Record time played

I found this neat info on Steam which show the time you spent in a game for the past two weeks. More importantly it shows your record time!

EDIT: Whoops looks like the record time is suppose to be total playtime. So yeah from there you can check the record time in your favourite game!

For me its Men of War. My record time is 150.6 hours in two weeks. Which means i spent about TEN hours on it everyday! For two weeks! (which is not lol)
[attachmentid=2033174]

Follow closely is Borderlands for 143.6 hrs. and after that is Killing Floor for 108.8 hrs. The rest is under 100 hrs so not worth mentioning

So what's your record time?

Breach

Breach is a multiplayer fps develope by Atomic Games, the folks behind Six Days in Fallujah. The game is modern military themed, with third person cover mechanics. The star of the game is the wonderful destructible environment, bringing true military tactics to it's fullest i.e. blowing up problems. What makes it's destructability unique among others is the "degradable destruction", which players can sheer of parts of concrete, bricks off the wall, planks off the shack or support columns to acheive physics based destruction.

[attachmentid=1864334]
[attachmentid=1864335]

Destruction showcase on video below

The cover mechanics is pretty slick, with blind fire while covering. Also featuring character advancement like weapons and gadget unlocks as players progress throught the multiplayer. 8v8 class based shooter. Coming out for PC and Xbox, it will only be distributed digitally for $15.

Tho i wish PC version will get extra care like bigger player count or servers but chances are pretty low for a $15 game. I hope it wont end up like similiar DD only shooters Lead and Gold or Blacklight. Nevertheless this game looks cool and Six Days in Fallujah will come out after all.

Advanced Tactical FPS

While people getting upset at no prone or lean in fps, they do not know there are many more awesome tactical features they are missing out, or never realize. I came across a good discussion on how tactical fps can be done:

Tactical FPS features

Also check out this article, its crowned by the author as the best realism shooter ever:
Inflitration mod for Unreal Tournament

A run down on advanced features of tactical fps:
Of course the article is 3 pages long if you wanna to see more features you'll need to read them. Here i just list down what i think it is very interesting to see.

1) Free Look
looking around yourself (turning your head) while your torso remain stationary.

2) Free-aim
Moving your mouse will not instanously move the screen. You can see your arm freely moves around the screen until it reaches the edge of the screen then you'll start shifting your body.

3) Mantling/climbing
Naturally mantle across obstacle instead of jumping over at really low objects. And able to climb over obstacle that over your waist's height.

4) Smooth crouch and lean
Able to lean out and crouch at a variable degree/height.

5) Magazine and bullet count
Reloading your weapons do not automatically fill your magazine with bullets. Some weapons model may have transluscent magazine so you can look at at them to see how many bullets left. May need to lift the weapons to your face to actually see it.

6) Roll while prone
Roll.

7) Unaligned iron sight while moving
Makes run and gun difficult, strafe shooting hard. Does not apply in hip shooting.

8) Inersia
Add in physics to stop players from zigzaging to dodge bullets or instantly sprint to full speed or stopping from sprinting.

9) Rest weapons on stuff
To gain acurracy while shooting. Like resting your weapon on the window. Not just for deploying heavy weapons. Also weapons in your hand can get bumped on objects.

10)Dialling in sights
Need to adjust iron sights and scopes to focus the image on the scope. Makes sniping an effort.

From the article the author cited many of the tactical games are all yesteryears. I only see Arma2 rounding up a lot of the features.

There are games made for arcade shooting, and games made for tactical gaming. So what do you think about the features? Will you like any of the features make into your favourite fps?

Kingdoms Collide

KINGDOMS COLLIDE is a fantasy based 3rd person action game from the source engine!

Released on 15th of March!

Download the beta from the official site:
Kingdoms Collide

The beta will be release on 19th Feb, so check out their site for screenshots and stuff.

Quoted from the site:

QUOTE

AD STYLE SUMMARY

The idea of the game is to have really fun and balanced online multilayer combat with a very high potential range of skill and is all found within a beautiful fantasy setting, the character using a third person camera (so the melee aspect makes sense, unlike FPS camera melee games where people run around like headless chickens unable to see their surroundings). Also, like most typical fantasy RPG's we wanted to have a good level of character customization in choosing a unique weapon and skill set that suites you - as well as making each player able to have unique role within their team enabling incredible depth to teamwork, tactics and strategy!

FEATURES:
SKILLFUL MELEE: The sword fighting system, which is meant to be the basis of the game, is very complex but can be used in a variety of ways depending on your skill. You can either play with lightning fast reflex responses and win every fight, play by randomly parrying and attacking, which yields some success, or by choosing a shield and ignoring the melee element of the game entirely.

