Keeping up with the various Steam sales and GOG sales and Humble Bundles and Bundlestars and Groupees and so on is becoming a full-time hobby, if not a particularly expensive one. New PC games haven't been this cheap since the days of buying Amstrad tapes from Hendersons for £1.50, and yes, yes I am incredibly old. Continuing this trend, there is going to be a Steam Autumn Sale, and it is probably going to start on November 26th. Based on previous years, this likely could have been surmised even without PayPal's help, but the online payment method has helpfully leaked the sale's start and end dates, to give us time to shore up the necessary cash.

According to PayPal (and to VG247, who noticed it), the Steam Autumn/Fall Sale will begin on November 26th (that's a Wednesday), and end on December 1st (AKA 'Cyber Monday'). Those dates encompass the dread day known as Black Friday, when shoppers everywhere stampede and push and stab each other in stores in order to buy luxury goods at slightly more affordable prices. PayPal's part in all this is flogging Steam Wallet cash, and while Valve hasn't announced the Fall Sale dates to the wider world yet, it does seem highly likely that they'd share this sensitive information with companies acting as secondary payment methods.

Last week, Zack Brown posted a Kickstarter page titled simply “Potato Salad.”

“I’m making potato salad,” Brown wrote. Then, in case anybody was confused or skeptical or more inclined to support the preparation of a German-style potato salad than a mayo-heavy American version, he clarified: “Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet.”

His goal: $10.

The Internet giggled, and emptied its wallet. Within a couple of days, his project had raised more than $1,000. BuzzFeed swooped in for an interview. "I’ve always enjoyed potato salad at Memorial Day parties and Labor Day parties," explained Brown, 31, co-founder of the startup Base Two Interactive in Columbus, Ohio. "Early this week someone asked if I’d ever made potato salad and I couldn’t say that I had. So I turned to Kickstarter to change that."

Now, as of the writing of this post, the potato salad project has raised more than $10,000, thanks to more than 1,400 backers. The page has been shared on Facebook more than 77,000 times.

At this point, Brown seems to be straining for ideas as to what he should do with this funding windfall. He’s already promised to livestream his preparation of the dish. As funding approached $3,000, Brown suggested making an event of it:

My kitchen is too small! I will rent out a party hall and invite the whole internet to the potato salad party (only $10 and above will be allowed in the kitchen)! The internet loves potato salad! Let's show them that potato salad loves the internet!!
I'm hoping that “Let’s show them that potato salad loves the internet” is actually code for “I'm going to prepare some potato salad then donate most of these extra proceeds to a local food bank, so that people who don’t have money to throw at gag Kickstarters can enjoy a meal.” That will make the joke even better!

Proton Inspira hybrid

PDRM will be conducting a 10,000km test of a bolt-on hybrid system called Revolo in one of its Proton Inspira patrol cars. The evaluation is expected to take about two months time, and the cops will provide feedback on the performance of the system then.

Revolo is a bolt-on hybrid system that’s being marketed in Malaysia by DFRAN Technologies. The executive chairman of DFRAN is none other than the ex-MD of Proton, Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir.

If the test run is successful, PDRM may consider fitting the Revolo hybrid system into more of its vehicles. According to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, PDRM currently has about 3,000 patrol cars in its fleet, with an annual fuel cost of about RM28 million currently.

Revolo originates from India, by a company called KPIT Cummins, a consulting and engineering firm public listed in India. It is designed to be used in cars with engine sizes of between 800cc to 3,000cc. A report by Autocar Professional India quotes the cost to be between Rs 65,000 to Rs 150,000, which translates to between RM3,500 to RM8,000 at current exchange rates.

The system consists of an electric motor, electronic motor controller, battery pack, mechanical assemble and coupling, proprietary software for controlling algorithms of the motor and batteries and an intelligent battery management system to enhance battery performance and life. The Revolo system functions in parallel with the engine, which means the engine and motor will work simultaneously.

The system supports regenerative braking for recharging up to 20% capacity, but the battery can also be charged via 220V plug-in and takes three to four hours to get up to 90%, or up to a full charge in six hours.

According to Datuk Seri Syed Zainal, the Revolo system’s electric motor has a maximum torque of 35Nm, and can provide motor assist of between 80km to 100km on a full charge. Claimed fuel efficiency improvement is about 35%.

We’ve put some reading material on the Revolo system embedded in the gallery above, so check it out to learn more about the system. We don’t really have much details on how the system is integrated into the car for now. We’d love to learn more about it.

Autocar India has a test drive review of the system installed in a Maruti Suzuki Alto. Is this system legit or hype like Hydroxene? What do you think?
