It's a positive move and a win-win situation."

Nazir said under the current economic situation, "it is fully understood that there is spare capacity."

"It's a positive move and a win-win situation. The programme will also involve branches in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore," he told reporters at a signing ceremony for the formalisation of a 10-year strategic alliance between CIMB Wealth Advisors Bhd and AIA Bhd here tMonday.

The alliance will offer a wide range of insurance protection solutions to customers.

Earlier, CIMB Wealth chief executive officer, Tan Beng Wah, said the alliance would enable its over 5,500 agents and financial planners to market a wide range of insurance products underwritten by AIA and its subsidiary, AIA Takaful International Bhd (ATIB) to their steadily growing clientele.

"The alliance will also open the door for CIMB Wealth to cross-sell products of ATIB, Malaysia's first international takaful operator licensed by Bank Negara Malaysia," he said.

Tan said the alliance would also enable both parties to leverage on their proven strengths and expertise in the areas of wealth planning and insurance protection solutions respectively to offer Malaysians a holistic approach to financial planning.

CIMB Wealth is a subsidiary of CIMB-Principal Asset Management Bhd and is jointly owned by CIMB Group and Principal Financial Group of US.

-- BERNAMA

2.
http://www.theedgemalaysia.com/business-ne...king-leave.html

CIMB asks 36,000 employees to consider taking leave

Tags: CIMB | Nazir Razak | unpaid leave

Written by Reuters
Monday, 30 March 2009 15:49

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian financial services group CIMB has asked its 36,000 employees to consider taking up to six months of unpaid leave as it aims to cut costs in the global economic slowdown, a top official said on March 30.

CIMB is the first major Malaysian company to ask staff to go on unpaid leave.

CIMB Group Chief Executive Datuk Seri Nazir Razak said the offer was made last week to its staff in the country's second-largest lender, CIMB Bank, as well as its units BankThai in Thailand and PT Bank CIMB Niaga in Indonesia.

"In the slower economic environment, we are looking at ways to temporarily reduce our costs. The reception from our staff has been very, very good," Nazir told reporters at a company event.

He said workers who take up the group's offer will start their leave from April 1, but this will not affect the bank's operations.

Nazir said there was no set target on the number of employees accepting the offer and denied the company was cutting staff.

"How can (this) possibly be called a lay-off? We are not instructing anyone to do anything. We are just giving them an option to apply if they wish to take an extended break. Don't interpret it any other way," he said. - Reuters

3.
http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...12&sec=business

CIMB says no-pay leave open to all employees

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group, the country’s second largest financial services group, said a no-pay leave programme announced earlier is open to all employees locally and abroad.

It had issued a memorandum last Wednesday informing employees that they could take no-pay leave from April 1 of between one and six months.

The move was part of the group’s effort to reduce cost amid the economic downturn.

Called the “Staff Rejuvenation Programme”, CIMB Group chief executive Datuk Seri Nazir Razak said Monday any employee in the group was eligible for the programme and that the option would be granted after evaluation by senior management.

He said this at the sidelines of the formalisation of a strategic alliance between CIMB Wealth Advisors Bhd and AIA Bhd.

bad bad news

One Sen Coins To Be Phased Out For Over-the-counter Payments From April 2008
http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v3/news_bus...s.php?id=295898

Business

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
November 13, 2007 16:13 PM

One Sen Coins To Be Phased Out For Over-the-counter Payments From April

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The government will phase out the one sen coins for the over-the-counter (OTC) payments to cut handling costs and effect greater convenience via a rounding mechanism from April 1, 2008.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Mohamed Shafie Apdal, said under the mechanism, OTC payments would be rounded up to the nearest multiple of five sen and it would apply to the total amount of a bill and not on individual items.

"The total amount of the bill that ends in one, two, six and seven sen will be rounded down and three, four, eight and nine sen will be rounded up to the nearest multiple of five sen," he told a press conference on the implementation of the rounding mechanism here Tuesday.