SKILLFUL ARCHERY: The bows and arrows are not easy to use like a gun in HL2. There is no cross hair, the arrow does not fire directly down your line of sight or towards the center of your screen (so you can't mark a dot in the middle) and the arrows can be fired at different speeds depending on how long you pull the sting. BUT, before you think (THIS IS MADNESS!) Fear not, the archery system does make sense and you can master it to the point of being able to place an arrow wherever you want but it takes a lot of skill!

HEAPS OF MAGIC: The magic in Kingdoms Collide doesn't exactly require skill to use, instead, it is the mark of a good player to be able to wield magic effectively and increse their overall killing power by strategically choosing spells that work with their weapons well and using them in clever combinations.
What spells are there for example?:

* Teleport -instantly transport yourself forwards about 6 meters
* Fire cicle -blow up an area around yourself
* Stealth -be invisible while standing in shadow
* Glacier -summon a great spike of ice to block narrow roads or create walls
* Ensnare -summon roots from the earth to hold an enemy in place for a time
* Blizzard -spray your enemy with freezing wind to eventually freeze them in place for a time
* Fireball -throw a ball of fire

True Sight -all units glow bright with their team colour and leave behind a trail (even when in stealth)

That's just a shortened list of the most tactical spells, I'll bet you can think, just from reading those, how you could use and combine them.

OTHER STUFF:

* 20 unique magic skills/spells
* 10 unique custom weapons
* 5 unique custom characters
* 100+ custom animations
* and much more!

256 players!

And so i came across this PS3 game: MAG and the main selling point of the game is the 128v128 player action!

Come to think of it, what is the largest game server you ever played before? I think the largest i ever played is in BF2 mod Forgotten hope with 32v32 game, im sure the server is fully populated cuz i remember joining the game as the 64th player according to the server lobby.

Im not sure if MMO counts tho. If it counts then alterac valley in WoW can go up to 40vs40, which is awesome. Other events in MMO may able to house up to thousands of players but RPG is really different from FPS.

I also spotted some 64vs64 player server on unreal tournament 3, which is enabled by a mod. I think 128players is the max player count right now?

Unreal Developement Kit

The Unreal Development Kit, which is Epic's game engine for Unreal Tournament 3 and many other titles like Mass Effect, Borderlands, Bioshock, etc etc is now a freeware. Which means many of the great mods for unreal tournament 3 is now available free to the public! Some of the mod developers already ported their games to the UDK, expect to see more to come!

Note: With UDK you dont need UT3 to run the UDK games. Just follow the download links (clicky on the game title), and you are good to go!

Official Link: UDK SHOWCASE <--site updated with a couple of new games, Sanctum and Bounty Arms.

Mods/games that have been released on UDK:
Links on the game titles!

New game(s)!

Terminator UDK at MODDB

It's base on the Terminator Franchise. A showcase of unreal engine's particle effects and physics.

The Haunted
This one my favorite. A coop/versus play involve humans and demons. This mod has not been release under UDK yet but the devs are working on it, and released a pre-udk version on ut3.

Update: this one going retail! Hell's Reach

Enjoy!

