2 or 3 gigs for gaming? YES.

Anyways, onto what's goin' on.

Well, my OCZ Platinum 3200 1GB (2x512mb) El Rev.2 (man, that's a mouthful) kit died. Well, specifically one of the modules in the kit died so I had to RMA the whole kid.

So, my experience with OCZ Support was 'ok' at best to begin with... but it did get better. This is what happened:

I sent in my RMA of my Platinum 1GB kit and I had to pay for the shipping as per usual for these deals. I don't hear back for about a week and a half, so I call in and talk to the dude on my case.

He says, "Sorry, we don't carry your ram anymore and since it's the top of the line we don't have anything higher. So how do you feel about having the Gold 3200 El GX XTC 1GB kit with a 1GB flash drive for your trouble?"

I was like, sure why not?

So, they send me back the 1GB kit, which I was a bit disappointed in not having the same quality ram as before, but hey at least I got a 1gb flash drive. So, I go to stick it in my computer and guess what? IT DOESN'T FIT!!!! hahaha

They sent me mislabeled DDR2 ram! So, I called them back and let them know. I don't hear back from the guy for a few days so I call again. This time I get a Service Rep Supervisor. THIS DUDE GOT ON IT!

He paid for my shipping, cross shipped, and then gave me 2GB GX XTC GOLD 3200 DDR Ram.... AND I got to keep the 1GB flash drive!!!!!!!

Sooooooooooooooo....

Now I have 3GB of GOLD OCZ Ram and it's awesome! All my games run soooo smooth. And I have to say... I didn't think 3GB would make much of a difference than 2... but it really does. I run Oblivion and it helps sooo much. BF2 runs great and so do a bunch of other games, plus my system is just running a whole lot more smooth.

Sure, it could be because I had some shizzy ram in there, but I gotta say that before all the errors, Oblivion just runs way better with the extra ram. I have full settings maxed out on 1024x768 with my 7900gtx, and AMD 4000san diego.

Anyone else have any experience with high amounts of ram and gaming?

Sorry for writing so much, I just figured I'd tell the whole story.

_________________
austin texas apartments colognes

It's all in the PSU.

A few years ago, I had upgraded to an ATI 9800XT with a PIV running at 3.0ghz. I was only running a 450 or 500w PSU. It seemed like enough power. Every so often, I would have strange effects. System crashes, game crashes, game artifacts, and all sorts of other weird anomalies. I purchased an OCZ 600w Power Stream, and all my problems magically went away.

Years later, I find myself with a socket 939 board and an Opteron mated to an NVidia 8800GTX card.....and still running off the same 600w PSU.

The one extremely annoying problem I had was, when in game, if I encountered a situation with a large amount of glowing effects, my system would shut off. Not a BSOD or a CTD, but a complete shutdown as if someone pulled the plug from the PSU.

This time, I was armed with the APC powerchute software. During gaming, my system would consume about 550w of power. I'm sure, with high glowing scenes, this increased even more.

I have now been running my Galaxy 1000w for about a week, and my system is purring like a nettik

LM Message of the month: Always check your power requirements.
The more powerful your PSU is, the more likely of a chance you will have of having a stable system which is not being chocked by power requirements. I'd like to say always go for a minimum of 100w from what your requirement is in order to stay in the safety zone.
_________________
austin texas apartments colognes

C:\Windows\System32 folder missing!

This is a very unusual case, but my system32 folder is not located in the C:\Windows directory. In fact it is not even on my computer anymore! I noticed this a while back but it made no difference in how the computer ran so i let it be. Now my C++ compiler isnt working correctly and is locking up, and the problem may be to a "not found" file in the system32 folder. Other programs also have this problem i noticed from a quick debug.

Should I run a repair job of windows XP or does anyone have a solution to this strange problem?

_________________
apartments in austin sell you house