For example, a bill amounting to RM82.01 sen will be rounded to RM82.00 and a bill totalling RM82.04 will be rounded to RM82.05.

"The one sen coins will continue to be legal tender but the total amount produced each year will be reduced," he said.

Shafie said Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) produced 360 million pieces of one-sen coin per annum but of these, only about one percent came back to the central bank.

"So far, the amount in circulation is about 4.4 billion pieces.

"BNM is expected to save RM14 million annually in minting costs with the phasing-out of one sen coins for over-the-counter payments," he said.

He said the move would greatly benefit consumers and sellers as counter transactions would be faster.

"What's important is that it will reduce economic wastage," he said.

Shafie urged sellers to display the mechanism table at their outlets to ensure that the customers understand the mechanism and were appropriately informed.

"The implementation is applicable to all over-the-counter payments either in cash or non-cash. However, it will not be applicable to online transactions," he said.

All information on the mechanism could be obtained at the ministry's website at www.kpdnhep.gov.my or BNM's website at www.bnm.gov.my.

-- BERNAMA

all prices will go up asap

Kayveas, said Tuesday.

Kayveas said Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop had told Parliament recently that banks should stop using the services of CTOS.

"Financial institutions should use the services of the Insolvency Department, Companies Commission of Malaysia and Central Credit Information System, and not CTOS," he said.

Kayveas said though the Finance Ministry had directed banks to stop using the services of CTOS, they were continuing to do so.

"They (the banks) are going against a directive from the government. I do not understand why they are continuing to support CTOS when people have suffered because of the services," he said.

Yesterday, the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) announced that banks would seek consent from customers before carrying out checks with credit reference agencies.

According to ABM, the consent will speed up the loan application process as it enabled banks to seek additional financial information to support the loan applications.

-- BERNAMA

what do you guys think ?

if the info is updated regularly and there is a limit to the number of years of history to be erased - then it is very good

One public service we can't do without is the Internet service. Malaysians are at the mercy of Telekom Malaysia Berhad for our Internet connection. As with all monopolies we have to put up with them or shut up.

Although I have broadband connection through Streamyx, I am constantly left without an Internet connection almost every month for long periods. The last time I reported a fault was on June 15, 2007. It took Streamyx technicians six days to solve the problem. What shocked me was that when I phoned their Customer Relations Department a few days after I reported the fault, I was told that a technician had fixed the problem, phoned me and I had confirmed to him over the phone that I now had Internet access. This is a blatant lie!

No one from Streamyx called me. This entry in my report about someone calling me was read out to me over the phone by several customer relations officers at 1300 88 9595. An officer, Razali Ali, even had the cheek to tell me that he had another two days to solve my problem because he had to re-open the file.

The file should never have been closed because no one called me and I'm sure it is probably because no one even bothered to fix the problem. What the Streamyx technicians did for those two days, God only knows. Perhaps they decided to go for 'teh tarik' and then lodge a false report that they had called me to cover themselves.

Worse, this was not the only time this happened. On April 23, 2007, Streamyx took eight days to solve my problem. All the hype about Streamyx solving technical problems in 48 hours is a myth. Again my file was closed for some other false reason and re-opened so that it took Streamyx eight days to solve the problem.

Prior to this, I again had no connectivity on March 19. And the list goes on and on and on. Yet, I have to pay the full amount for my Streamyx bill every month. It was impossible to speak to any of the supervisors either, even though I had a serious complaint concerning a false report lodged in my file. Four different customer relations officers at different times of the day gave me the standard answer - no supervisor was available to take my call.

Finally an officer called Hafiz offered to fill up a form and submit it to his supervisor called Jaya to let her know that she had to urgently call me. Yet this Jaya person never called.

As a result of Streamyx irresponsible behaviour and incompetence, I was forced to go over to Telekom Malaysia Berhad's head office in Bangsar. Prior to that, no one answered any of my calls at Telekom's Corporate Communications Department although the phone calls were made about 2:30 pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2007.

