Civil or Mechanical? Passion vs Advice?

So, i decided to take engineering at Nottingham Malaysia Campus But as soon as i told my parents about it. They asked me to go for Civil. From what my parents heard from my uncle, he said that Civil engineers have hgih salary+foreign citizenship+high vacancies for fresh graduates which i dont believe? But my passion is on mechanical and i actually applied it. My parents then nagged me everyday about changing my application to civil since they heard [from the same person ]that mechanical has less vacancies and very low salary . So im basically stuck. Anyone?

My reason of choosing mechanical: I disassemble machines [from toys to appliances] to see how they work. Or even if i broke them apart i will try to fix them and understand how they work. Plus im interested in mechanical stuffs such as gear ratios etc etc. Just totally not to buildings

Help!
