DIY home project

So I just finished painting my exterior walls and replaced the gates and fences. The walls are painted with the Nippon Outdoor DShield Water based paints.
I noticed even when I bought the paint with proper wall measurements, I had quite a bit of paint leftover.
I realized like my other paint projects, the excess paint will end up going to my store room which I will leave alone for years and eventually gets dried up.

So this project is about getting them to good use. DShield works well outdoor and it has some protective qualities against mold etc.
These are my leftover paint;

I also had a patch of concrete floor which looks bad

I decided to take those paint and virtually "dump" them onto that concrete flooring. To finish the paint job, I bought a clear Epoxy coat with the hardener about RM150.

1. Clean up process and concrete patch work
- I used the high pressure water jet and washed away all the mold and dirt.
- This was a quick project as I just want to get the leftover paint rather then perfection of the concrete
- I used a cement quick dry and patched most of the major holes on the concrete

2. Applying the paint
- I had 4 colors, White, light grey, dark grey and a little black
- I just poured the white base first and used a squeegee stick to level the paint out. Use shoes with studs or a normal shoe as it is slippery.
- While it is still wet mix the grey and black and I chose a circular method to level the paint out.
- Ensure the paint is leveled out else you will have thick paint blotches which will not dry out.

3. Let it dry (1 day) and apply the Epoxy Clear to add in the final strength.
- It will look glossy once completed.

I am planning for a full metallic epoxy flooring indoor. So this is like a practice ground to test the swirls and squeegee stick.
The normal auto paint does not auto level like the epoxy paint. It dries much faster. Epoxy takes about 2 hours to harden.

Postpartum or Postnatal slimming centres

Hi Ladies,

I am planning to help my wife survey for a slimming site after delivery.

I tried to find some latest thread updates but no luck. As far as I can remember we have these

- MarieFrance
- Busybody
- Assata

Few things in advance, I assume some is going to come back and say these places are scams, or self exercise/diet is better, or try some local product. I am not looking for these responses.

There is also a few people (usually newly joined) that will come and "market" their product or "trash talk" other brands. Please do not do that as well.

So far my research up to now is weighing towards Assata but I feel the same people keep promoting it very diligently.

Do direct me or suggest me some places where I can do more survey and check more.

Thank you

**Ps: Mod, if i accidentally placed this thread wrongly, please help me to move it to the right spot. tqvm.

DIY home project - Vinyl Flooring @ Master Bedroom

Another project to share. I did this some time back and had the pictures stored in my PC to share the DIY project for us to save more money amidst the rising cost of living.

Today I am doing some housekeeping on my PC and saw the pictures thus posting them before deleting them.

So basically this is a simple project, I have been living in my master bedroom and getting bored with the same old same old. I had RM1k to spare. My room is about 21ft x 11ft ~ 230sq ft. I thought about flooring and started a hunt.

I chose vinyl flooring, there is also laminate, wood, etc. There is also 2mm, 3mm, clip ons. You can google all the differences and do a survey on your needs. Basically I opted for a 3mm vinyl flooring because;
- its cheaper
- easy to clean
- easy to install *over the tiles*
- I will not have termite problems

Where did I source my vinyl floor?. It is quite easily available in Malaysia. Been in the market for sometime. If you have the time, you can request quote, compare etc. I just went around Puchong only and bumped across Dynaloc.

www.dynaloc.com.my

It was a hard find but its like those factory shoplots storing and distributing them, not a showroom kind of place. Mostly while I was there, lots of retailers came and went. I told them I wanted to DIY and there were very kind and patient explaining all my questions, even for a 230sq ft request.

They also have a installation guide & video guide for DIYers;

installation guide - http://www.dynaloc.com.my/index.php?ws=pages&pages_id=7309
video guide - http://www.dynaloc.com.my/index.php?ws=video

I spent RM900 for
- 10 boxes of Vinyl Planks *Seriously heavy stuff*
- 2 bottles of waterbased adhesive (1bottle is about 200sq ft)
- Sealants
- Metal Trim (to give a nice finish at borders where vinyl meets tiles)
From the Hardware Shop
- Blade
- Pail
- Scraper
- White Cement
- L-Ruler and metal ruler
Picture: Items bought
[attachmentid=5951780]
Picture: Work area before start
[attachmentid=5951800]

Prep work - (overnight + 1 day)
=========

1. Need to keep the Vinyl flooring boxes in the room over night for the planks to get used to the temperature, the planks are like flexible rubber, it can contract and expand.

2. Since this installation is over tiles, we need to level the seams in between the tiles with white cement. If you do not do this, over time, the planks will slightly sink into the grooves in between the tiles, even with a 3mm. If it sinks, then u can actually see some boxy tile patterns over the vinyl floor.
- Applying white cement over tiles grooves is really hard work and time consuming. I eventually tied the scraper to a long pole and did a mass white cement application all over the room instead of per groove. I let it dry and scraped the excess off the tiles. I had to clean the room well after the white cement and ensure no cement coat layer was there over the tiles.

