry, Sarah O’Connor of the FT.

The Twitter frenzy started when Sarah O’Connor, employment correspondent at the Financial Times, tweeted the news of a robot killing a human being. The similarity of her name to that of the character Sarah Connor, played by Linda Hamilton in the original Terminator movie, wasn’t lost on the fans.

The real-life tragedy occurred at a plant belonging to German automaker Volkswagen (VW) in Baunatal, on Monday, where robot’s manipulator grabbed a maintenance worker and thrust him against a metal slab, causing fatal injuries.

RT Source

John Connor, it is time

My parents going to disown my brother

tl;dr warning, go to the bottom for summary.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I have a younger brother. He is now 21, his SPM grades was average, if anything strong it was English. When he finished SPM, my parents sat down and had a very long chat with him like when I finished my SPM. Basically asking what are your interest, further studies, career plans and how to finance them.

My brother said he has no interest in anything but my father insists he must have a further qualification beyond his SPM, at least a diploma or some sorts. He had some interest in baking previously, having watch many baking videos / TV shows and had a one week stint helping a local bakery for charity. So all came to agreement to send him for baking diploma course when he was 18.

Now at the end of the course, the academy will give them a certificate. But to get a diploma you must have a short 3 month internship with a professional bakery after the end of the course. Doesn't matter the prestige or how it runs, as long as it has a license and its certified to sell baking goods then it is all go. This is where it all starts to go downhill. The academy have links with those hotels/restaurants/bakeries and normally before the end of the course all students will have a placement to intern in.

My brother got what his coursemates call the 'jackpot'. International hotel chain just 20 minutes bus ride from the house with good allowance and meals included. I really don't know what happened to him but in one month he was fired because after my mother called up the HR and asked, she was told my brother ponteng kerja, ambil MC, bagi alasan banyak2. But everyday he left the house on time and came back late and tired so we all thought he was working hard the entire day!

My family (me included) was shocked. He never ponteng in class or tuition but this is serious. We asked if he was bullied? Or he was asked to do things that he didn't like? etc. He just told us with a straight face, "I don't like the place." What, why, how he cannot explain. We were all like blur. But the most sad thing is he was actually fired after first 2 weeks, and for the remainder of the month he just go and act like he was working. (Strike 1)

So we call the academy, they just told us its ok. As long as you find a spot that gives you 3 months experience we will give you the diploma no matter how long it takes. My parents were asking my brother you have to take this thing seriously. Just bear the 3 months, get the diploma and then you can do whatever you want. So he went and go look for jobs. After 3 months without even a reply, something was odd. I snoop around a bit, he never sents mails, resume or even bother to make applications while all the time lying my parents he was trying his darn best to search for the position and going out mamak to lepak. (In truth, my parents knew but I think they can't just bring their hearts to yell at him at this stage for being bit lazy). (Strike 2)

By chance, one day an opening for a bakery was available in town. My mother called up and arranged an interview with the HR because she cannot tahan see my brother wasting his days. He reluctantly go but came back after an hour and said the HR went out for meeting. In the afternoon that same day my mum called the HR again and the HR is still waiting for my brother! (Strike 3) This time my father brought him to the shop and wait till the interview was finished. He got the job and he will start work the next week.

That's if he ever went take the job seriously in the first place ... Sigh ... He did the same act again like last time until he kena pecat again (Strike 4). Being lazy and lying to my parents without blinking his eyes. My dad was angry because my brother broke his vow he will work hard so last time's thing won't happen again. My mum (who has been very protective to my brother) even raised her hand to slap him (That's a first for me).

And recently, my mum pulled some strings to land him a job in another bakery. Same pattern! (Strike 5) But this time after taking many MCs, lies (mum called HR to confirm), and reasons... He quit the job because he wants 5 day working schedule. My mum broke down and asked why did he became like this. He doesn't answer to any of the questions. He even made a snarky comment that maybe he should work as a labourer. Don't need to think so susah, just use muscles. That pissed of my dad which basically says he is an outsider of the house and cutting of all allowances since he is now an adult. Also recently my dad said if he doesn't pay up rent he will halau him out like a tenant.

My brother is becoming a pathological liar and lazy to work. My parents wanted to halau him now and disown him if he farks it up the last time. (I just hope this is a ploy to wake him up, but the words my parents used were very hurtful and I think they're serious this time.)

What I can do to advise him ? I have had many long chats with him. I asked nicely him to think about his future, he just mention he wants a simple job with enough salary to pass the day. When asked what is his future plan? Marriage? Family? He doesn't know how to answer or choose not to answer. Right now he working part time 4 hours a day I think.

I asked him to apologize and ask forgiveness from our parents, even if my dad doesn't take it ("You call that person your brother? That's a conman living in under our roof"). I also asked him to prove his words through his actions because once he takes the first step I will support him and eventually my parents too. But I can see it in his eyes that he doesn't care at all. He's now playing games with his laptop in his room. I don't know what happened to him.

I worry for him as a sibling on his future, for our parents can't take care of us forever and I am not the one who will support him when they're gone. I support letting him out and man de fark up but he doesn't want to make the first step. These incidents for the past 3 years has strained his relationship to our parents. I don't know how to fix it, now it's just 3 of us makan at family table while he comes back late at night to makan reheated leftovers. He is avoiding contact with all of us as much as possible.

It hurts looking both how cold my parents treat my brother now when he was the one they showered most of their love I'm just thankful so far he wasn't caught up in drugs, gambling or mlm scheme.

PS I'm just writing this now cause I need somewhere to vent. I will check back for replies after work.

Hi all,

I have a friend who has finished an art-stream Diploma from a private institution last year and he wishes to apply to Public / Private University to further his studies. I know that to enroll in a private uni is pretty straight forward but how bout public universities? Does he have to go through the UPU thing? Also is he able to take up, oh say, a Finance related degree instead something related to his diploma?

Cheers.

State Governments and the Subordinate Courts

Hi, I've always wondered. Does the state government (not the executive or legislative) have jurisdiction over the lower courts (Magistrate, Sessions, Shariah) and also the High court? Because, I've seen the organizational chart of the state of Selangor and it show the High, Sessions, Magistrate & Shariah court under the jurisdiction of HRH the Sultan of Selangor.
I'm asking in the sense that who is actually administering the day-to-day functions of these courts? The state government or federal government?

Need some advice after SPM

Hi forumers of Lowyat.Net,

As the topic itself is pretty clear, I just got my SPM result slip yesterday. I am quite surprised on the result I got:

Bahasa Melayu B4
Bahasa Inggeris A1
Bahasa Cina B4
Mathemathics A1
Additional Maths B3
Chemistry A2
Physics A1
Biology A2
Sejarah A1
P. Moral A2
EST A2

All in all I got 4A1 4A2 1B3 and 2B4. The thing is I'm still undecided (or maybe don't know) on what should I do after this. I don't have a real interest in all the 11 subjects I have token (Don't know what I study for for the past 5 years ). My school councilor that day take day off Anyways, I'm opting to study overseas maybe at Singapore or Australia (My family has the financial capability, I think).

So my question is:
What after this?
