Any Google / Yahoo Groups users or managers?

Hey LYNers,

Just wondering how many of you guys use Google Groups or Yahoo Groups and found it hard to keep track of your Yahoo/Google Groups messages? There's a service called Grouply that lets you keep track of your Yahoo and/or Google Groups all in one place and it's free as well as secure.

There are many other additional features that helps cut down the SPAM as well as others such as message rating, bookmarking, hiding messages you don't want to see, tagging, searching, a daily smart digest that gives a summary of your groups and messages, and there's something that Yahoo/Google Groups don't have : social networking. Basically imagine Yahoo Groups / Google Groups + Friendster/Facebook all in one.

Grouply is currently being developed by a start-up company in the United States and has been featured in a popular technology start-up blog Techcrunch. Here are a few interesting reads:

1. Grouply brings a bit of Facebook to Yahoo and Google Groups
2. Grouply closes $1.3 million round
3. Grouply claims to blow past Ning

If you guys have tried it out, let me know what you think. Not sure if there are many online discussion/groups users in Malaysia, hopefully I'm not the only one

Grouply - Take your online groups further!

Are you frustrated with your Yahoo! Groups experience? Being overwhelmed by all the events, announcements, classifieds, job postings and emails piling up in your inboxes?

There are over 300 million users of online groups-alumni associations, hobby clubs, youth sports teams, professional organizations, discussion boards, mailing lists, Yahoo Groups, Google Groups. People love their groups, but they are frustrated and overwhelmed by all the events, announcements, classified ads, job postings, and questions and answers piling up in their inboxes. Are you suffering from information overload, too?

I'd like to let everyone know about a new Web 2.0 site - Grouply - which just launched at the Techcruch40 conference in San Francisco on 9/18/2007 .

With Grouply, you can keep up with your existing online groups in 80% less time. You receive a Grouply Smart Digest(tm) email each day that summarizes what's going on across all your groups, highlighting what's interesting to you and hiding what's not. You can view a single cross-group event calendar, see what's interesting to fellow group members, and quickly search or browse across all your existing groups from one place.

It works on top of your Yahoo! Groups, so you don't have to worry about missing messages from your group members that are not registered with Grouply. Messages that you post will be sent to your Yahoo Groups so other non-Grouply members can view messages that you posted via Grouply. But do tell your group members about Grouply. The more people who use Grouply, the better it gets. Messages become better organized and you can more easily discover people who share your interests. To spread the word, simply click Tell a Friend in the upper right-hand corner of any Grouply page.

And if you're not happy with Grouply at any time you can always revert back to using Yahoo Groups. I am sure you will love Grouply though, as I totally love it. Currently it only works with Yahoo! Groups, but support for other online communities such as Google Groups is on the way.

I'm connected to about 10 Yahoo Groups, and using Grouply to manage my Yahoo Groups works really really well. It's easy to search for messages, send a newsletter out to my groups, join discussions, and what I love best about Grouply is the Smart Digest, which basically summarizes your messages in the past 24 hours all in one email. I know a couple of friends who have 20+ groups and the new messages show up on the Smart Digest in an uncluttered, centralised and easy to view way - not too cluttered, sort by message types, groups or authors.

Just try it, it's free. You can join here Register

Or, you can take a tour here.

Product is still in beta but it looks really really promising. What's missing though is lack of file upload support, which will probably be integrated in the future.

-Heng
