Overheating Laptop

Hi Sifu's,

Need some advice with regards to an issue that i am encountering on my laptop. Recently my laptop HDD died on me which i was forced to replace it. One of the other items which i replaced in this series was also the power adapter, of which i bought one of the third party brand with the equivalent power output.

Putting that aside, now that i have reassemble all the items, i realize that the machine is overheating. I have installed some monitoring tool for both the GPU and CPU and i notice the temperature rising to what i considered abnormal. I can feel abnormal heat from the surface of the laptop and the monitoring tools reading increased to approx 80* Celcius for GPU and 70 ish for CPU. At first i thought it was only my GPU hence i disabled the GT555M and resort to the Intel 3000 Graphic instead but this did not change anything with regards to the temp for the CPU.

I summarize that in overall the cooling system on the laptop must be failing. Any tips on how i should rectify this? When powered on i can hear the fan running.

I am a lil reluctant to send it directly to a shop with the fear of being "man-slaugthed" for the cost hence would appreciate any advice provided. If there are reliable repair shops that forummers can recommend i wouldn't mind considering it as well. Just wanna keep repair cost to a minimum

FYI i'm runningg the i5 version of Asus N45sf.

Thanks in advance for all the sifu's advice.

Malaysian working in Singapore as IT Support

Hey Guys,

As i'm not too familiar with the Singapore Job Market, would appreciate if there is anyone within the forum which has experience or is currently working in Singapore to share their thoughts with the following queries ;

1) What would be the average expected Salary for the subject posted positions?
a) IT Support - involving mainly client desktop support + monthly server maintenance
b) Assistant Team Lead IT Support - managing 3-4 employees

2) How much would one need to earn to be able to live comfortably(without struggling) in Singapore? I'm sure a lot will say it depends on lifestyle. Just for a rough estimation, i don't need fancy restaurant food. I can live by street food or hawker centre. I don't need to live extravagantly. In terms of accomodation, a rent single room lot/apartment would be more than sufficient. Basic necessities such as Electricity/water & Internet are needed of course.

Appreciate the guidance from fellow Forum-mates.

Cheers...

[WTA] Upgrading PC for Design Works & Gaming

Hey All,

Need some sifu's advise on my new project to upgrade my existing desktop PC. Its quite old now, approx 4years+

Its basically running on a Core 2 Duo Proc, and a HD5000+ series graphic.

Based on what i've analysed, the only parts that i can retain is, the Casing, Hard-disk, the CD ROMs . other than that, seems like everything else needs to go. At this point of time, i've only manage to sum up the below ;

Item Type Model Price(RM) Remarks
Processor i7-4770 RM965.00 3.4Ghz 8MB
MOBO RM350.00 Estimation Cost (should i push this budget higher? Any recommendation for a good & affordable Motherboard?)

RAM	Kingston Value Ram RM232.00 8GB DDR3

PSU	Corsair CS650M RM395.00 80+Gold 5 Years Modular

GPU	Unsure RM600.00 Estimated budget(any suggestion?) Based on this budget the only option that i saw was R7 260X or the GEForce 650

Appreciate all the advise given and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Need Help with Weird Wireless Adapter

Hi All,

My notebook (Asus N45-SF) recently had a weird problem whereby the Wireless adapter just fail to function. Fail in a sense that when i boot up the system (Windows 7 x64) i am able to see that the its browsing for a network(from the icon on the systray) , however after a while the icon turns to *Not Connected*. When i look into the Device Manager, it shows that there is a Ethernet Controller with no Drivers installed. Upon looking into the Network Adapter list in Device Manager the Wireless adapter is no longer there.

Thus i thought it was a driver corruption, which i then proceed to attempt to reinstall the driver. However that did not resolved the issue. I further tried to reinstall the *Wireless Console 3*(application by Asus which suppossingly controls the switch for Wireless Network. And that proof to not work.

My last resort was to reinstall the Operating System and reinstall all the drivers from scratch, and even that didn't seem to work out for me. Am i missing something or has system nowadays gotten more complicated?

Additional info, i've ensure that the Power Management utility in my notebook has the WIreless Adapter Enabled at all time with Maximum Performance.

Appreciate all the kind sifu's help or advise =/ I'm STUCK!

Is it time to resign?

Hi All,

Just wanted some advise on work related issue. I've been with a MNC company X for about 3 years in the IT Dept. Throughout the 3 years spend here , i've managed to make quite good progression, earning me almost double of what i had when i first joined the company. Things were great at first , until the changes came.

Since the end of 2010, there has been big changes in the company involving top management and structures and etc etc, and as one of the employee's i was also affected. My direct reporting manager has also changed for more than 6-8 times in this short 1 year period. In this period i was also promoted to a Manager Level from exec, however i wasn't provided the man power to assists me so i was stucked with my previous tasks of supporting operation needs despite requesting for Man Power several times already.

