Negligent insurance agent

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has any idea on this.

Unfortunately, I was affected by the recent flood incident. My house and my cars were all drown by the flood (8 feet++). My house was flood insured but I found out that time 1 of my 3 cars were not.

I used the same agent to renew the insurance for all 3 cars and every year when it is time to renew my 2 cars (in the same month), I verbally reminded the agent that I need the flood uninsured car to be insured as well. But seems like that did not cross my mind to double check on this addon as there are a few months gap between the cars and my busy schedule. The agent just copied and pasted the same coverages from the year before every time . This has been like that for a few years and if not because of this flood, I would not have found out about this agent carelessness. You might be thinking why I am so careless to not do the check myself but that is what an insurance agent should do, to close the gaps and make sure the client has the appropriate protection. After all, the agent is earning the commission for the service despite there are cheaper option that bypassed any agent and I do not mind paying extra for that.

What are the options available for me to not be totally affected by the loss incurred from my car due to the insurance agent negligent? Do I need to sue or file a case? Any less damage option to both parties? Open for suggestions.
