cant format my laptop

hello guys, i am having problem formatting my laptop. i've tried to use the 'repair' options but it cant work also...

it says there :
setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup problam.

setup cannot continue. to quit setup press F3

thats wat it said...but when i enter the BIOS mode under boot priority order....the HD is still there...

so, any advice ?

question on retrieving datas..

hello all, i have a question here and i desperately needs the answer
actually it was my fren who is having this problem
his laptop cannot enter windows. right after he boot up, it says there something like NLDR file is missing, press any key to restart
but then no matter wat i do it just cant enter the windows
so i'm suspecting that he accidentally deleted some important windows files, therefore leading to this problem
i suggest him to reformat his laptop, but he said he got some important files/datas in his 'my document' folders

my question here is, since his laptop cannot enter windows at all, is there any way he can retrieve his datas from the folder without entering windows ?

question regarding power supply unit

1 question regarding the pin of the power supply, i dun really know how to explain here but i try my best
my power supply is 24x pin, those pin are to be connected with the 24 "holes" in mobo there
but 1 i realise 1 of the pin of my power supply there has no "wire"...which means...there's actually only 23 holes fitted with wire that is to be connected to mobo...
my question here is...is that power supply designed to be like this ? or it's not supposed to be like this ? if it's not supposed to be like this...will it affect the performance of my pc ?

my power supply is gigabyte true power 460w
