Hello, I’m considering to subscribe for wireless bb service (Digi or Yes). Unfortunately, my apartment in Kajang is located a few meters away from the coveage area. I live in 2nd floor of a 4-storey apt and my block is 180m away from Yes coverage area, 50m away from Digi coverage area.

My question is will I be able to get conection from my house? Someone told me it's possible but it may occasionally disconnected. But if it disconnects 1-5 times daily, still way better than Maxis BB that can get disconnected literally hundreds of times even in coverage area. (I destroyed my Maxis bb modem last week coz I got so pissed with it )

How good is government home loan?

Does anyone know the interest rate of the government home loan? Is it fixed or flexi?

I'm looking to get a loan (90%, 30-40 years) to buy an apartment around RM190k but I'm in a dilemma in choosing the better option;

1. Buy an apartment now with a bank loan. After 3 years from now, I will be eligible to get a subsidy from my company (TNB). If the interest rate is more than 4%, they will pay the rest of the interest. (assuming that I work with them till I retire)

2. Wait 1.5 years until my wife (who is a civil servant) is eligible to apply for government home loan which I don't know the policy and interest rate.

I will really really really really appreciate any advice.

How to connect desktop hard drive to laptop?

My laptop hard disk died yesterday and I'm thinking about replacing it with my old desktop hard disk or external USB drive, I don't care if it's hanging out of the laptop because it surely won't fit inside the laptop. I think it's impossible but I know the lowyat community has a lot of genius who may be able to help me out

What most people will say is simply buy an ATA IDE to USB converter that enable us to connect an ATA IDE hard disk to USB port...but that won't work for me because my BIOS won't let Windows boot from a USB device..the device has to be connected to the main drive (ATA IDE port) in order for Windows to run.

I don't know if these adapter exist but it they do, my problem will be solved:

1. 3.5" ATA IDE female to 2.5" ATA IDE male adaptor
2. USB to to 2.5" ATA IDE male adaptor

Do these adapters exist or is there any other way I can do it? Thanks.

I'm getting a used car soon and shortlisted these ones. Now my only consideration is the running cost for the next few years of my life, including the loan payment, fuel, insurance & maintenance. Would u share your experience by voting in this poll?

I have Googled a lot about these cars' reviews but people come up with really different opinion/experience with the cars. This makes it hard for me to make a decision but assuming if I buy one of those cars with 100% loan, use auto t/m, do the maintenance as scheduled, drive ~14,000km/year, drive it carefully, which one will make me spend the least money in the next 7 years? Thanks.

Problem description:

The "Authentication Required" window keeps popping up even though I entered the correct user name and password. This caused me unable to log in to my website control panel that is hosted by exabytes.

This problem is not caused by the browser but my internet connection because I'm using a school network, everything is fine when I use 'regular' internet connection at my home. Using a proxy server in my school network doesn't solve the problem at all.

I tried to use Firefox, IE8 and Google Chrome but the problem will always happen. Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

It is hard to get a complete official statistics for education in Malaysia. I know that there's about 480,000 students who started their primary education (standard 1) every year. Let's assume that about the same number of students take PMR and SPM every year. Out of these 480,000 students, can someone ROUGHLY estimate the percentage of students who later in their lives:

Get straight 8A's or more in PMR: (I think about 6%, 29,000 students)
Get 7A's in PMR:
Get 6A's in PMR:
Get 5A's in PMR:
Pass PMR:

Get 9A's or more in SPM: (maybe 4.6%, 22,000 students)
Get 8A's in SPM:
Pass SPM:

Go to overseas for higher education:
Go to local IPTA and IPTS:
Get a diploma:
Get a bachelor's degree:
Get a masters degree:
Get a phD:

I'm asking this just because I'm curious.. It's also good to know the statistics if we want to estimate where we are in the ranking (like top 1%, top 10% or top 50% in the nation).

No display and overheating in my Lenovo T61

My lappy had been running perfectly for 2 years and finally it had it's first, major problem. The screen suddenly tinted in pink, and then turns black, and Windows will crash afterwards. When I turn it back on, vertical dotted blue lines are seen in Windows boot screen and the problem will repeat within 5 minutes.

Now the problem gets worse, the screen won't show anything but it will show on external monitor. The problem will definitely happen when I run the rating update for Windows Experience Index (I assume it's because the CPU & GPU are 'busy' during the rating update). I just check the temperature and it wasn't good; CPU: 62 degree celcius at idle, 95 when it's busy (before it crash), GPU: 60 at idle, 92 when it's busy. Both parts were running between 30-50 degree when the lappy was new.

It's easy to conclude that the overheating is the cause of the problem, but why? The fan is running faster than 3600 RPM, no dust and I invested RM25 for new thermal paste but it still overheats. Is this problem sounds 'fixable'? Or it's a serious mobo problem?
