Problem with my Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish)

Lately my blue scale betta had a swollen bump under it's gill, I thought it could be an infection of bacterias, parasites or worse a tumour. But later on I get to know that his bowel waste in the aquarium was huge and the swollen bump has faded.

The problem now is why does he need to have a swollen bump under it's gill before he could defecates. Compare to my other red scale betta, he defecates without having a swollen bump at all.

What could probably cause this to happen???

By the way, I bought both of the bettas 3 weeks ago.