(see the 2009 Gamescon presentation)
Squad Command: Players can command fire teams on the battlefield with an easy to use first person interface.
Damage System: A detailed hit detection system. Specific bodyparts hit are more lethal than others. Instant Death, Lethal, Critical and Non-Critical. (showcased in the 2011 GDC video)
Mantling System: Players can negotiate low obstacles, such as climbing over fences, through windows, etc.
Adjustable Sights: Iron sights as well as scopes on weapons are adjustable for longer and shorter ranges. Also includes real scope magnification instead of a zoomed view.
Bandaging: Players can bandage minor wounds to stop themselves from bleeding to death. Non-critical hits will cause half the damage instantly, with the other half occurring over bleed out time. Prompt bandaging can stop the second half of the damage from occurring.
Interactive Weapon Collision: Weapons collide with the game world; the player will raise and lower his weapon accordingly.(See 2009 Gamescon video)
Bullet Penetration: Bullets can penetrate some materials and cause damage on the other side. Degree of penetration depends upon the type of material being shot.
Breathing System: The player's breathing pattern will affect his aim; players can hold their breath momentarily for a more stable shot. Players who have low stamina from sprinting, etc. will breathe harder
Bipods: Bipod mounted weapons will pivot around their bipods when deployed. Deploying, shifing and redeploying bipod mounted weapons is much easier than it was in Ostfront.
Tactical View: HUD elements appear as the player needs them, and are automatically hidden when the player does not. The entire HUD can be brought up at any time with the press of a key.
Weight System: The player can carry multiple weapons as well as grenades, but has a maximum allowed weight and will slow down as they carry more.
Peripheral Vision Indicators: Small indicators appear at the edge of the player's screen to denote possible enemies in the player's peripheral vision. To simulate human eyes' actual field of view.
Character Progression: Players can gain experience and rank. Higher ranked players have access to rare weapons, equipment and classes. Higher ranked players are visually distinct from lower ranked players. If you do poorly, for example tk a lot you can rank down.
Dynamic Music System: Heroes of Stalingrad features a dynamic music system that adapts the emotional mood of the soundtrack to match the morale of the player based on the flow of the battle. To highlight the differences between the two warring powers the game features a completely unique soundtrack for the Russian and German sides.
New Recoil Model: The recoil model is more realistic than that of Ostfront. SMG's have had their recoil lowered and MG's have more recoil.
Ironsights for the Sniper: Sniper rifles now have usable ironsights, as they did in real life.
Destructable Buildings: Any and all buildings are destructible if the mapper wants. Buildings can be destroyed partially, and piece by piece but will still leave ruins behind, so the battlefield isn't bombed flat. (See 2011 video)
Suppression System: Players will be suppressed when under fire (bullets passing or landing close by); the player hears their heartbeat, will breathe faster (affecting weapon sway) and their screen will desaturate and shake a bit. Players can also be suppressed by grenades and artillery. The effect is cumulative and the more suppressed the player is the more pronounced the effect will be.
SDK: The game ships with SDK and a Mapping Tool out of the box. (Also see the Mod section)
Environmental Temperatures: Maps can have set temperatures, which influence the rate at which the MG barrel heats up. This also influences the muzzle velocity of tank rounds.
Ammo Check Button: You can now check the state of your ammo without reloading. (Source: GDC 11 Presentation)
Streamlined Movement and Deployment: The movement is much more streamlined in RO2. If you are in prone, simply pressing the forward and sprint keys will move you out of prone and sprinting forward. When releasing the button, you will automatically return to the proned position. It's also possible to reload/change barrels from a deployed state, while crouching behind the cover you are currently deployed on. (Source: GDC 11 Presentation)

Commander Abilities

Fire Support: There are 3 types of fire support: mortars, artillery, and rockets. Mortars cause a small amount of damage in a small area, rockets cause a large amount of damage over a large area. Artillery falls in between. Fire support takes longer to arrive depending on its size (mortars arrive the fastest, rockets the slowest)
Aerial Recon: The commander can call a recon plane which surveys the battlefield and reports enemy positions. Enemy infantry and tanks will show up on the commander's map instantly (as long as he is near the radio), and will filter down the ranks with a few seconds delay. The plane will only report units it has actual visual contact with; it will be possible to hide from it and shoot it down.
Force Respawn: In critical moments in the battle, the commander can choose to let a reinforcement wave spawn immediately. This ability will be limited.

Multiplayer

Persistent Stats Tracking and Player Progression: Persistence constantly gives the gamer something to strive for and keeps them playing. Grow in rank, earn medals, improve your abilities, and become a Hero – all visible to the complete online gaming community and embedded within the game.
Heroes: Obtain the ultimate goal and become a Hero online. Players with hero status inspire troops around them and cause fear in their enemies. Heroes have access to the best and rarest weapons and equipment, and will stand out visually from the rest of the soldiers. However loosing a Hero can cause the troops to loose their moral.
Co-op: Players can connect with their friends and battle AI in multiple game types including the Stalingrad Campaign, Skirmish Mode, and more.
Competitions & Leader-boards: Compete to obtain unique awards and achievements with players all over the world. The competitions range from shooting range challenges to unique and fun assault courses.
64 Player Support: They are shooting to max out players in a game at 64 (with quite large maps one would imagine) and there are ten maps in the game already. Map size will automatically adjust to accomodate smaller number of players.
Realism Settings: 2 Settings. Relaxed Realism and Realistic. Relaxed realism will include all of the new interface helpers. Realistic will be for the more hardcore players, and will have some of the new interface helpers disabled. Server admins will be able to set up a custom configuration that picks and chooses which features to have.
Deathmessages: 3 Death message settings. Normal, Delayed, and Off. Death messages also display distance for your own personal kills.
Kill Assists: You now get points for assisting a kill.
Server Class Lock: Some classes are locked until a certain amount of players join the server.
Mini-map: The mini-map shows you friendly players, and where your squad mates/squad leaders are.
Custom Server Configs: Server configs are customizable, can be shared, and can even be rated by others.
RO TV 2.0: RO TV makes a comeback making it possible to spectate (clan) matches.
Battlefield Commissions: Low ranked players can earn a promotion by performing well, and get to choose higher ranked classes. This is a temporary ingame commission.
VOIP: Public, Team, Squad, and Vehicle channels.
Spawning: Choose to spawn at a predefined spawn point or on your squad leader (unless you switch to a class that is not part of a squad)

