Crossover Frequency - Small (literally) Speakers

In addition to my earlier post here (https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/5243969).

Most of us have small speakers due to high WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) or to match room's aesthetics.

E.g. Boston Acoustics Micro with 3" mid/bass and 0.75" tweeter iirc

So which crossover frequency is best suited for these small (literally) speakers?

According to Denon (from X6500H manual):

So at 80hz:

Personal subjective listening experience: Crossover frequencies at 150hz and above creates bass localization (ie the subwoofer's placement is very audible) and is incredibly distracting (negatively affects the stereo imaging) when using only 1 subwoofer.

Potential solution to consider among others: See if it's possible to use a crossover frequency that doesn't lead to subwoofer localization e.g. 120hz. Otherwise, use 2 separate identical smaller subwoofers crossed at >150hz placed right next to L + R mains (prior approval from partner required). However, the placement may not be the best for bass reproduction and this is the sacrifice that has to be made for similar setups

Objective Measurements with IIR Filters Room Corr.

To share my 2 cents (objective measurements) based on my experience in HT and car AV tuning with REW to those who are passionate about room correction / DSP tuning.

Part 1 (this post) - IIR filter (commonly used in entry-level receivers & car DSPs due to lower processing power requirements & easier setup - e.g. parametric eq, delay)

Part 2 (coming soon…) - IIR + FIR filters (e.g. Dirac Live in higher end receivers & car DSP, etc)

PC (Source & DSP):
Windows 10 Home (Build 19042.1415)
Creative BlasterX AE5 PCIE DAC (Driver 6.0.105.58)
REW (V5.20.4)
Equalizer APO (V1.2.1) (Creative front-end bloatware is UN-installed)
miniDSP UMIK-1 (with 90-deg calibration file loaded)
*sampling rate locked at 24-bit, 48khz in Windows Control Panel & REW

Audio Gear:
Pioneer FS52 L+R
Sony DA50ES receiver (multi-channel input, pure direct mode - Large speakers, no crossover)
Pioneer S-MS3SW (poor man’s subwoofer, budgeting for 2x Dayton Ultimax 15)

Psychoacoustic smoothing with 95db to 45db window 20hz to 20khz
75db level matched using pink noise
20Hz to 20khz sweep for individual channels at main listening position (center, 4 inches left & right)
