buying MSI motherboard

hi guys and sifus,

recently i am having trouble with my rig,
i posted the problem here (https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3355598&hl= ) and i come up with the most logical conclusion that the motherboard and psu spoilt.

so i was looking at pricelist for new motherboard, i want to double confirm that my choice of motherboard suits my current specs which is 2 years+ old.

my spec:
Intel S1155 i5-3570K, 3.4GHz, 6MB cache
Asus S1155 P8Z77-V LX
Kingston DDR 3 PC1333 4gb x 2
WD 2TB 7200rpm 64mb green
Asus Geforce GTX550 TI Direct CU Top 1gb DDR5
Cooler Master GX650Watts Bronze LED
CM elite 430 black
Lg 24x dvd-rw

the bolded part above is the two units i want to replace. my question is:

1. the motherboard, i want to change to MSI. i found out from the latest price list that the most suitable one is MSI B85M-G43. but is this compatible with my current processor?
2. the power supply, i heard from others that for my spec i require at least 700W. is this true? any other recommended brand for psu beside Cooler master ?

thanks in advance for the reply...

pc auto restart - PSU surges detected during...

Dear all sifus sekalian,

I'm very sorry if this has been a repost topic, but since my computer now keeps auto restart when i enter windows, I do not even have a proper time to search for previous related posts regarding this issue (was using friend's computer to post this urgently) so i hope u guys dont mind and please help me to solve this problem.

Few months ago my computer will auto restart without warning (no blue screen at all), but not so frequent - maybe just once in 2-3 days. So i thought it was overheating issue so i cleaned up everything (including the dust that covers my PSU, thsi is my first suspect that my computer auto restarts because psu overheated). But since this time, when i shut down my computer, i realised that there will still be power running on my board, proved by the continuous running of processor fan and there are some lights as well (casing), so i have to force shut down by pulling the plug away

So everything is working well until today, my pc keeps restart itself and cannot even enter to windows....even if successfully enter windows, it will just restart in 10-15 seconds later. so during the bootup i found out this message from the bootup first screen

"power supply surges detected during the previous power on.
ASUS Anti-Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply unit!"

so my question is:

1. does this mean that my PSU is faulty already? I know i can disable this anti-surge function but i do not want to, because i scared it will damage my other components
2. what are the causes of this psu surge leakage? is it because of thunder storm ?
3. solutions other than changing new PSU? do i need a voltage regulator for safety feature ?

HP Laptop facing big problem

Hi, I have a HP Pavillion g4-1000 series laptop which i bought from Thundermatch last year July,2011.

Recently, one of my friend performed windows update on my this laptop. Being the genuine OS, of course I said no problem.

But the problem starts after performing this windows update. The laptop is unable to enter Windows 7, prompting error of 'Boot device not found Hard disk (3F0)'. After some troubleshooting and using windows 7 to repair but unable to repair, somehow it is able to enter back to windows safely but here's the problem: every time i boot this laptop, i face high risk of bumping into this same error again. And sometimes the speed of the laptop slows down drastically while performing simple tasks in win7 such as opening control panel, opening my computer etc, where it sometimes took more than 30 secs to do these.

So what I did, I use HP system restore, to restore to previous state before I perform the windows update. The same problem still exists, I tried restoring to an even earlier date (about Oct last year) and the problem still exists.

Finally I decided to try system recovery, to recover my laptop to its original factory condition. I used 3 DVD-R to create the recovery media and yesterday I performed the system recovery. Everything seemed well, formatting HD and copying required files seemed well, until the part 'Installing HP software' Halfway through the installation, suddenly it stopped and a DOS command prompt popped out, stating that some files are not found. I can't exactly remember what is the file, and because I don't know what to type in at the DOS command prompt, I simply close it by clicking the X button at top right corner. Everything just stopped there and when I tried rebooting my laptop, it will stuck at the 'Starting Windows' screen for forever.

So, did any of u encountered this problem before ? And one more question, if I bring it back to Thundermatch where i purchased this, since it is under warranty, they should send it back to HP for me ? or fix it for me ?

