Torn between iPad and iPad2

I'm torn between getting a 64GB iPad now or wait for iPad 2 which supposedly comes with:

Advantages:
1. Camera
2. USB connectivity
3. Retina display

Disadvantages:
7" screen - though it may give better battery performance???

As a reading, gaming and photo reviewing tool, I would naturally assume bigger screen is better. But iPad 2 is said to be announced in 100 days. I had initially thought it'd be announced by Christmas 2010. Announced in USA by March means people will actually have to QUEUE UP for it for the first 2 months at least and it will be November before it arrive in Malaysia!

I'm sure I'm not the only one stuck in this situation. What's your advice?

Laptop controlling desktop

I have a laptop in my room, which I want to use to control my desktop next to the television in the living hall. What software can I use? I know I can try Remote Desktop Connection but my desktop user account does not have any password and my house is a workgroup on WiFi. Not sure if all these matters anyway but basically, I just want to use my laptop to control my desktop, to set my torrent downloads and not disturb my grandmother while she's watching her tv programme on Astro. How do I do it?

A bricklayer's accident report

A true story, yet a great joke as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a bricklayer's accident report, which was printed in the newsletter of the Australian equivalent of the Workers' Compensation board. This is a true story.

Had this guy died, he'd have received a Darwin Award for sure.......

Dear Sir,

I am writing in response to your request for additional information in Block 3 of the accident report form.

I put "poor planning" as the cause of my accident. You asked for a fuller explanation and I trust the following details will be sufficient.

I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on the roof of a new six-story building. When I completed my work, I found that I had some bricks left over which, when weighed later, were found to be slightly in excess of 500lbs.

Rather than carry the bricks down by hand, I decided to lower them in a barrel by using a pulley which was attached to the side of the building on the sixth floor.

Securing the rope at ground I went up to the roof, swung the barrel out and loaded the bricks into it.

Then I went down and untied the rope, holding it tightly to ensure a slow descent of the bricks.

You will note in Block 11 of the accident report form that I weigh 135lbs.

Due to my surprise at being jerked off the ground so suddenly, I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope. Needless to say, I proceeded at a rapid rate up the side of the building.

In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel, which was now proceeding downward at an equally impressive speed. This explained the fractured skull, minor abrasions, and the broken collar bone, as listed in Section 3 of the accident report form.

Slowed only slightly, I continued my rapid ascent, not stopping until the fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep into the pulley.

Fortunately by this time I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold tightly to the rope, in spite of beginning to experience quite significant pain.

At approximately the same time, however, the barrel of bricks hit the ground and the bottom fell out of the barrel and all the bricks fell out.

Now devoid of the weight of the bricks, that barrel weighed approximately 50 lbs. I refer you again to my weight.

As you can imagine, I began a rapid descent down the side of the building. In the vicinity of the third floor, I met the barrel coming up. This accounts for the two fractured ankles, broken tooth, and several lacerations of my legs and lower body.

Here my luck began to change slightly. The encounter with the barrel seemed to slow me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell into the pile of bricks and fortunately only three vertebrae were cracked.

I am sorry to report, however, as I lay there on the pile of bricks, in pain and unable to move, I again lost my composure and presence of mind and let go of the rope, and I lay there watching the empty barrel begin its journey back down onto me. This explains the two broken legs.

I hope this answers your inquiry.

Kind regards,
Mike Pashby
I have 2 Viewsonic VP930b laying in the store collecting dust. My Dell XPS 16 just arrived on Saturday. I am thinking of setting them up for multiple display. Perhaps 1 laptop output to 2 LCDs. My laptop has a HDMI, a VGA port. The Viewsonic VP930b model has 1 DVI and 2 VGA port each. I've come across Display Link products where display can be viewed by USB connectivity. Not sure if this is new technology but I dont know where I can find these locally.

www.displaylink.com

Anyone able to help?

I want to ask if anyone here is keeping Koi in their outdoor compound?

I know they need minimum depth of 4ft due to our hot weather, so they can swim in lower water to keep cool. But what about the minimum length and width for a koi pond for casual hobbyist?

I've seen some which come with water filteration that circulate up and flow down the wall like a mini waterfall? Necessary?

Hope learn a thing or two about these colourful creature... Thanks for sharing!

Hi,

Just want to ask how does a bank evaluate a property? Do they check in their system for the last buyer who purchase a property of that area?

Others tell me that they have an external source. Where does this external source come from? According to one of my banker, she said that her bank has an external source, hence are able to evaluate the property I want to purchase for a higher price (the price the seller wants to sell and still not exceeding my budget). Meanwhile, other banks are evaluating at a price too low, so low that I'm unable to go ahead with the purchase.

So where does this external source come from? Real estate companies?

Do share. THank you.

Dog marking territory with wee wee

Dogs mark their territory by their pee. But, how bad is really bad? I have 2 male terriers. 1 neutered is ok, the other 1 is not neutered and his marking is going out of control.