Picture: Applying white Cement over grooves
[attachmentid=5951815]

Install day - 1 day
===========

1. Make sure tiles are cement free and grooves are almost all filled with cement.

2. Plan your flooring work plan on how to lay the planks
- you can try to test apply dry run and cut them to fit first, **if you not sure there is enough of planks**
- you can apply from middle out if you have some pattern in mind **refer to the dynaloc installation guide**
- you can apply the long part of the plank to the long part of the wall and work your way to the other side
- you can work from the inside part to the exit door
**Just have a work plan, and if are not sure, you can talk to the dynaloc guys on your methods**

3. Pour the water based adhesive over the tiles and make a thin film. ** see dynaloc video for how to **
- The glue will be initially white in color and once it dries, it will be slightly transparent

Picture: Applying water based adhesive (some parts have turned transparent, some are still white)
[attachmentid=5951832]

4. Apply vinyl planks over the glue. Make sure they are tight and close together when you do it. **Refer to video**
- While applying the planks, we can still slightly move and guide the planks to bend a little.
- Once it sticks, do not pull them out and reapply. So advice is to put the planks gently into place first and them press them on the glue hard.
- Its easy to cut and snap the plank, give a slight cut with a blade, and snap the plank. You will need a L-Ruler/metal ruler to draw and cut.
I did not apply borders because I already have a white tiled border. Overall satisfied with the RM1k finish.

Picture : Finished product
[attachmentid=5951853]

DIY home project - Exterior side

Just to share my experience... hopefully it can give someone ideas just like I got it from this forum.. good luck !..

I had an empty area beside which was not used for much. To tile it up it will cost me a bomb so I came up with an idea to cement up the place and build a BBQ spot... I got 2 workers for the hardcore stuff and got the materials to get them done..

Part 1, Cement, island and BBQ. Attached the pictures.

[attachmentid=3350315]
[attachmentid=3350316]
[attachmentid=3350317]
[attachmentid=3350318]
[attachmentid=3350319]

Part 2, Epoxy paint flooring. Cement flooring does not need the etching paint, but the Hardware guy tricked me into buying stating I needed a base paint. The KCC polyetch 100 is actually for steel work but I started using it before reading about it. The base is actually the epoxy paint diluted with thinner 30% to eat into the cement work. and the second coat it diluted with 10% thinner.

[attachmentid=3350320]
this paint is for steel work only. It works on the rust of the steel and "neutralizes them" prior to the paint
[attachmentid=3350321]
empty spot. Even after getting them cemented/concreted, it is dry and dusty. We need to clean them with a degreaser or some mild acid/etching cleaning agent. Let it dry for a week for next work.
[attachmentid=3350324]
Used up the polyetch 100 as a base. This process is not needed but I have already bought the paint.
[attachmentid=3350326]
Epoxy paint is a mixture of the resin and a catalyst. It is not a water base nor oil base. I have a covered area so I use epoxy paint, if it is openly exposed, we need to look for PU paints. We need to mix this 4 part resin : 1 part activator. I mix in a pail and stir about 200 times.
[attachmentid=3350325]
First coat of the epoxy. Add 30% thinner to allow the paint for better anchorage into concrete surface
[attachmentid=3350327]
Completed primer coat
[attachmentid=3350328]
Final gloss after finishing second coat

Cheers !

Recommend this workshop / auto service centre

First of all, if i post this wrongly or there is another post, mods, pls tolong amend...

I would recommend to try out this shop for those ppl with modded cars and for those whom mechanics are afraid to hands on modded cars,

"whatmotorworks, no 8, jalan TS 6/2, taman industri subang, 47510, subang, tel: 56311337/0122958842(leong)" if car broke down also can call him... he can arrange for tow to get your car...

today i was around puchong when my kancil L2 started to make a strange sound when i braked... minutes later i smelt bau brake then stopped to see smoke coming out from my front disc... suspect brake piston jammed...

i canceled my plans and started to look for shops around USJ... so many shops but they dun wan to layan as they had to;
- bring my brake sample to supplier to identify right model..
- if no stock need to get from KL and that also not confirm will get and also correct match...
some told me very expensive and leave car for 1 day...

after 4/5 shops, my fren called and recommended the above shop... just 5mins from summit usj...

the thing i liked about this shop;
- there are 3 guys... all partners... all working together...
- they neva tell me to buy a new repair kit or caliper or anything...
- dismantled it and self-service... cleaned all the rust, washed etc etc....
- fixed all back in, test drove, not happy... dismantled and did all over again... it is those guys with passion...
- they had like a skyline and a silvia lying around, like those sunway shops... but neva treated the kancil guy any different...
- best part is... after 2 hours of servicing and 2 bottles of brake fluid, they charged me RM56. I gave them RM100 and told them to keep the change... in return they demanded i take the balance back... and told me if i want to be thankful, just buy them a drink or something..

well... it is very rare to catch this kind of people nowadays... so... if any of you guy not happy with your current mechanic... try them out...
absorbers... whats the difference

hi guys....

I actually want to ask what is the difference in driving and performance wise for the types of absorbers we use...

i am currently using oem absorbers and quite happy with it... but my hard turnings are not so convincing and sometimes i get this "sampan" ride like feeling at 120kmh....

so i am thinking of upgrading to better absorbers...

i am currently using perdana with 225/45/r17 setup... i dun wan it to be too hard also... i like a comfortable ride...

pls input your experiences... thanks

separate power for my ICE

I am currently having my setup 1HU, 2AMPS, 2(12"DVC), 2(2way,6"rear spk), 2(2way,4"front spk) and 2 tweeters... and all this with my NS60 batteries...

after installing my HID... notice sumthin... my front spk sumtimes no sound from my amps... but when i increase volume, it comes back... also when i switch on HID the front looses its sound...

I am suspecting my load on my battery... i think it is at its peak... my volt is showing 11/12 when it is suppose to be 13/14...

I am thinking of providing separate power for my ICE... so,

- do i need to change my alternator... and add 2 batteries...
- or just get the cylindrical battery usually for the ICE setup.. i dunno how this thing works...

how is the most practical and cost effective way to manage this... pls advise..

thanks
