Numpad on gaming laptops

I have noticed quite a number of "gaming" laptops coming with numeric pad (numpad).

First of all, I do wonder how many games actually need numpad.

I do know that some prefer keyboards with numpad but they are usually for non-gaming purposes. They want high-spec laptops for their work purpose. But i'd think in such case, can just have those external USB numeric pads, right? Then again, same can be argued about gamers -- just get external keyboard.

The thing is... I find keyboards with numpad end up having the numpad take up a big portion of the space... so when using the other side (non numeric pad), it feels like one ends up just using one side of the keyboard. Also, so touch pads end up being on one side of the laptop (instead of being in the middle) because of the numpad...

So, just though to start a discussion... Is this really necessary on "gaming" laptops.

P/S: i know it's not possible to really define gaming laptops... but that's not the point la...

This incident will serve to urge the importance of quality from cable manufacturers. Many manufacturers opt not to follow the USB Type-C standard, either by way of ignorance or because they’d rather cut corners to save money. This is bad, and when expensive devices start breaking because of it, it’s a problem that seriously needs addressing.

Stagefright is quickly becoming the bug that wouldn't die. First discovered in July, the vulnerability allowed attackers to target Android phones over text or MMS, exploiting a weakness in Android's multimedia preview function. Google, manufacturers and carriers scrambled to patch the bug, only to have another bug pop up two weeks later, requiring another round of patches. Now, three months after the initial disclosure, it's all happening again.

Zimperium security a new way to exploit Stagefright that isn't covered by existing patches, first reported by Motherboard. The new vulnerability works by encoding a malicious program into an audio file, delivered over mp3 or mp4. Once a user previews the file or visits a page where that file is embedded, Android's audio preview will activate the program, infecting the device. Even more troubling, the virus can also be deployed by an attacker on a public Wi-Fi network, potentially enabling a self-replicating or wormed version of Stagefright. Because some version of the preview function exists in most versions of Android, nearly every Android device is susceptible to the bug, although specific implementations vary from version to version.

That's particularly disconcerting since some of Android's mitigation strategies have proved to be not as effective against Stagefright as initially thought. Zimperium hasn't released a workable exploit for the new bug yet, so Google and its partners will have a head start in patching the bug, but it leaves Android users counting on carriers and manufacturers for yet another critical patch.

Google is currently working to fix the issue in the core Android code, and says a patch will be included in the October Monthly Security Update, provided to partners on September 10th and rolling out to Nexus phones on October 5th. Android Security has had no reports of active exploitation of the bug so far.

It's also interesting to note that OnePlus did mention before that their financial backer (BBK) is allowing them to have no profit for the first two years of operations. So, OnePlus says the phone is being sold without profit. They will make some money from accesosries like the Swap Style cases.

How do I get an invite?
The main method of getting invites will be through others. In the beginning, when not a lot of other people have the device, you'll be able to get invites through contest and raffles. We have planned ways so our early fans, as well as people who weren't here from the beginning will be able to obtain invites.

When do the next batch of invites roll out?
The first real batch of invites roll out late May, and will be of the 64GB Sandstone Black version. Any invites that you might have been promised before this, will be sent during this time.

How long are invites valid for?
For invites that you receive, they are typically valid for 24 hours. If they expire, they get returned to sender so someone else can get a chance to buy it. Alternatively, you can ask for the sender to resend it to you. For invites that you can give away, they are usually valid for longer, usually 1-2 weeks.

How many invites can I give away?
This varies. In the beginning, the quantities will be smaller, but increased as time goes by. You will frequently receive new invites to give away as production ramps up.

When do I receive invites to give away?
You do not automatically receive invites when you purchase a phone. We will need to manually roll them out according to our operations situation.
