I'm having problem while installing Windows 7 HP 64bit edition.

I'll be building my first computer over the next few weeks.

Here's some quick questions, please help me out here:

1.) Brought the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 , how should I apply the thermal paste?
I'd seen a lot of techniques on the web, which is the best? and How much thermal paste should I apply onto the CPU?

2.) New Hard Disk. Does it need to be format before installing Windows?

3.) First boot, do I need to adjust any settings in the BIOS?

4.) On the GPU, it says one 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended. So, that means it's neccessary to connect the PSU 6-pin PCI-E to the GPU right?

Connected HDMI cable from Laptop to LCD TV, but there is no audio?

Desktop problem

I had a pretty old desktop (Intel Pentium 4), Power Supply Unit just died off weeks ago. Had it changed, and working fine.

But, recently, it started to restart itself.

Initially a slight knock or bump on the desktop, the desktop will restart by itself.
So, I opened it up and make sure all the cables, components are seated correctly.

It seems fine afterward, but as soon as I ran applications, say games on it. It restarted by itself after sometime.

Anyone knows what's causing it to restart. dying components? overheating?

After one random restart (while my brother was playing a game), we couldn't log on to Windows anymore.

The problem:

The Windows XP loading screen seems to be messed up (Vertical lines on the logo image), & I can see horizontal lines flickering.

After finished loading, normally it goes through the log on screen where you select an user & key in the password.

But it didn't show, instead the monitor went into sleep mode.

I went into Safe Mode / VGA Mode & had the nvidia display drivers uninstalled.

After reboot, I was able to come to the log on screen & log into Windows.

I tried to reinstall the drivers but after the reboot, the problem occurred again.

Any ideas what causing this to happen?

It happened since this morning, when I'm surfing online on my notebook, I'll get like disconnections in every 0.15 sec ++ interval ...

(the 2 desktops of mine connected via cable had not disconnected from it, only my notebook)

I have to like reset the whole wireless modem settings to get it working fine again.

I thought it's fixed after the reset, it was working fine until the next laptop reboot, the problem occurred again.

I had to reset the modem again to get it working.

It's getting very annoying , do you guys know what causes this problem?

p/s: It's nothing to do with Streamyx, I'm not with them, and I had have no disconnections ever from my connection.
This problem occurred a few months back, it was solved by just one reboot of the wireless modem.

My result is released today, and I failed 2/3 programming (JAVA & C) units for the last semester.

I just barely passed JAVA in my first semester.

I'm feeling a bit tensed now, what can I do?

If I'm not doing well in programming, then CS is not suitable for me? (go for IT ? , Networking ?)

or should I strike harder to work better in this units next semester.

I encountered this problem in my old desktop today and remembered some other members having the same problem,

So I'm thinking it might be useful to put up the solution here.

Here's the solution:

If your CD-ROM drive is not visible in My Computer, you may see the following error message displayed with the CD or DVD drive item in your Device Manager. (Steps to open Device Manager are discussed later in the article.)

Using Device Manager

To fix this error, first try to update the driver from the Device Manager. To open Device Manager, right-click My Computer on your Desktop, and then on the Hardware tab, select the Device Manager button.

Notebook Battery Meter

My notebook (DELL Inspiron 1525, 3 weeks old) battery meter is showing unstable time remaining reading,

e.g.: @93% (3:30 hrs remaining) then suddenly drops to 1:XX ~2:XX hrs remaining etc ...
(mostly happens if I open up applications, programs etc.)

if I let it idle, the battery meter somehow shows longer time remaining.

I'm curious if this is normal?
