Hi,

Bought a new SIM pack from WORLDCOM TELECOMMUNICATION in Sri Petaling. I saw they are some flyers on the counter showing new Prepaid SIM Pack before and after GST should only be sold at RM10.00. Why I am charged extra RM0.60? When I question the worker, she only told me it is instruction from the boss and gave me a very impolite reply "Kalau aku tahu, aku tak nak jual". I have requested a tax invoice, attached below.

Checking in your FAQ shows,

How much will a prepaid SIM pack cost, now that I am charged for GST?
The price of a SIM pack will now cost RM10.00, inclusive of GST.

I do not mind if the owner wants to make extra 60 cents as profit, but apparently according to the tax invoice, it is for GST. Double GST?

Please advice on next course action.

TP-LINK Banwdith Control

Prerequisite:
1. TP-Link router that supports bandwidth control feature.
2. Fully functioning and connected TP-Link Router.

If you have not configured your TP-Link Router, you may refer to the tutorial below,

P/S : Step 1 - Step 3 can be ignored if you assigned a static IP to your device.

Step 1 :

- Login to your router.
- Click on DHCP Clients List to check the numbers of clients connected and have their IP assigned via DHCP.
- Pick the device that you want to control by looking at the Client Name.
- Note down the MAC Address of device that you want to control.

Step 2 :
- Click on Address Reservation
- Click on Add New Button
* This is to ensure DHCP will assign the same IP address to the device everytime it connects. The current workaround will be null and void if the device uses a different MAC address / static IP.

Step 3 :

- Key in the MAC address of device u noted down at Step 1.
- Key in the reserved IP you want the device to be (I assigned it to the last IP in its subnet, 192.168.0.254).
- Make sure Status : Enabled.
- Click on Save Button
- You will be able to see the saved settings under Address Reservation page.

Step 4 :

- Navigate to Bandwidth Control -> Control Settings Page (Left Side Bar)
- TICK Enable Bandwidth Control
- Select Line Type - Other
- Key in your Engress Bandwidth (Upload Speed), I key in 5000 for my 5Mbps Unifi Plan.
- Key in your Ingress Bandwidth (Download Speed), I key in 5000 for my 5 Mbps Unifi Plan.
- Click on Save Button.

Step 5 :
- Navigate to Rules List Page (Left Side Bar)
- Tick on Enable
- Key in 192.168.0.254 as the IP Range (1 device).
*You can key in a range of IP depending on your needs.
- Key In 1 - 65535 as the port range
*You can limit a number of ports instead all ports
-Key in the Maximum Engress (Upload) Bandwidth and Minimum Engress (Upload) Bandwidth for the device you want.
* In my case i set a min of 50Kbps and maximum of 100Kbps.
-Key in the Maximum Engress (Download) Bandwidth and Minimum Engress (Download) Bandwidth for the device you want.
* In my case i set a min of 50Kbps and maximum of 100Kbps.
- Click Save Button.

P/S :
1. Bandwidth control will only be effective on the IP range you set in Step 4. If the device uses another IP (Static IP/ Changing MAC Address to avoid IP Address Reservation via DHCP)which is not in the range, bandwidth control will not be effective.

Step 1 :

-Connect the LAN Cable from your VDSL Modem / BTU to WAN Port of the router.
-Power On the Router and Connect to the router SSID. [Starts With TP-LINK_XXXXXX, unencrypted]
- Ensure your network adapter is not configured to static IP.
-Once Connected, Open your browser and key in http://192.168.0.1
-You will be prompted for Username and Password.

Default User Name and Password :

Username : admin
Password : admin

Step 2 :

-Once Authenticated, you will be landing at Quick Setup Page
-Press Next button to proceed.

Step 3 :
- If you are using Unifi, choose Unifi Mode.
- As I am using Unifi, the tutorial will be based on Unifi, however Maxis configuration should be very similar.
- Press Next button to proceed.

Step 4 :
- You will be landing at VLAN configuration page.
- Just leave the configuration as it is if you have no idea what it is.
- Press Next button to proceed.
**After completing the configuration, please connect your IPTV LAN Cable to LAN1 of the router as IPTV VLAN is configured at Port 1 of the router.

