how to start?

currently i just got a title for my fyp. i am doing soccer strategy and statistic analysis. My supervisor asked me to look into data warehouse + data mining. I learnt ERD + SQL queries last year and i do not have any knowledge on data warehouse + data mining.

from wat i understand.. data warehouse's data cannot be modified and it gets data from different supplier. Now i need to get football/soccer statistic from different source.

i have 3 questions:
1) How to get data from different source(xml??)
2)can i do data mining on my data in ERD?
3)how to start data warehouse + data mining?

any comments/ inputs from you are appreciated.

size of object for inheritance class different

Admin is a Person(is-a-relationship). Person is my abstract class(base class) and admin is my derived class. Admin inherits from Person class.

i checked the sizeOf(Admin) b4 storing the object into file. The size b4 storing is 332. After storing into file, it becomes 333.

I am able to search 1st object and able to display details for that object. But i cannot display details after 1st object.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

QUOTE

admin myAdmin; //I called my derived class object

sizeof(admin); //output = 332;

fstream file("admin.txt", ios::app); //I dont create a text file in my folder, app mode will help me create the text file

file.write(reinterpret_cast<char *>(&myAdmin), sizeof(admin)); //I store my object "myAdmin" to my "admin.txt"

cout<<file.tellp; //but here show my writing/storing pointer "tellp()" is giving me the object i store in the file is 333 but suppose my "sizeof(admin)" is 332.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

if i continue to storing with this method, while i am doing the search with below this coding, I face the reading pointer is not correctly point to the object.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

int input; //this is the input for me to prompt user to input ID number to search in the file

QUOTE

cin>>input;
cin.get();

admin myAdmin;

fstream file("admin.txt", ios::in);

file.seekg((input - 1) * sizeof(admin)); //this is for me to point to the correct object because i am saving in ascending order, so my ID
//number shouldn't mix up.

file.read(reinterpret_cast<char*>(&myAdmin), sizeof(admin)); //while "input is 1" it doesn't shows the problem, but while the "input is more than 1",
//the pointer doesn't point to the correct object, so while using the object data will error.

cout<<myAdmin.getname(); //if input is 2 this will encounter problem, cannot display.

CRYSIS 2 (PS3) coming tis yeaR!

After years of hints and tech-demo teases, the Crysis series is finally headed to consoles. This morning, Electronic Arts and German developer Crytek announced the development of Crysis 2 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game will be the first console title that the notoriously PC-centric studio will develop directly for consoles, having let Ubisoft develop the console spin-offs for its groundbreaking 2004 first-person shooter Far Cry. Ubisoft bought the Far Cry IP outright in 2006. No release date was given.

All good things come to those who wait, ja?

"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Crytek CEO and President Cevat Yerli in a statement. "This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it's the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryEngine 3." In March, the CryEngine3 was shown off on the 360 and PS3 to Game Developers Conference attendees.

As part of today's announcement, EA and Crytek also announced that they were extending their strategic partnership forged in 2004. The deal came shortly after Far Cry became both a critical and commercial hit on the PC for Ubisoft, which EA still owns one fifth of. The deal is part of the EA Partners program, which lets developers pick and choose marketing, sales, and development-support services from the megapublisher. Current EA Partners and games include Harmonix (Rock Band), Valve (The Orange Box and Left 4 Dead), Grasshopper Manufacture (Unnamed PC/PS3/360/Wii project), and Epic Games (Untitled People Can Fly Project).

For more on Crysis 2, check out GameSpot's video stream and live blog of EA's E3 2009 Press Conference at 2 p.m. PDT/10 p.m. BST this afternoon, straight from the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Clips

CryEngine 3

CryEngine AT GDC 2010

CryEngine AT GDC 2010

Screenshots

Screenshots link
