Overworking arms

Okay i'm gonna touch on a very subjective matter which is how many workouts (and sets per workout) is good enough for working out the arms.

I train my biceps and triceps on the same day and I do 3 workouts with 3 sets each. I've found this to be the best way for me to train my arms because anything more that I do turns out to be overtraining and doesn't get the job done as well.

But what about you guys? Do you place your biceps/triceps workouts after your chest/tricep/back? Or do you pair them together on a specific day and deal with minimum sets and workouts?

I'm just looking to switch around and experiment.

Some things that are right in front of you

Ever notice how some things are just there in front of your eyes, but for some weird reason you're so oblivious to it's presence.

Today I had an epiphany.

The government isn't cracking down hard on mat rempits because UMNO is so desperate in gathering votes that if they start catching these rempits, it'll be like shooting themselves in the foot for the next general elections.
And it may be apparent to the rest of the world, but it just hit me. It's like "On one hand, UMNO needs votes. On the other hand, Mat Rempits are a big threat but UMNO isnt doing something about it... OH!!!"

Then a lil over a month ago, I figured out why weed is illegal in western countries (our country is just following British law in that).
It's because weed is a gateway drug. In the sense that once you get high on weed, you're going to want to try getting high on harder drugs like smack, speed and ice. Freaking hell man. Weed = gateway drug. Weed = illegal. OH.
Once again, it may be apparent to everyone else, but it took me some time to put 2 and 2 together.

I didn't open this thread to be called a slowpoke by the self-proclaimed fastpokes out there (you know who you are), but instead to ask this-

Have you ever been in that situation before?
When you knew two separate facts, but only JUST realized that they were connected.

Freakin hell.

TheBassist's New Workout Plan (Updated 24th July)

Well, hello children.

After much hard work on my previous bodybuilding program, I thought that it was time for a change in routine. Y'know after going to the gym starts becoming more of a chore than anything else, you cant see that much change anyway because of the energy level.

I came up with this new routine after training with various bodybuilders, most namely Darklight79 of LYN. So in a way, I took the best advice I've received from them, adapted it into a routine and I've seen results.

Like every other bodybuilder, my target is to bulk and lean, then bulk again and lean again. The process goes on until I'm satisfied with what I've done. I don't believe in goals, but I believe in benchmarks.
Ultimately my first benchmark was to be able to have a gym body up to standards with the other people who worked out at the gym.
After I got to that, my second benchmark was to look like how Brad Pitt did in Fight Club or Christian Bale in American Psycho.
After surpassing that, my third benchmark is to probably get bigger and leaner, then see what happens. I'll probably aim to look like a Spartan.

PM me if you want to see progress pictures dating back from March 08 to July 09.

p.s. Yes, I still work out at Celebrity One Utama so if you're still feeling ballsy, shout out my LYN name and I'll find you if I'm there.

Day 1: Chest, Abs & Biceps

Chest:
Incline Bench Press [5 sets] [11 reps] [55kg, 50kg, 45kg, 40kg, 40kg]
Flat Bench Press [5 sets] [11 reps] [constant 35kg, last set 25kg]
Decline Bench Press [4 sets] [11 reps] [30kg to 25kg]
Cable Flyes [6 sets] [11 reps] [drops from 30kg]

Biceps:
Barbell Superset [4 sets] [5 reps 35kg, 5 reps 20kg, 5 reps 15kg back to back]
Dumbbell Superset [1 set] [10 reps 22kg, 3 reps 20kg, 3 reps 10kg back to back]

Abs 3-workout-superset [3-4 sets]:
Exercise Ball Crunches [15 reps]
Oblique Crunches [15 reps for each side]
Decline Bench Crunches with added weight [15 reps]

Day 2: Shoulders & Abs

Shoulders:
Dumbbell Shoulder Press [6 sets] [11 reps] [55kg, 50kg, 45kg, 40kg, 35kg, 35kg]
Smith Machine Military Presses Superset [3 sets]: Front [10 reps] [30kg, 25kg, 20kg], Back [10 reps] [25 kg, 20kg, 20kg]
Superset 2 [3 sets]: Reverse Flyes [10 reps] [50kg, 45kg, 40 kg], Standing Barbell Raises [10 reps] [constant 15kg]