Step 5 :
- Key in your UniFi username (remember to append @unifi at the end)
- Key in your UniFi password
- If you forgot your password, you can call TM UniFi Centre @ 1300 88 1222 to reset it.
- Press Next button to proceed.

Step 6 :
- Key in the wireless network name. (any name you prefer)
- Choose WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK as the security encryption and set your wireless password.
- Press Next button to proceed.

Step 7 :
- Now you are done with your configuration, press reboot to restart the router.
- The reboot time takes approx 1 -2 minutes.
- Once rebooted, you can connect to your new WiFi Network Name configured in Step 7.
- Once connected, you will be able to surf the web.

As a security precaution, you may also want to disable your WPS as it posses some security concern on your WiFi network.

1. Connect to your newly configured WiFi Network.
2. Repeat Step 2 of the tutorial above.
3. Once authenticated, click on the WPS link (Left Side Bar)

5. Restart your router.

Some review about Maxis FTTH :
Speed quite okay, not much different compared to UniFi, but the Thomson router is lousy!

P/S : I am not a network expert, just for sharing purpose, if i am wrong please correct me.

Difference between UniFi and Maxis VDSL connection :
UniFi VoIP is directly connected to TM's Huawei VDSL Modem, while Maxis VoIP is connected to Maxis Thomson Router.
Different VLAN Tagging,
Maxis : VLAN 621, VLAN821, VLAN822

NOTE : This guide only applies to high rise installation using VDSL (TM Huawei HG665a VDSL MODEM).

*If you intend to do this for ZTE VDSL modem, please follow a similar guide here : http://www.azim.my/unifi/
*I have not tested this on ZTE VDSL, but i think it shouldn't be a problem for it to work.

Equipment Involved : TM Huawei Echolife HG655a VDSL Modem, Maxis Thomson TG784n Router, TP-Link WR842ND Router (CUSTOM, can be any brand or model, but NOT ADSL MODEM ROUTER).

Default Maxis Installation :
NOTE : Maxis Thomson router is connected to LAN2 of Huawei HG655a VDSL Modem.

After Modification :
NOTE : Maxis Thomson router is connected to LAN2 (For VoIP Purpose only), Your CUSTOM Router is connected to LAN3.

STEP 1 : Take a LAN cable and connect to Port 1 of TM Huawei Hg655a VDSL Modem, make sure you set your PC's Local Area Connection IP to fixed as indicated by below Pic.

STEP 2 : Type 192.168.1.1 in your Chrome/Firefox browser,
Username : admin
Password : hs5711Bbvl

STEP 3 : Backup your Huawei configuration file first so that you can easily restore back if anything happens.

STEP 4 : Navigate to Basic -> WAN.
Click on ptm1.621
UNTICK LAN2 on both Port Binding and VLAN Tagging.
TICK LAN3 on Port Binding ONLY!
Click on Submit button!

STEP 5 : Connect your CUSTOM Router to PORT 3 of Huawei HG655a VDSL Modem!

STEP 6 (Optional) : Connect to your WEB GUI of your ROUTER, change the IP of your router to 192.168.1.254

STEP 7 : Configure the PPPoE dialler for your router.

NOTE :
Sample Maxis Username : 12345@home.maxis.com.my (Private IP)
Password : 123451 (Always + number 1 to the back of your username)

Maxis comes with Private IP in default, if you want to get Public IP, just give the customer service a call and tell them you want to host your CCTV/etc and request a Public IP from them, they will then activate it for you and will call you back a few more days to teach you how to configure. Basically just change the word HOME to PUBLIC. Username : 12345@PUBLIC.maxis.com.my (Public IP).

STEP 8 (Optional ) : Turn off Thomson Wireless Transmission.

Connect your PC to Thomson Router,
Type 192.168.1.254 into your browser,
Navigate to Home Network -> Interfaces
Click on WLAN: ThomsonXXXXX (XXXmbps).

Click Configure on top right corner.
UNTICK Interface Enabled.

Maxis uses VLAN 621 for Internet, and VLAN 821 / 822 for VoIP (Either one and I think another one will be for future IPTV deployment, expert please help to figure out).

In this modification, Thomson router will be retained for sole VoIP purpose, however full migration of VoIP to Huawei VDSL modem is possible if we have the configuration details for Maxis VoIP. If anyone has it, please share! You may switch off your Thomson router if you don't intend to use the VoIP service.
