PETALING JAYA: Buyers have been urged to carry out research first before buying smartphones to avoid being cheated by unscrupulous dealers.

Fomca secretary-general Muhammad Sha’ani Abdullah said there was a rise in the number of complaints by smartphones buyers who were cheated recently.

“We have received more than 200 complaints this year alone related to smartphone purchases,” he said in a telephone interview yesterday.

He said unscrupulous traders would mislead customers into believing that certain mobile phone models had the same features as others, adding: “Many mobile phones look like smartphones these days. Those who are less tech-savvy might not be able to tell the difference.”

Muhammad Sha’ani urged the people to research the phones they were planning to buy so that they knew all the features and functions.

“Don’t buy on impulse. Once you have paid, it is not so easy to get a refund unless you can prove that the seller deliberately misled you,” he said.

He said buyers also complained that they could not trace their traders again when their phones needed repairs.

“Many of the complainants could not trace the traders after buying the phones from expos or fairs,” said Muhammad Sha’ani.

“Consumers should only buy their sets from reputable dealers with proper business premises so they can be contacted,” he said.

Windows 7 Home Premier

Recently company bought a Acer desktop running Windows 7 Home Premier, can see all the network connection and share folder that running windows XP but not the server since it running using Redhat. Can see the server but can't see the share folder and when click on it will ask for security password. Any sifu here can help out? already do regedit and still not work. some advise me to add user and the server but i not familiar with Redhat.

Bought this modem on Feb'08 from 1 of the dealer at Imbi Plaza.
My problem is i lost the resit, so can i directly send to any D-link distributor to claim warranty.

I got a HP Pavilion Notebook and is warranty for 1 year but already used it almost 2 years. My question is the hard disk problem and and can i claim warranty on it. Hard disk brand is Hitachi Travelstar and it stated the year manufacture is Feb-05. Already visit the www.hitachigst.com and type in the serial number Q2DS84VB and the result i don't understand, can someone help me out...Thank.

Can WinXP set password in file sharing like what win98. Reason is wanted to share a folder at my work place to other few of colluage that can view and amend file. I did do sharing but dunno who login and deleted all the file, so now need security password for them only can access... any tip. Thank.

my office using window2000 as server and i installed ubuntu 6.0 into my terminal. I can browse the entire office wokrgroup connected and copy file from theire terminal but my problem is i cannot copy my file to them, any help please? thank
