Seagate Barracuda Extremely Slow Transfer Rate

Hey Sifu,

This is the first time of me using Seagate Barracuda and potentially the first time using SMR drive.

When copying a mixture of files from my old WD RED 6TB to this new drive, smaller 1GB files are fine, but the larger file is extremely slow. The average speed is 1MB/s and literally unusable.

It helps when I pause a bit for the drive to completely rest (I guess pulling cache to drive), but when I read online, the SMR drive is constantly reaching 70MB-150MB/s without issue. Crystalmark shows no issue on the drive, so I wanted to check with an experienced user here about what is happening.

Multiple monitor and speaker setup

I have my PC connected to 3 different location
1) TV at living room through hdmi (sound output from TV to sound bar through hdmi arc)
2) monitor 1 in study room through display port 1 (sound output through pc aux)
2) monitor 2 in another room through display port 2 (sound output through aux from monitor 2)

I wanted to know whats the easiest way to setup hotkey that will toggle visual and audio automatically, for example
1) CTRL + 1 to TV and aoundbar
2) CTRL + 2 to monitor 2 and audio through monitor 2

Hey guys,

I am thinking to connect my TV as 2nd output source of my gaming PC when needed. Cable route can be ~15 to 20m.

I believe HDMI may not be an issue but was wondering how to extend wireless USB or Bluetooth gaming peripherals to game on TV.

I don't expect to play latency demanding titles, mostly it's just games like fall guys, ori, overcooked etc.

Fps stutter caused by hot vrm?

Hi sifus,

Would like to ask, what are some of the reasons that can cause significant drop in fps and stutter beside gpu temperature and driver.

I recently changed my gpu - gtx 1080 ti cooler to frostflow vga 120, temperature was well below 60+ under load. But all of my games fps are worst. Forza horizon 4 can only run at 40+fps at 1440p compared to 100+fps. Anthem was literally unplayable with frame drop to 1fps most of the time.

Cpu was running at 50+ most of the time, maxing around 60.

I have also did a clean driver installation using DDU.

Reading the internet and a lot had said that vrm, mosfet etc. mustn't necessary need heatsink and a direct fan cool will be enough.

So I would like ask what else can I troubleshoot to figure out what's wrong.

FrostFlow VGA120 + GTX 1080TI Setup Question

Hi Sifus,

I recently tried to install the cooler for the GTX 1080 TI, it is working but performance-wise is definitely less than acceptable, performing worse than stock Zotac Blower Cooler.

I believed my setup was correct except for the pump, fan and radiator fan power connector.

I am using Asrock H310M-ITX/ac model and would appreciate id any of you can advise which connector should I use for the GPU. I didn't manage to connect any fan/pump to the GPU fan connector due to the type of connector used on ZOTAC PCB board

Got a simple question and would like to ask for opinion.

I have an old PC which I would like to convert to a home NAS.

I have 1 no. 6TB HDD which is currently 60% filled.

Would like to buy 2 more 6TB for RAID 5 setup.

So my question is:
1) Is there a way to configure aa 12TB setup with RAID 5, without the need of transferring my current 3.8TB files out and back in?
2) Say if I want to add another 6TB in the future, for 18TB RAID 5 setup, is that doable?

Gaming Rig Setup Question

Hi Sifu,

I am planning for my future home setup and would like to check if there is better way setting up such system.

I like the setup to be as minimalist as possible.

I would like to setup something as follow:
1) Gaming Rig to be located at Study Room (near to Living Room)
2) TV to hook back to Gaming Rig with wireless controllers/keyboard & mouse control back to Gaming Rig

To reduce all the latency and delay while keeping the cable management as clean as possible, is the only way running HDMI/Display Port extender and USB extender all the way to Living Room TV area?

Can I use USB hubs with USB extender to connect to all controllers together with keyboard and mouse setup? Any recommendation on the USB hub? (My previous experience with USB hub and multiple devices didnt go well)

MSI AfterBurner not showing CPU Temp

Hi Guys,

I am not sure when it happen, but MSI Afterburner no longer able to log my CPU temp, which it used to be able to.

I am trying to show CPU Temp in tray and in OSD but its just not showing.

I have tried to use other active monitoring plugin like AIDA64, HWInfo but it just doesnt show in the Tray.

I have installed HWInfo app and CPU temp monitoring is not an issue, so shouldn't be sensor issue

Please help.

Improving 5k running speed

Hi Guys,

I have been doing strength training for > 5 years. As usual, neglected cardio most of the time. I recently would like to improve my 5k running speed, effectively while at the same time putting primary focus on strength training.

I am currently 28, my best 5k timing is only 32min (all out, feel like puking at the end), my heart rate generally will be around 165 - 172.

At the moment, my training regime is as follow:

Day 1: Back Day (Deadlift + other supplementary workouts)
Day 2: Rest Day (Some light cardio, stretching etc)
Day 3: Chest Day (Incline + Flat Bench + supplementary workouts)
Day 4: Running Day
Day 5: Rest Day (Some light cardio, stretching etc)
Day 6: Legs Day (Squat + supplementary workouts)
Day 7: Rest Day
Day 8: Running Day
Day 9: may or may not have it, if not, back to Day 1.

My question, and would like to get some opinion, which option do you find it most effective:
1) Try to improve pace of 5 sec every run. say 1st run 6min20, 2nd run 6min15sec etc.
2) Interval training (1 min all out 1 min rest an so on and so forth till I hit 5k)
3) Run at a slower pace but maintaining heart rate at 150, and slowly increase the pace at this sustained heart rate.

I am open to any suggestion and willing to try out any way that will be suitable for me.

Hi guys,

Another thought which had been in my mind and would like to get some opinion from you all.

Say if someone always go for all natural, organic kind of supplement while I go for those that's selling in my protein, will there be any drastic difference? I do agree that the absorption rate and effectiveness of supplement differ, but I have the mentality that it's better than not taking any as our daily food intake is generally not balance.

What's your thought?

Hi guys,

I did some reading and understand that the ratio should be 60:40 for intra:extra.

However, through some body scanner, mine is generally around the range of 65:35. I believed that I have control my sodium intake and work out quite frequently.

But I just want to know what else I may did wrong. Perhaps you may just ask me question and we discuss from there how can I improve the ratio.

I do realize that I drink a fair bit of water daily, around 3 litres and my drinking habit may not be good. Often 250ml to 300ml every intake,instead of slowly seeping.

It's me again... Not sure what happen. But one of my 2TB drive fail again and although I bought I new 2TB drive and install it in my NAS, the volume failed to be repaired.

Is there anyway I can just take that 3 working drives out, connect to my PC and try to retrieve as much data as I can from those drive.

klite codec classic player stutter

Hi Guys,

I am not sure what is wrong, whether its gsync on freesync monitor or what as I have never encounter similar problem before.

Regardless of what kind of video I play, on and off there will be some minor stuttering. It's not fix when I disable gsync, change the renderer to D3D11. What else can I try and how can I fix it.
