Paid booking fee to illegal property agent

I went to see an apartment for rent a couple of days ago. Before I placed the booking fee, I asked to see his tag but he said his company not yet issued it. But he showed me a cert that says he attend LPPEH course - a registered agent I dealt with in the past showed me both tag and cert, so I thought the cert must be legit so I placed the booking fee.

But later as we discussed terms for the tenancy agreement, I found his behaviour somewhat fishy and unprofesional. So I did a search on his firm's name and registration number but nothing turned up. I did a search on his name and the REN number he put in his ads - again, nothing turned up!

Should I play safe and abort the deal even though that means losing the booking fee? I could threaten to report both to the police and LPPEH, but there's no guarantee I'll get my money back.

Proceeding with the deal seems risky but lots of people have probably used illegal brokers without running into trouble.

What do you guys think?

* The agents from that 'property management firm' posted a lots of ads in the various property websites. But I can't name them at least until I'm 100% sure they are illegal.

Where do Korean and Japanese hang out?

Hi all,

Is there any places in Klang Valley where young Korean and Japanese ladies (age 18-28) hang out? Or any websites or facebook pages/groups where they gather?

I am an event planner and I have a client who wants only Korean and Japanese models for an exclusive product launch event.

I'll appreciate any pointers. Thanks.

Dear all,

May I know how long does it take to register my car (for Selangor plate number, no "special requests" for specific numbers)?

I paid my downpayment on March 15.

The salesman confirmed with me that I prefer a Selangor plate to a KL plate and that he'll arrange with a runner on March 26.

Up to now, he still has not informed me whether the car is registered.

Since this is the first time buying a car, I'm not sure if the salesman is slow or what Should I be chasing him furiously?

My questions:
1. Once the car is registered, what other steps/documents (insurance?) need to be taken/prepared before I can pick up my car?

2. If the car is registered on Friday morning, can I pick up the car on Saturday morning? I need the car for an outstaion trip on Saturday.

Thank you very much.

Hi all, I just bought my first washing machine. Hope you guys can help me with a noob question.

The washing machine is connected to tap where it gets water from - is it ok to leave the tap permanently on, even when I'm not using the washing machine? Will I incur water charges by doing so?

Hope you guys can help me with a noob question.

The washing machine is connected to tap where it gets water from - is it ok to leave the tap permanently on, even when I'm not using the washing machine? Will I incur water charges by doing so?

The reason is the tap is located in a very hard to reach place and in fact it's easier to turn off the water supply than to turn off the tap.

How to turn off GPRS?

Dear all,

I'm a total phone noob shopping for a new mobile phone.

On my shortlist is Nokia C3 and Nokia X2-01, mainly because of the QWERTY keyboard and overall good reviews.

However, I read that both phones, but especially Nokia C3, have the problem of GPRS automatically getting activated whenever the phone is switched on, resulting in big phone bills.

For example:
http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Cse...-on/td-p/738864

I don't want to suffer this problem
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...7299&sec=nation

My questions:
1. Is there any way to permanently turn off the GPRS on Nokia C3 and Nokia X2-01? Kindly guide me step by step. I don't need internet - the phone is for calls and SMS only.

2. If I don't want GPRS/internet eating up my prepaid credit, should I get X2-01 instead of C3?

I'm using Hotlink prepaid.

Please help. Thanks.

Bf is a hardcore gambler

My best friend's boyfriend is a compulsive gambler. Every month he blows 15-20% of his meagre salary on betting. And he has no ambition, spending his days working in a cyber cafe.

When I tried to advise him to quit, he became very defensive and insisted that he is "making money" from his bets. He boasted that he had won three- and four figure-amount several times (as if that amount is very big ) and those who don't gamble are losers. He even said he "prayed" to win.

That's when I realised his gambling problem is very serious.

What should I do? My friend can't seem to see the defects in the bf's personality and he is persuasive. Should I let them be?

Double parked car 'touched' by other car

Dear all,

Let's say my friend double-parked on the left side of a road. There's parking lots on both sides of the road.

A car (let's call him Driver X) coming out from a parking lot on the right side "touched" my friend's car.

I don't think there's any visible damage, Driver X's car bumper just lightly touched my friend's car.

My questions are:
1. who is right and who is wrong is this 'accident'? Is my friend automatically considered wrong for double-parking?
2. if Driver X is wrong and my friend is right, can my friend claim $ (whether from insurance or Driver X) since there's no significant damage? Is there any case against Driver X?

I told my friend to forget about it but he is very proud of his car

Hi all,

Starting my own personal financial services company is a long term ambition of mine. I'm not ready yet but would like to open this thread for people with similiar interest.

Some questions:

1. What are the the required licenses to start such a company?

2. Must the owner or one of the partners have a CFA or a similiar qualification?

3. How do you gain access to the financial products that you want to sell?

Hi all,

I'll be flying from Subang airport to Penang next month. As this is the first time taking a plane, I've a few noob questions

Can the airport scanner damage my electrical items such as door access cards, watch and handphone (if I leave it my bag) ?

If I carry the handphone in my pocket, it'll set off the metal detector, right? So should I hand the handphone to the security guard first? Or is there a box provided where I can put my handphone?

Please advice Thanks

Sales agent messed up my PC specs

I recently ordered a PC online from a "computer maker famous for selling its products online" *

So I customised the system specifications, send my order and received the "order acknowledgement".

My assigned sales agent called me to confirm the order and payment. She then send me the "confirmation order".

I was furious when I found not one but several mistakes in the "confirmation order", including two mistakes (one good and one bad" in the system specifications.

- "Good Mistake" favoured me. She gave me better specs that what I ordered. Exp 3GB memory instead of the 2GB I ordered**

- "Bad Mistake". Exp. she gave 160GB harddrive when I ordered 500GB**

1. Should I be honest and tell her to fix both the "good mistake" and "bad mistake".
Or should I "punish" her for giving me headache and wasting my time over a very simple order by telling her about the "bad mistake" but keeping quiet about the "good mistake"?

2. What happens if the company founds out about the "Good Mistake". Will it charge me extra or punish the sales agent (who IMHO deserved to be punished for screwing up)?

* for legal reasons I won't name the PC maker. But I'm sure almost everyone can guess which company I'm refering to.
** examples only to protect my privacy