Recently i was given a *Performance Improvement Plan* which comes bundled with a warning letter stating my lack of commitment to the job. In the plan was stated a few key points which in my opinion i've been doing very well and i've also acquired acknowledgement from the counterparts but yet i was issued such statement. Ever since then, even the slightest of item which despite me arranging alternative solution(probably not the best solution because the best would literally mean for me to be presence but yet sometimes the events just clashed and i have had prior appointments made), the people will make a big issue out of it.

I've gone to the extend of staying a couple of nights within the office vicinity to ensure issues was solved when there was something major happening , and the hours spend at work was sufficient for 2 weeks within 4 days.

All that being said, i would like to ask is it really time to go because it is really tiring for me to do all this (i deemed) political battle when you are already tied up with tasks. This brings unnecessary stress and burden to me.

My personal opinion is that it is really time to leave and for me to have a change of environment and all this hassle is no longer worth the stress. I have sleepless/restless nights at times due to this and i believe my social life was also disrupted since i took up this job 3 years ago, but with all the effort put into it, now i'm judged as not doing my job. In other words, unappreciated.

Opinions are welcome & much appreciated.

Hi Guys,

I came across this strange issue with my new GPU ATI Sapphire Radeon HD5830 which i've just installed in my system today.

Initially everything was working fine , but upon competing the installation of the driver and run a reboot, my display during boot up suddenly changed instead of Black background to something which is Greenish in colour. I've tried updating the Driver by downloading the latest driver from ATI's website , however the colour still remains.\

Anyone ever faced similar issue with their GPUs?

Please advise.

Updated with Pictures :
Just wondering, has any of you masters and sifu's in here ever has this problem;

Problem : Whenever i attach my thumbdrive into my USB port for the first time (after reboot), it works perfectly fine. But then if i were to remove it(safely removed) and later when i want to replug my thumbdrive, it no longer detects it. And usually to solve this problem all i did was just restart the computer, then the USB port will be able to detect my thumbdrive. Any idea what causes this?

Unable To Install Printer

Problem faced : It first started when the PC's @ my work place suddenly wasn't able to print. It states error of Printer Spooler not working. Thus i thought that i should check on whether the Print Spooler is functioning or not.(Refering to services.msc Print Spooler has Started and its set to Start Automatically.) So i tried to reinstall the Printer Driver instead. When i run thru the Printer Installer Wizard it gets to the end and gives the error "Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed."Reinstalling the entire Operating System solves the problem, but that would be kind of a hassle as its time consuming. And i'm confident that the Printer is not faulty as other colleagues connected through the network printer can print fine.Is there anyone who faced this problem before?

For your informations

PC Model : Variety
Operating System : Windows XP
Printer Model : Variety
Printer Driver Type : PCL6

*Note : Sorry for the two new topics created but i think i shud create individual threads for Different Problems*

And i can't even do anything. When it goes into standby mode, i can reactivate it , but moments later it goes back into standby mode again(the time frame is less than 10 seconds). Is it some hardware issue or O/S issue? Are there any known viruses/bugs that might cause this problem? For your information the PC is an old PC Acer Veriton 5600GT.

Full HD setup

I recently just bought a LCD monitor from Dell S2409W which according to the specs sheet supports Full HD. I tried attaching it to my Palit Sonic HD4850 using a HDMI cable(super expensive , cost me RM200+) and i can't seem to get the display to work properly.Below are a few problems that i faced

1) screen detected signal from the HDMI connection and then the monitor displays this message
" The current Input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 1920x1080@60hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specification "

2) I manage to get a display on lower reso(around 13xx iirc) but when i increase the reso again, it'll appear the message above (1)

Got really frustrated with it. Does anyone have any clues or suggestions i can work on ?Things i already did/tried

1)Updated my GPU driver and Catalyst
2)Setting up using the Force button in Catalyst to put it to 1080p
3)Reboot computer after attaching the monitor to the pc using the HDMI cable.

I'm really out of ideas.

Thanks for viewing and trying to help

Thanks

My question is this ,

Is it possible to connect a Switch to a Router and yet the switch is able to obtain the DHCP features as the router?Or do i need to configure the Client PC's attached to the Switch to have its Gateway set as the Router's IP?Is there a way of doing this without having to configure the Client PC's?What i'm refering to is a DHCP feature, without having to install a DHCP server.

Thanks.

I was wondering if anyone here ever faced the problem of not able to open "for example D:" from My Computer normally? At first, whenever you open it,it'll launch in another window(note that folder settings have been set to default). Then Kasperky detected some sort of virus called Kavo.exe and db.cmd(this one i can't really remember). Now whenever i double click on any of my partition from My Computer it will pop up the Open With menu.Any idea how to go around this problem?

Thanks for all your help
