[WTA] Network IP crashing

My organisation has a couple of computers. Some are fixed IP while some are DHCP configured by the router.

The fixed IPs are in the range from 13.193.17.90 to 13.193.17.199

The DHCP are in the range of 13.193.17.200 to 13.193.17.290 which have been set at the router configuration.

However some of the computers are crashing IPs. Is there a way to detect which PCs are crashing IPs with which PCs?

Appreciate any help.

Router to router modem

I have a problem.

I bought a Level One router. And then I have another router modem Billion type from TMNET.

Question :

1. Can I use the Billion router modem to connect to the Level One router using the WAN port?
2. If the above is possible what connection should the Billion Router be in? Bridge mode or PPPoE?

I wish to use the Billion modem to connect to the internet while the Level One act as a DNS assigning a specific IP address to all the PCs. And also control some sites accessed on the network.

Client firewall need fixed IP

Hi - I was wondering if experts out there could help me out.

We are working with a bank on a project where we need to access one of their servers through FTP. However their IT department called me up and asked for my gateway IP so that their firewall could allow us to access into their server.

We are a small company running on a dynamic IP standard SOHO business package (Streamyx) with the give-away ADSL modem installed.

My question is apart from subscribing to an expensive fixed IP package from Streamyx, is there another way whereby we are able to ftp into my client's and firewall?

Some say :

1) get a fixed IP but it is expensive.

2) get a CISCO gateway router (costing about RM3K) and configure the router's IP to be fixed (have yet to test it out).

Any other suggestions? or cheaper alternatives.

Appreciate any feedbacks out there.

iPhone Data Usage Issues (Maxis, Celcom, DIGI)

NEWS HIGHLIGHT

I have been using the iValue plan 100 (500 MB data plan) and iValue plan 155 (1GB data plan - got two plans under me) for the last 2 months.

First month bill not a problem. However on the second month when I received the bill I got a shock of my life that they charge me RM250 extra for my iValue Plan 100.

You see, we have been very careful when it comes to using our datas - to not exceed them always checking on the settings > general > usage on the iPhone.

My last month usage for the plans were 420 MB (for iValue 100) and 320 MB (for iValue 155) - from checking the iPhone usage BUT when the bill came - my iValue 100 was 580 MB however my iValue 155 was correct at 320 MB.
I have to pay an additional RM250 for the 80MB!

My question is that if there was a variance between the iPhone usage indicator and Maxis billing, it should be +/- maybe 50 MB but the variance is a whopping 160MB!!!

I complained to Maxis and one of the staff couldn't understand what I was talking about and just say that it was cheap already. Wah, damn irritating man when talking to her - seems like it was the time of the month. Slammed the phone down and called another staff - This one wrote in a complain for me.

Have anyone of you face this problems as well? Is there a big difference from your iPhone usage indicator compared to your bill? Feedback appreciated.

Importing Macbooks from the USA

I dont know if this is the right place to post but do you think there will be import tax if I were to ask my US counterpart to send them to me?

If there is an import tax, what is the percentage like?

Golden Retriever limping on front left foot

My 8 months golden retriever seems to be limping. Not touching much on his front left foot. Took him to the vet yesterday and here is what the vet did :

1. checked for bruises / injuries in side his paws, between his paws - nothing - no injuries.

2. Made movements on his leg - no pain or nothing has been broken.

So the doctor game me some inflammable pain killers I think and medicine to wash his paws. They asked me to use these for 5 days to see if he improves. Else an x-ray needs to be done.

Question :

1. Does lack of exercise, running around caused this problem? He stays in our garden / occassionally inside the house or he needs a bigger ground to do his running.

2. Could it be because of our slippery tiles that he has developed this habit?

Any advise appreciated.