Abs 3-workout-superset [3-4 sets]:
Exercise Ball Crunches [15 reps]
Oblique Crunches [15 reps for each side]
Decline Bench Crunches with added weight [15 reps]

Day 3: Back

Back:
Chin Ups [3 sets] [8-11 reps]
Lat Pull Downs [3 sets] [11 reps] [57kg, 47kg, 40kg]
V-Handle Lat Pull Downs [3 sets] [11 reps] [40kg, 40kg, 33kg]
V-Handle Cable Rows [4 sets] [11 reps] [28kg, 23kg, 20kg, 20kg]
Bent Over Barbell Rows [3 sets] [11 reps] [45kg, 40kg, 40kg]
Deadlifts [3 sets] [11 reps] [constant 50kg]

Day 4: 20-Minute Cardio

Day 5: Biceps, Triceps & Abs

Biceps:
Barbell 21-Curl [3 sets] [15 kg, 17.5kg, 20kg]
Barbell Superset [4 sets] [5 reps 35kg, 5 reps 20kg, 5 reps 15kg back to back]
Dumbbell Superset [1 set] [10 reps 22kg, 3 reps 20kg, 3 reps 10kg back to back]

Triceps:
Close-Grip Bench Press [3 sets] [11 reps] [40kg, 30kg, 30kg]
Dips [3 sets] [15 reps]
Skullcrushers [3 sets] [11 reps] [constant 20kg]
Superset [3 sets]- Overhead Rope Extensions [10 reps] [17.5kg, 17.5kg, 15kg], Rope Pushdown [10 reps] [20kg, 17.5kg, 15kg]

Abs 3-workout-superset [3-4 sets]:
Exercise Ball Crunches [15 reps]
Oblique Crunches [15 reps for each side]
Decline Bench Crunches with added weight [15 reps]

Day 6: Legs

Quadriceps:
Smith-Machine Squats [6 sets] [11 reps] [40kg to 30kg]
Leg Presses [3 sets] [11 reps] [40kg to 30kg]
Leg Extensions [2 sets] [11 reps] [constant 25kg]

Hamstrings:
Romanian Deadlift [4 sets] [11 reps] [constant 40 kg]
Lying Leg Curls [4 sets] [11 reps] [constant 30kg]
Seated Leg Curl [3 sets] [11 reps] [constant 30 kg]

Day 7: 20-Minute Cardio

If you're interested in knowing my older workout plan, click the spoiler.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So here I am again writing my bodybuilding journal.

The last time I wrote one, everybody lambasted me for creating my own workout plan in my journal and saying it will never work. Needless to say that I am still proud with the results. I've managed to lean up and get a body that is considered good enough for anyone's standards. However, the biggest set back with the last journal was that it made me reach my plateau pretty fast, so I had to adopt a more professional and time eating workout.

So this is a 7 day plan that slots nicely into the week. If anybody wants to come and train with me (and my gym partner), you're more than welcome to. Just come to Celebrity Fitness in One Utama and scream out "THEBASSIST" and I'll come and find you.

For the diet plan (which I don't follow) and the old work out plan, click here.

P.S. I don't post my picture on forums so save yourself from asking me to post it up here. I won't.

