Accounts Question - Guide Me!

I was doing some accounts questions and I got stuck on one.
Need some help guys.

Case 1

Additional investment made by shareholders during the year
$4000

Revenue
______

Expenses
$17700

Net Income
$4000

Dividends declared
$700

Total assets:
Beginning of year - $16000
End of year - $28000

Total liabilities:
Beginning of year - $8700
End of year - ________

Share Capital:
Beginning of year - $1000
End of year - ________

Retained earnings:
Beginning of year - $6300
End of year - ________

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I managed to get the total assets beginning of the year - $16000 using the
Assets = Liabilities + Shareholders' Equity formula.
That's the only thing I got right, I got everything else wrong (its online so you get the results back immediately - but no answers >.<) and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

(Revenue + Add. investments) - Expenses = Net Income
(X + $4000) - $17700 = $4000
X = $17700
But its wrong... anyone can tell me why?

Net income - Dividends = Retained earnings
$4000 - $700 = $3300
But its also wrong... am I doing it wrongly?

Of course with the above all wrong, I can't fill in the other blanks.
I need some guidance...

Reputation vs Cost

Hi guys, I've a dilemma.

I posted in the Study Canada thread but I've no response (not many peeps studying in Canada hanging around here)

Well to make my question more universal,
I'd like to know your opinion regarding this issue

university's reputation vs cost

I reckon I'd be accepted by Uni of British Columbia (UBC), I've already been accepted by Simon Fraser University (SFU),

1. UBC is ranked higher than SFU.
2. UBC cost CAD$ 10k more than SFU
3. I intend to go to grad school (master's, post-grad, etc, because of this some people say the university's reputation is important...)

I intend to pursue a degree in Commerce and have heard good things about UBC's Sauder School of Business and SFU's co-op program. Any comments on both the programs? My student advisor's opinion was rather skewered towards SFU. She thinks UBC's a rather snotty institute

Most importantly is the question above would you go for reputation or would you save $$?

Discovered his books 2 years ago (randomly bought Monstrous Regiment during a sale), was smitten with the Discworld ever since.
Any fans around here? I notice there aren't many people reading his works (I found it an excellent replacement after the void the last Harry Potter book left in me, 'm a book junkie )
Also I find it difficult to locate some of his books, the local bookstores are a huge letdown.

Hi y'all i need help with a question,
i don't really know how i should approach the question to solve it...
anyway the question goes like this:

Identify all possible maximum, minimum, inflection and intercepts and sketch

1. y= 4x^(5) + x^(4) + 3x^(2) - 2x + 1

I just need to know how to do one question then i'll know how to do the rest

So please help me out
