USB C Issues (LG Gram 17 Core 155H)

Hi guys, I have just noticed that my USB C ports are not working.

Charging the laptop works fine, but connecting USB drives and phones does not work.

It sometimes/intermittently works - and when it does, it seems to have a stable connection (eg I can watch a movie off a USB C thumbdrive). However, if I unplug the thumbdrive (or restart the computer), it can stop detecting any devices plugged in.

Im sure it's an issue with the laptop, as I can connect my phone (S24) and USB C thumbdrive to another laptop uneventfully.

Of note, the USB A ports seem to be working uneventfully. II can still connect my phone with a USB A to C cable.

Model 17Z90S-G.AA78A

I've tried the following:
-device manager >> USB C Controller >> disable "allow device to be put to sleep to save power"
-restart of all devices.
-cleaning ports
-reinstalling USB root hub and USB 3.2 controller from device manager.
-Rebooting computer and all devices.
-While turned off, Holding power button for 30-60seconds (power light blips once but unit doesnt power on. I wonder what this does...but read somewhere it might work). Then restarting the computer.
-enabling / disabling USB Offline charging in LG SmartAssistant.

I am at my wits end. Im starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue. This is really unexpected from a RM 9k laptop.

Update 26/6/24:

What worked was a factory reset of the system. I strongly suspect one of the driver updates caused issues with the USBC hub.

Now im only installing windows updates and not LG driver updates via the LG update manager. Seems to be ok with windows update recommended everything. Havent installed latest LG device drivers.

S24 Dual e-Sim + Physical Sim

I have a S24U and my wife has a S24.
Very quick question regarding eSim and Physical sims. We travel alot and hence we actually use this functionality.
Is it possible to have 2 eSIMs and 1 physical SIM card simultaneously?

I understand only two SIMs can be active at once, but, for example, can I have 2 eSIMs loaded into the phone, along with one physical sim, and switch between the three sims easily?
(if anyone's wondering, it's to maintain two SIMs (personal + work) + an extra data travel SIM)

MAXIS SCAM ALERT. SMS short code subscription.

Carrier: Maxis

Unexpected message from 28832:
"RM3. You have subscribed to JukeNow. RM3/wk (Incl. 0% GST). Get new weekly video updates. Enjoy!"

I have a few questions:

1) How can clicking on a link subscribe for a mobile device? There was never any opt-in via a SMS to a short code (five digit number).

2) Can clicking on a link in an ad subscribe to a service?

3) A big company like Maxis does things like this?
According to SKMM, the short code starting with 2 should be from the service provider.
https://www.skmm.gov.my/sectors/celco/faqs/...ext-short-codes

JukeNow is a sub brand of DailyTV, which is a Maxis service.

Regards,
Ezra

Micro / SFF Desktops

Hello everyone! It's been over two years since I last logged in to LYN!
Good to be back.

Was shopping around for a media center PC for the lounge.
To my surprise, I cant seem to find a SFF PC new...in Subang (AEON / Parade) and Sunway Pyramid.
Desktops have gone out of style. And SFF desktops more so.

The closest I got were some second hand office SFF PC's... cheap, but they have probably been turned on 24/7 for a few years...and arent Win 10.

Im looking for something like an Intel NUC or Asus Revo RN66. Mac mini sized device.

It's for me folks, and I would like to future proof it for them a little bit.

Requirements are:

1) SSD
2) 8GB Ram
3) 7th Gen Core. (i3 minimum)
4) Win 10 Original.

Price isnt too much of a concern.

Any ideas? Has anyone seen a dealer of small PC's in the Subang area?

Hi guys.

Im having issues with Firefox and IE playing videos on Youtube and Netflix.

It insta-crashes the moment i click to play a youtube or netflix video.

Initially i thought it was a plugin issue, but after reinstalling Firefox, Silverlight and Adobe Flash, the problem persists.

The only thing i think may have caused the error were the windows updates from the day prior to the errors starting.

Oddly, Youtube and Netflix continue to work on Chrome, suggesting it's not a hardware issue.

[attachmentid=4463858]

Hi guys,

I just purchased a 2tb portable western digital hard drive.

Has anyone noticed any vibration with their WD portable hard drives?

It's silent, but there is a noticeable amount of vibration.

My other portable HDDs (Seagate and HItachi) have been vibrationless.

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=640

Honda CVT after Replacing Battery

Honda CVT's are known to have problems when the battery is disconnected as the CVT start clutch (used between 0 and 10km/h) uses hydraulics that need calibration to ensure it is not partially engaged during normal driving.

Does anyone have experience with resetting the Start Clutch after replacing the battery?

http://www.hondafitjazz.com/manual/A00/HTM...6881BBAT00.HTML
From the link, there are two ways to do this:
1) From a standstill (Requires special equipment)

2) While driving.

Below is the second way:

Calibration Procedure with Driving the Vehicle
1.	Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).

2.	Start the engine under no-load conditions, then turn the headlights on.

3.	Start off in [D] position, and drive the vehicle until vehicle speed reaches 60 km/h (37 mph), then decelerate the vehicle in more than 5 seconds without pressing the brake pedal to reach completion.

4.	Test-drive the vehicle to verify that a problem does not occur on the start clutch control system.

Is the above a reliable procedure? Any techies in the know?

Cheers,
Ezra