Day 1: Chest & Abs

Chest:
Incline Bench Press [5-7 sets] [10-15 reps] [40kg, 35kg, 35kg 30kg, 25kg, 25kg, 20kg]
Flat Bench Press [3-4 sets] [15 reps for all] [constant 30kg]
Butterfly (Pectorial Flyes) [3-4 sets] [10 reps for all] [constant 45kg]
Pushup Machine [3 sets] [10 reps for all] [constant 30kg]

Abs 5-workout-superset (2-4 sets):
Rope Crunches [35kg, 40kg, 42kg, 44kg] [15 reps for all]
Hanging leg lifts [10 reps for all]
Flat bench leg pull-in [15 reps]
Exercise Ball Crunch [15 reps]
Oblique Crunches [15 reps for each side]

18-25 minutes Cardio (150-250 calories)

Day 2: Shoulders & It's been nearly a month now and I've now increased my workout for my legs (I've finally seen the light and realized how squats can benefit me), my chest and my shoulders. However, I can't seem to curl like before and the weights for that has certainly decreased. Anyway, I should be using this exact same plan for the next 3 months or until I'm satisfied with my results

Approaching girls in malls, mamaks and bars

Since my last thread on The Friend Zone I've gotten dozens of PMs asking me about how to avoid falling into the Friend Zone, how to build attraction and pretty much how to approach the female species in general.

So I'm going to redirect all those PMs here because it's just not easy to reply to everyone's PM, as much as I want to help.

Okay so now for the guys of Kopitiam, today's lesson is going to be on approaching girls/women.

But before I say anything, let me just disprove of what the average joe will be thinking when the word "approaching" comes to mind.
Many people think that they need to be good looking to be able to approach a girl without getting shot down. But I've said it time and time again, the ugliest fat man can get a girlfriend pretty enough to grace the covers of any fashion or men's magazine as long as he has the confidence (and the right words to say)
Also many people (especially the conservative, religious and the scared people) think that approaching total strangers doesn't work for everyone. So if I were to give an example where you and your friends are sitting at Laundry Bar, and on the table not too far from you there are a couple of absolutely hot women. Are you going to just sit there and admire the view? What if I said that it was possible to end up dating one of them?

The thing guys (especially Kopitiam guys who sit at the screen all day admiring Nong Poy) have to realize is that women have the same wants and urges as men (ask any female friends and they'd say the same thing). It's just that women aren't fully attracted to physical appearances the way men are attracted to women, so you won't catch many women staring at guys (except for the occasional pretty boy). Also women know that guys want them (Kopitiamers know what I'm talking about- sometimes someone posts the pic of an ugly chick on the cute girls thread claiming she's pretty and everybody else starts screaming "DO NOT WANT! DO NOT WANT!") so they know they are in total control when talking to a guy, and having said that play hard to get to see how that guy would compare to the other hundreds of guys that have hit on them.

Okay so now that's out of the way, one does not simply walk in to <s>Mordor</s> a shopping mall and ask a pretty girl for her number. Nobody does that. Even if someone like Brad Pitt did that, the girl will change her perception on him forever. But i digress.

There are certain guidelines a guy has to abide to in order to get a girl's number. And not only that, have her looking forward to his call.
And this applies to ALL guys- however ugly, fat or short you may be.

The first step in approaching is to have an opening line that will not put her on the defensive. And yes, this means never to use a pickup line on a girl. There are a few types of opening lines to be used- the situational opener, the sincere opener and the opinionated opener (there are a few more but I can't quite remember them right now).

Anyway the situational opener uses the situation as a way to open conversation.
e.g. 1 If there was a fight that just broke out and she saw it, "Hey but did you catch what happened? I love these kinda dramas. I've no time for TV so Starbucks is the next best thing for me."
e.g. 2 If some guy tried hitting on her but failed, "Can you believe the cheesiest lines guys come up with nowadays? Even if a girl used that on me, I'd say no too"
e.g. 3 if shes wearing a pretty dress, "Sorry I can't help but notice you're wearing a really nice dress. May i ask where you got it? My best friend's birthday is coming up and I've absolutely no clue what to get her."

This is my personal favorite because if at any time you get shot down, you can just call her unfriendly and walk off. Because let's face it, at no point did you come off as a creep who was trying to hit on her.

Really confident people use the sincere opener, which can be the most nerve wrecking, but is also the easiest ones to use. They can be as simple as a, "Hi, I'm Johnson and I'm going to be really honest, but I think you're pretty cute. Would it be alright if you bought me a drink?"

It can be as easy as that. And yes, she will talk to you if you pull it off with perfect confidence.

