8-pin to 4-pin CPU Power Connector Issue

i bought this mobo Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L to couple with E8400
today i received Silverstone Strider ST56F (560W) psu which i bought from a forumer here

before this i use SilverStone Strider ST400 (400W)
which it has 4-pin CPU Power Connector

i didn't find the 4-pin CPU Power Connector on Strider ST56F
instead i found 8-pin and i tried to push it thru my mobo power connector
the mobo n pc are running fine now but will it effect my pc

recently i bought this hdd
Western Digital 500gb Sata to replace my old school WD 40gb Pata
i did everything as usual
format my hdd and partition it into 3 part

now i wonder what i did wrong as i see my sata hdd is shown as USB drive
for information i am running this hdd only
my pata hdd i put in my cupboard

here is my system

AMD 64 Socket 939 3200+
2gb ddr400 ram
7800gt extreme pcie
lg dvd writer
st56f psu

eveything for my small pc
on win xp sp2

need help for my fellow teachers here in Kapit Sarawak
his lappy produce lines as u can see in attachment

Dell 510M Inspiron Laptop
used for 2 years already

he is asking
1) what is the problem.... either the VGA cable is faulty or the screen gonna kaput

2) if it is repairable, how much it will cost him? he is willing to send for repair is budget within his wallet size

we r unlucky to be here as not much IT technician and pc shop available in Kapit
the only choice is either going to Sibu..... 3 hours on boat
or straight go to Saberkas Kuching.... worst come to worst go to LYP

i told him to dump the laptop into Sg Rajang... kekekeke
