Switching from Android to Blackberry

Hey boys and girls, I'm seriously considering switching over to BB from Android once my contract with Maxis expires in a month. Now, I've been trawling the BB forums and websites trying to ease my transition anxiety. I don't want to regret my decision 3 months down the line. So I would really be grateful if you guys take the time to respond to some of my queries with your honest opinions based on your experience with BB. I don't want this to digress into a Blackberry vs Android vs whatever war.

But first, my setup (if it makes any difference): Samsung Galaxy S, rooted, Gingerbread 2.3.4 with latest MIUI build, 3G always on, Auto sync, background sync for Gmail, Gtalk. Whatsapp and Trillian are always on and connected using Google's C2DM push service. Facebook, Twitter, Weather and other services poll for updates every 2 hours.

1. Main reason why I want to make the switch: Battery life on Android is basically crap. If i use the phone sparingly (read: hardly at all) I can make it to abt 19 hrs with 1% batt life remaining, any significant use (SMS, Gtalk, whatsapp, browsing, calls) will kill the battery within 9 hrs. Looking at my usage pattern, or at least on average, how long would a BB last - with 3G on all the while?

2. Device: Bold 9780, BB Torch or should I wait for the mythical, no-show 9900?

3. Performance: BB Torch vs 9780 on OS6. Torch looks kinda laggy on the Youtube reviews. Is it any better now with the latest leaked OS6 builds? 9780 looks ultra smooth.

4. HW features: I miss having physical keys. Say what you will about Swype, auto correct, predictive text - text entry on touchscreens suck. Hard. So, Torch or 9780 have better keys?

5. Web browsing: I guess I'm pretty spoilt by the Android browser. Is the BB browser up to par? Am willing to use Opera or whatever 3rd party alternative.

6. Apps and ecosystem: Well, I know that the BB app world isn't as vibrant as the Android Market, but is it that bad? Everything looks so expensive (themes for USD7? Come on...).

7. RIM tanking: Everyone is sounding the death knell for RIM. Am I crazy for choosing BB this late in the game? What would you do? BB loyalist? Or looking to hop as well? What are your reasons for staying with BB or are you intending on trying something new?

tl;dr: Considering switching from Android to Blackberry because even though Android is great, the battery life stinks. Should I or shouldn't i? Which device?