He marks at my other dog food bowl. He also pee in the drinking water if it's a bowl, hence we changed to bottle water.

He marks at my neutered male dog when they go out to play together until whole face is pee. He marks at my female terrier hind legs and the area on the back before the tail.

When in cage, he will shoot out of cage

Is there any way to control this marking frenzy? Now, I quarantine him to live alone rather than with my 2 other dogs (neutered male and non-spayed female).

Too troublesome...

UPDATED:
Yes, of course will pay for the small amount but hutang not even 2 mths leh... but I am thinking, credit card will usually just penalize you 1.5% or something when you dont pay.

Citibank so big company spend telemarketeer to call for peanuts, dont make sense to me leh... Until 6 times meh? Not RM200,000....

Housebreaking an outdoor dog

I am having some trouble housebreaking my husky who live outdoor in the house compound / yard / porch (whatever you call it). The house is fenced and gated. The area is quite large and consist of grass on one side and tiled the other side.

How do you housebreak them? You cannot put papers that needs to be changed every 3 hours (puppies) or twice daily (adult dogs), so how do you do it? What if they stepped all over the poo and run around the compound, then you'd need massive cleaning.

I tried putting on a aerial dog run. The idea is to tie a hanging rope from one end to another end of the house be it on pillar or trees and let them roam from end to end with a 10ft leash. This way, their scope is more than 10ft radius. My house area is about 40ft length x 10ft leash radius, thus 400sq ft on the tiled side for her to roam and run.

Please assist. I am ready to spend long hours outdoor with them if have to but only during the weekends and after work hours since I work 9 - 5pm daily.

[addedon]March 10, 2010, 9:44 am[/addedon]Wow 97 views and no one is able to share their experience?

Dog Food / Dog Kibbles

The Dog Kibbles thread has been around for some time so I thought we should just start another discussion regarding this subject. We can discuss how healthy one dog food is and what brands we try to avoid but my general avoidance list are:
ALPO
PEDIGREE
SCIENCE PLAN

I have 5 dogs at home. I have been jumping from brands to brands. E.g.: Nutriedge, Blackwood, Natural Balance, Evanger, Innova, Orijen. I even tried not so good brands such as Proformance, Science Plan and Nutri Source.

What are your recommendations for the most cost effective dog kibbles? These keeping of 5 dogs thing is hitting my RM200 per month budget. I am trying to keep my expenditure to a minimal and still strike a balance for the dog's life without sacrificing them too much (like how people just serve plain rice to their dogs).

Appreciate some good advice! Thanks and have a fun time discussing!

I am using 012 from Maxis postpaid as my main line and will be using this for a long time. HOwever, I want a prepaid number on my second phone for emergency usage. It doesnt matter how much or how frequent I have to reload but lesser times is favored so I dont have to trouble myself by "Oh, it's almost due, need to reload, drives to 7-11.."

I do not want to take Hotlink because Maxis sometimes got connection error and as stated above, is for emergency purposes and off and on I will use it to call out. Would Celcom or Digi or U-Mobile be better?

By the way, I am past 26 (noticed many people mentioned something about below 26 take celcom, above go digi) but concern digi line aint too good if my priority is emergency. How about places like Langkawi, Redang, PErhentian, TIoman, Pangkor... Celcom sure got line, how about Digi?

Subang Avenue is nearest to Carrefour, Casa Tiara is nearest to Mesiniaga, while e-Tiara is sandwiched between them.

Saujana Residency and Empire are next to Subang Parade and Wisma Consplant, separated by a road.

Olives is a bit further away, at the U corner where Jalan SS16/1 meets Jalan Kemajuan Subang.

As for Subang Avenues' subsale prices, I've no idea since the project has just been completed and the owners probably have not even collected their keys yet. If I remember correctly, the developer's price was around RM190k for studio and RM300k for 3 rooms. Expect the subsale asking prices to be at least 30% higher. Best if you look out for the ads in The Star, talk to a few real estate agents (take what they say with a big pinch of salt), then check the price with the bankers (who will ask their valuers) before you pay any deposit.

Hi All,

Just want to discuss about these 5 developments along SS16/1 Subang Jaya.
- Subang Avenue
- Casa Tiara
- e-Tiara
- Saujana Residency
- Empire

I am planning of purchasing a unit in SS16/1 for personal stay. Budget is about RM300k. Maybe few years down the road, let it go or keep it depends on finances at that time. If it's affordable, will probably go for those with 3 rooms. Appreciate any kind of advise / info you have for me such as:

1. Which of these 5 projects would be ideal and not expensive for personal stay
2. Which one of the above are still available? Meaning not sold out?
3. What's the net yield value for them?
4. What is the density for each project?
5. How many entry / exit points are there for these projects?
6. Will it jam on my way to work in Cyberjaya?

Any advise / information shared is appreciated.
Thank you.