QoS problem on D-link DSL-2640T

Broadband provider
ISP/package: TMnet Streamyx 1MB
Location: Semenyih
Have you called your ISP's helpline?:

Personal equipment
Modem: D-Link DSL-2640T
Router: D-Link DSL-2640T
Firewall used:

Problem details
First occurence of problem:
Problem frequency:
Problem description:

Hi there. I'm using this streamyx, sharing with 4 person/housemates (total 5 including me). 2 person are using LAN cable (including me), and another 3 is using wireless.
One of the housemates (the wireless user) keep using P2P program (Xunlei and Bitcomet) to be exact. As u all know, Xunlei really eats up alot of bandwidth. And once he on his download, his download can reach up to 150kbps. I've tried talking to him but same thing goes on.

So, I tried to learn how to use QOS, PortMapping QOS to be exact. But I found out that after setting this QOS, the wireless connection in this house cannot be used anymore. At the Local Area Connection there, it is not able to identify the wireless connection, and in the end it will have limited or no connectivity. My housemates keep restart/off and on back the modem but same thing happen, they cannot online because of this QOS setting.

In my QOS setting, i set the wireless to be using PVC1, and then set the PVC1 to have only 256kbps instead of 1024 kbps. I've tried different combination of IGMP proxy/snooping to be disabled or enabled, and also WAN to LAN to be auto learning or port mapping. All of them nvr work, the wireless still cannot online. Once i switch back to none QOS, save and restart modem, the wireless straight away can be used.

Edit: I've also tried setting the priority (from 1-4) instead of bandwidth. Doesnt work too.

Attached is the screenshot. Please advice. This is my first time setting QOS, so I'm really not sure whether I have done it correctly or not

http://img12.imageshack.us/i/screenshotra.jpg/

pc shuts down by itself

the story is like this. i bought a self customized desktop 2 years ago during september.
after using it for like 1 month, i encounter this shutdown problem. the pc just shuts down by itself without a single warning, and i have to press the boot button in order to boot it again. it happened quite often after that, when i was playing game, when i was surfing net, while i was afk too.

so what i do is i brought my pc to a computer shop near my house. the technician there found out that my desktop is using a power supply not suitable to my motherboard. he told me that my motherboard has this 24 + 8 pins while the power supply i was using (which is gigabyte 460w) has only 24 + 4 pins. so i bought a new power supply from him, which was acbel e2 470watt with 24 + 8 pins. at the same time, i also bought a automatic voltage regular AVR800VA from him.

since that day i nvr encounter any shutdown problem.
until now, it happened again. some extra info: i formatted my pc from vista ultimate sp1 to win xp sp3. i found out there is some problem with my device driver, specifically the audio driver. the audio driver is realtek hd audio. at the device manager there, before i install any driver, i should be able to determine which driver tat i havent install by looking at the big '?' sign with yellow color. the weird thing is, i saw 2 audio driver with the '?' sign, both written 'Audio device on high definition audio bus'. after installing the audio driver, there is still 1 '?' sign with the word.i had no idea how to solve this but since there's no problem with the audio/sound, i dont really care bout it.

here's the shut down problem part. this time i was using my desktop without the voltage regulator AVR800VA at my hometown (coz lazy to bring it back). since last 2 week, i had encounter 5 times of automatic shutdown. this time, everytime it shutdowns and i reboot it, once i try to start any games, my ati driver will launch the VPU recover. this nvr happened during the last 2 years.

so now my question is, what really causes my pc to shut down here ?
is it because my pc MUST need the voltage regulator ?
is it because the uninstalled extra audio driver ?
or is there a problem with the graphic card driver ? - which causes the VPU recover to launch everytime i boot it from auto shut down

btw my spec is
amd athlon x2 6000+, abit an52s board, ati radeon hd2600xt ddr4, corsair ddr2 667mhz 1gb x 2, wd sata2 16 500gb hd, samsung dvdrw, acbel e2 470w power supply
