language problem

Hi guys
I have been typing in mandarin since months ago and never encountered this problem that I need help on. Yesterday, I had this issue and its quite irritating as I have to always move my mouse back to whenever I want to type. Please refer to the picture attached . A box appears below just above my taskbar and I start typing in it instead of where I want to type in .For example it goes into the small box in the picture instead of my windows live messenger chat window. I suspect it has something to do with my language setting. Anybody has been through this before ? Whenever i point mouse to the green in colour arrow, it says"finalize the string".