One rule though is never use the words hot, sexy, fappable or anything that would imply that you want to sleep with her.
Also, never offer to buy a girl a drink because this will automatically trigger her defensive system.

Once again, if she says no, she'll forgive you for being sincere and confident at the same time. But ONLY if you've pulled this off with perfect confidence. As I said, really confident people use this.

Lastly, the opinionated opener.

This is done by asking a girl a neutral question that doesn't require the mind to think.
"Hi I'm doing a quick survey. Just answer as quick as you can. Orange juice or apple juice?"
"Hey, have I met you before? Sorry, you just seem really familiar. I think I've seen you at a party before."
"Hi. Do you know where the science non-fiction section is? Sorry, you just look like the type that reads that kinda thing"

As you can see, those are all very no brainer captain obvious questions, but they get the girl to let her guard down and they also open the door for a follow up.

But as I don't want this thread to be tl;dr thing, I'm afraid I'll have to stop here.

Next time around, I'll talk about how to follow up to an approach.

Now please stop PMing me, and ask questions here. If you're shy, just wait for my next thread on following up.

P.S. I posted this thread in Kopitiam to cater to the guys of Kopitiam. I wouldn't have written all this if I were to cater to the people in Cupid's Corner.
P.P.S. Once again, I'm not trying to act like a know it all. This thread is created for the sole purpose of changing the mindset of the Kopitiam guy that hot women are a luxury. Oh and also I'm trying to create some space for myself by directing all the PM-ing people here.
P.P.P.S. All the opening lines have been used by myself countless times, so I'd know that they have a very low failure rate. And no I'm not good looking, just in case anyone might suggest that.

So in the mean time, go out there and test it out.

Sun lotion that stops you from getting tanned.

Most sun block lotions prevent the sun from burning you (sun burn = skin becomes red), but most of them just make your skin become brown.

I'm just wondering if there is such a thing as a sun block lotion that blocks the sun altogether 100% (or at least 85%).

Reason I'm asking is I'm going to the beach soon (and it's the first time in a freaking long time), and I don't know if anybody already knows this, but color tattoos (which I have quite a few of) tend to fade when they come in too much contact with the sun.

Hey guise, I've been using my friend's Metal Zone for a while now until he had to leave for the USA a week ago.
Plus, my band's gonna do a couple of gigs in 2 weeks or so and I will be needing to get my own distortion pedal.

Now, someone please tell me what the difference is between Metal Zone, Overdrive, Super Overdrive, Distortion etc.

It will be good if someone could post up all the names of all the pedals too. Cheers.

What scents compliment each other?

Yes I am a guy asking a question about perfumes and colognes.

Anyway here's the situation. My girlfriend's birthday is coming up so I was thinking of getting her a bottle of perfume (standard gift for women, since i'm never that clever with gifts anyway). And I was wondering if there was any perfume I could get her that would smell nice with another scent of men's cologne.
Maybe like for example Armani's Acqua Di Gio with Black Code, or something like that.

I collect men colognes so I wouldn't mind getting a new bottle for myself if it really compliments the perfume.
So yeah, feel free to suggest any two scents that you feel would go really well with each other.

I got a warning saying that my siggy had infinged the rules and regulations on LYN.
Tbh, I don't see anything wrong with it.

This is what it looks like:

----

----

Oh and btw, it's not to big as I've seen many many others with siggies bigger than this.

P.s. I've been using this siggy for 2-3 weeks now, so someone tell me why mine is "against the rules"

How do I get off protein shake?

I've been on Muscletech's Nitro-Tech Hardcore for a month now and I've reached the size that I originally set for myself.
Thing is I know that once I get off it, I'll lose my bulk and it'll turn to flab bla bla bla (heard it all before).

I was wondering if anybody can help me out. Tell me what I can do to maintain my body size without losing my muscles or such.

btw, I heard whey is good for maintaining size. But I know that whey would also build my body even more than this. I don't exactly want to look like a monster or anything.
So yeah, anything but whey (if possible)