When I finally went over to Telekom's head office, Assistant Managers Ms Zeta and Ms Haini promptly informed me that everyone at Corporate Communications was away at meetings except them. Whatever these meetings were, they certainly weren't benefitting the public. Neither was their RM600 million building.

The privatisation of Telekom has brought nothing but woe to the public because it is still a monopoly in many ways. Telekom has a monopoly on the fixed line network and a considerable market share of the mobile communications market. It is the sole DSL broadband provider in the country.

A free market forces companies to work hard to improve their services in order to get ahead, resulting in better services for the consumer. These companies deserve to do well and deserve our business because they work hard to prove themselves.

Instead, after 50 years of independence, Malaysians are forced to tolerate poor service at exorbitant prices, probably because we are paying for RM600 million buildings and not for quality of service.

I'm now conducting a public survey to get feedback from other users of Streamyx. Please contact me at kajol33@yahoo.com if you have any complaints about this broadband service.

comment
someone should collate all these complaints and put them all in one website

DiGi unveils new prepaid plan for youth market

DiGi unveils new prepaid plan for youth market

DiGi unveils new prepaid plan for youth market
SHAH ALAM: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has launched a new prepaid plan, "Fu-Yoh!" offering lower call and data rates to meet the needs of Malaysian youth.
Segments and marketing head Loong Tuck Weng said under the new plan, SMS and MMS rates were reduced by 50% to seven sen and 25 sen respectively for calls across all networks.
He said the plan also included a flat rate voice tariff of 38 sen per minute and a "Friends and Family rate" of 1 sen and 10 sen for each SMS and MMS respectively, and call rates at 15 sen.
"One of the key needs of youths today is staying connected and being available. The lower rates plan will definitely help cut their mobile phone costs," Loong told a media briefing yesterday.
DiGi currently had a customer base of 5.3 million, many of whom were prepaid subscribers in the youth category, he said.
On the local prepaid market, Loong said more than 40% of mobile phone users were aged 15 to 24 who sent and received an average of more than 20 SMS and made six calls a day.
From 12am to 12pm on Sundays, "Fu-Yoh!" prepaid subscribers only need to pay for the first three minutes and enjoy unlimited talk-time with other DiGi users.
Under the plan, subscribers pay a monthly fee of RM3, which is currently waived for two months from today.

http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...26&sec=business

http://www.digi.com.my/fu-yoh/

Digi - the BEST mobile phone company
DiGi Prepaid - 38 cents Nationwide

http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v3/news_bus...s.php?id=225070

October 16, 2006 17:09 PM

DiGi Introduces New Tariff Structure

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has introduced a new tariff structure for its prepaid mobile services, which will allow customers to enjoy one low flat rate for calls to anyone on any network.

From Monday, DiGi prepaid customers need only to pay 38 sen per minute for all voice calls nationwide, regardless of whether it is an outstation, inter-operator or peak hour call, provided their monthly usage is more than RM30.

DiGi's chief executive officer Morten Lundal said the new tariff structure was designed to give customers what they wanted in terms of simplicity, best value and fairness.

"Customers should not be made to calculate different rates for calls to different operators or to different states. There are so many limitations to making a phone call and getting the best value from it," he said in a statement Monday.

Currently, there is a gap between the rates that the operators publish and the ones that the customers are experiencing.

Prepaid mobile customers are charged different rates for intra-operator and inter-operator calls.

"With the new tariff structure, DiGi customers will only be charged one low, flat rate for all calls. There are no hidden costs," Lundal said.

In addition, customers who are currently enjoying DiGi's "Friends and Family" package will be able to call six designated "Friends and Family" numbers at just 15 sen per minute, per call and one sen for SMS (short messaging service).

-- BERNAMA

i thought they would have dropped the call price at 30 cents - but 38 cents is still good
