kUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd has rejected Tricubes Bhd's proposed regularisation plan and trading in the securities will be suspended from July 11.

A stock exchange circular said on Tuesday that Tricubes proposal had been rejected.

"The trading in the securities of the company will be suspended with effect from July 11," it said.

Bursa Securities also said the securities of the company "will be delisted on Aug 7 unless an appeal against rejection of the regularisation plan and de-listing is submitted to Bursa Securities on or before Aug 2," it said.

It emphasised that any appeal submitted after the appeal timeframe would not be considered.

"In the event the company submits an appeal to Bursa Securities within the appeal timeframe, the removal of the securities of the company from the Official List of Bursa Securities on Aug 7, shall be deferred pending the decision on the company's appeal," it said.

QINGDAO - China's largest rail vehicle maker, CSR Corp. Ltd, over the weekend launched its first test train that features speeds reaching up to 500 km per hour.

The six-car train with a fairshaped head is the newest in the CRH series. It has a maximum tractive power of 22,800 kilowatts, compared with 9,600 kilowatts for the CRH380 trains currently in service on the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway, which hold the world speed record of 300 km per hour.
The grey-color train carrying testing and data processing facilities was designed and produced by CSR Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co, Ltd (Sifang Locomotive), a CSR subsidiary based in the coastal city of Qingdao in eastern Shandong province.
Ding Sansan, the company's chief technician, said the concept of the the super-speed train design was inspired by China's ancient sword. The bodywork uses plastic materials reinforced with carbon fiber.
Shen Zhiyun, a locomotive expert and academician with both the Chinese academies of sciences and engineering, said the testing of the super-speed train with speeds of up to 500 km per hour will provide useful reference for current high-speed railway operations.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — Putrajaya’s Bumiputera business co-ordinator Teraju has insisted that delays to big-money government deals are necessary to ensure that Bumiputera interests are protected.

The unit under the Prime Minister’s Department that co-ordinates the so-called Bumiputera Agenda said that revisions to pre-qualifying criteria for the RM50 billion Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project and sale conditions of prime land worth over RM2 billion by UDA Holdings were made to ensure “growth with equity.”

“It’s better late than sorry. After you dish out the contracts, how are you going to roll back?” Teraju chief executive Husni Salleh (picture) told The Malaysian Insider.

The government had eased the pre-qualification criteria for the MRT project to allow joint ventures, and made the minimum paid-up capital non-mandatory following complaints from Perkasa and the Malay Chamber of Commerce that conditions imposed were too restrictive.

A new company, MRT Co, has also taken over as the project owner from Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) and this move could also ease procurement from Malay businessmen, said analysts.

The sale of 3.6 acres of land in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur by UDA — a government agency tasked with encouraging Bumiputera participation in the urban economy — was also rejected by the Finance Ministry after the buyer, 54 per cent Bumiputera-owned Nadayu Properties, was considered not “Bumiputera” enough.

According to Teraju, a Bumiputera company is defined as one that has at least 35 per cent or 51 per cent Bumiputera ownership for public listed and private companies respectively.

However, they must also have Bumiputeras making up more than half of the staff and board members.

The Malaysian Insider also reported that a RM2 billion partnership deal to develop the Pudu Jail site with a China-based firm is also being held up by Putrajaya due to continued pressure by the hardline Malay rights lobby.

Although pressure from these right-wing groups is threatening to derail the Najib administration’s commitment to economic reforms, Husni said that “being inclusive in promoting growth as a whole... has to be taken into consideration if you want to move to the next level.”

He also insisted that “slowing down is not the right word to use” with regards to the new guidelines for the MRT project.

“Many projects do not get delayed but the big projects, you have to put it right. If you don’t do it properly, you can’t ask after that, where’s the Bumi agenda?

“You can’t stop it then. You have to recognise all the important elements and factors before you take off,” he said.

Husni also said that to ensure that these projects are executed smoothly, Teraju has been in consultation with stakeholders such as Prasarana, the government-owned company that will operate the MRT.source

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has started investigations into the purchase of 38 electric trains, allegedly overpriced by half a billion ringgit, from a company in China.

The investigations began several days ago after the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) handed a report to the MACC over the purchase of the six-car Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd for more than RM1.6bil.

The price had escalated to RM48mil per six-car train from the original cost of RM13.7mil per three-car train.

A tender was negotiated last November following the Government’s decision to improve public transportation under the National Key Results Areas initiative for urban transportation.

MACC director of investigations Mustapa Ali said

his officers had started making inquiries into the case but declined to elaborate.

Cameron wants UK firms to invest in Malaysia

UTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak spoke with British Prime Minister David Cameron yesterday and discussed economic and political matters of mutual interest.

Najib also congratulated Cameron on his appointment as prime minister two months ago.

Najib made the call from his office at the Finance Ministry here at 3.15pm and spoke for about 12 minutes.

Najib, who is also finance minister, said Cameron felt that Britain should re-engage with Malaysia and the region because previously, Britain had been giving more attention to other areas.

"Cameron also took into consideration that this region has good economic prospects compared with other areas, thus there are opportunities to boost trade and investment."

Najib said Cameron also hoped to encourage British companies to focus on Malaysia.

"He mentioned the role of Tesco hypermarket in expanding business in this country."

Najib said Britain appreciated Malaysia's role in Afghanistan and expressed concern over Iran's intention to own nuclear weapons.

On May 12, the Conservative Party, led by Cameron, and the Liberal Democratic Party reached a consensus to form the first coalition government in Britain since 1945.

The new government came to power after the general election two months ago which ended Labour Party's 13-year rule under former prime minister Tony Blair and his successor, Gordon Brown.

RM20,000 for slowest Mat Rempit

KUANTAN: RM20,000 in cash awaits the Mat Rempit who ride the slowest.

The state government is organising a special "race" for more than 1,600 youths it had identified as Mat Rempit.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said all of them would be invited to take part in the race.

The race would be divided into several categories where riders have to ride for about 50 metres.

"They can ride just any way they like.

"But they have to use their skills to be the last to reach the finishing line without falling to become the winner," he said at the joint opening of the Umno delegates' meeting for Kuantan and Indera Mahkota divisions here yesterday.

Adnan said "this first of its kind" race was part of the state government's effort to get closer to the public, especially those involved in social problems.

He said Umno leaders must organise more programmes that the public and grassroots leaders can participate in.

"We must work hard as if the general election will be held tomorrow," he said.

To ensure victory, he said Umno must ensure that its members remained with the party.

At the same time, they must also try to woo fence-sitters and counter allegations hurled by opposition parties.
