Hygiene

i came across this when i was watching the discovery channel a few years ago and then i totally forgot about it.
untill a few days back i met a new friend who were doing the diamond water business and she was talking about how good is it to prevent diseases, and all those good stuffs.
while she was explaining it to me, the hygiene hypothesis pops back in my mind.

so, are we overdoing hygiene?

i mean we need to be hygienic up to a certain point like boiling the water b4 drinking, sterilizing scalpels b4 operation but if we like sterilize everything in our life and then 1 day if we come into contact with just a little germs we might fall very ill because our body is so used to a sterile environment.

because of this, our body might react to non harmful substance or pathogens. this is more commonly known as an allergic reaction.
allergic reactions arent common in developing nations but are very very common in developed and industrialized nations.

The Hygiene Hypothesis

In medicine, the hygiene hypothesis states that a lack of early childhood exposure to infectious agents, symbiotic microorganisms (e.g. gut flora or probiotics), and parasites increases susceptibility to allergic diseases by modulating immune system development.

First proposed by David P. Strachan in an article published in the British Medical Journal (now the BMJ), in 1989, the hygiene hypothesis was developed to explain the observation that hay fever and eczema, both allergic diseases, were less common in children from larger families, which were presumably exposed to more infectious agents through their siblings, than in children from families with only one child. The hygiene hypothesis has been extensively investigated by immunologists and epidemiologists and has become an important theoretical framework for the study of allergic disorders. It is used to explain the increase in allergic diseases that has been seen since industrialization, and the higher incidence of allergic diseases in more developed countries. The hygiene hypothesis has now expanded to include exposure to symbiotic bacteria and parasites as important modulators of immune system development, along with infectious agents.

further reading

so wat do you guys think?

are those products that are supposed to make us healthier in the market today might actually backfire and make us weaker in the long run?

i saw photographers in the studio used it. and i think they only intend to use it there cos it looks like it weighs 3 tons.
after seeing one, man my hands really gets itchy to get one.
saw a couple of hassleblads and mamiyas costs around 1k - dunno how many ks in ebay.

my questions is, using this type of camera, does the photographer need to figure out the exposure all by himself?
cos this type of camera is like all spring loaded, no batteries needed and therefore no computers and sensors to calculate for you.
if wrong exposure means wasted film (a pack of 5 rolls of fuji velvia 50 120mm films costs around 150 bucks).
one roll of films only provides 10 -12 exposures.

they also have digital backs which means you can have a digital medium format.
but getting one of those means selling off one of my limbs.

one more question is, how much does it cost to develop this kind of film in our regular photo store?

thanks!

i'm planning to get it.
the leica lens, psam func, native 16:9 pics and vids, small form factor are really tempting me.
my question is, how this camera will perform when shooting bokehs?
of course not like the leica noctilux 50mm f/1.0,
but rather on how "apparent" the bokeh is.
can any sifus give any comment on this?
the max aperture is f/2.8 on the lx-2.

[addedon]October 3, 2007, 1:30 pm[/addedon]no one commenting?

hi there fellow forummers. i am sure that almost anyone have their fair share of dream cars such as a ferarris, aston martins, lambos, skylines, evos, bmws, merc etc. even me myself have one which is a lotus elise (i'm not a speed freak but rather a handyman). although it is not quite difficult buying one of these cars but the problem comes when it is time for their maintainance, petrol consumption, etc.

one of my friend's upline owns a ferarri f360 modena and he said that even the replacement fuel cap (the one which you need to unscrew whenever you are filling up) itself costs 5k. i've seen somewhere in this forum a picture of lambo LP 640's road tax which costs a limb-taking RM 16 or 18k.

so, any of you forummers actually owns any type of sport or luxury car (must be stock and not modded car) or heard from anyone about the maintainance fees or petrol consumption of any sport or luxury cars, please do share. actually it is kinda interesting knowing all this.