Tanks

Virtual Interior: The entire interior of the tanks is modeled, with useable hatches, periscopes, viewports, etc. The driver, hull mg, and commander can all unbutton their hatches. (see the tank vid)
Tank Locking: Tank commanders can choose to lock their tanks or allow other players to join their crew.
New Tank Damage System: Heroes of Stalingrad has a significantly more complex damage system than Ostfront. Damage to systems such as optics, engine, transmission, turret rotation mechanism, fuel tank, drive sprocket, treads and more are modelled. Shots that penetrate the tank's armor can kill crewmembers inside. Crewmembers have individual hitboxes within the tank and are killable via penetration of an AT rifle round.
Tank Crew (AI/Human): All tanks will have a full crew; any playable positions that are not filled by a human player will be filled by AI. The AI can be ordered to drive, or open fire on specified targets as commanded by the player.
Dynamic tank class system: There will be one tank commander class slot for each tank; as commanders choose to allow human players in their tanks, tank crew class slots will dynamically open up. This means that players don't have to make a choice between having more tanks with solo tanking or fewer with team tanking.
Realistic Modelled Tank Destruction: Tanks can be destroyed by secondary explosions, caused by diffirent circumstances. Fuel fires, ammo blowing up etc.

Latest Screenshots:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Mods!
Tripwire is supporting mods even before the game is released. Depending on how the mod goes, if the mod turns out very well Tripwire may take the helm and polish it for commercial release. And the modders will be given credit and financial compensate for the success!

PC Game and Piracy Examined

This article discussed gaming and piracy in great detail, back up with facts and evidence, and a whole lot of information from various reports. This article also debunks myths and misconceptions in the gaming industry, with concrete data. The analysis performed by the author is very clear and complete, a great article to read for every gamers out there. Because of the extreme detail provided, this article is very long. I have to say, you will need a deeper comprehension in English to able to fully appreciate the message the author is trying to convey.

A word from the author:

QUOTE

"If your only interest in reading the article is to quickly skim through it to see if it supports your preconceived notions of piracy, then you're probably better off not bothering with it in the first place."

I think the author manage to conclude every argument about gaming piracy in this article. So remember the quote above, and do read the whole thing. It is not an boring article (at least for a gamer), you should able to engross yourself in the discussion. When you finish reading it, you will be glad that you have actually read an incredibly informative, non-bullshiting article. This article is almost like a thesis on gaming piracy, but shorter and more enjoyable.

This article largely covers:
-Why piracy hard to kill
-Impacts of piracy to gaming industry
-Console VS PC piracy
-How game developers adapt to fight piracy
-Myths of DRM

I would be grateful if you have read the article before posting any replies regarding game and piracy.

Happy reading!

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

sorry if this article have been brought up before, but i am enlighten by this article and wishes every gamer able to take a good look at it.

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway

Brothers in arms: Hell's Highway is a WW2 tactical shooter released on 6th Oct 2008. The first brothers in arms is released in 2004, using unreal engine 2, in Hell's Highway it is presented in glorious UT3 engine. Brothers in arms series is focus on dispatching enemy forces using authentic combat tactics.

Using the principle of four "F"s, which is Find, Fix, Flank, and Finish you command your squad of fire team, machine gunner, bazooka or tanks to take out your enemy in first/third person fashion. Brothers in arms is played using this formula where you need to FIND your enemy, and FIX them in their spot with suppressive fire. Once pinned, you need to FLANK the enemy by maneuvering from cover to cover and finally to the unprotected side of your target. Then you can proceed to FINISH the pinned enemy.

There's no demo for Hell's HIghway, but you can experience this unique ww2 tactical experience from the previous installment: Earned in Blood DEMO

I find this game is a refreshing take on ww2 shooter, which emphasize squad tactics. Developed by Gearbox software, this game also available on X360 and PS3 and got good ratings at all three forms of version.

Gigantic screenshot warning

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

My graphic card seems to be suck at rendering shadows in most of the games. Here some screenies

When i was using this model viewer in Savage 2, i notice the shadow are much sharper. But then after i apply a "floor" on the model view the shadows turns into crap.

After applying "floor" WTF

any idea on how to fix this?

Well, yesterday i receive my final warning and 72 hours suspension, which is absurd coz i swear to god that i didnt do anything "contrary to the ESSENCE of WoW"

According the penalty hierarchy, one player should receive 3 hours, 24 hours, then 48 hours penalty before getting the 72 hours one. But nooo, i just suddenly got this bloody 72 hours suspension right in my face just like that!

Before this disastrous final warning hit me, i also got a PERMANENT BAN out of the blue, with not a single warning at all! Lucky i am able to appeal to the account admin and got my account back without further complications.....until yesterday.

So anyone got stuck with this shit before? i am a true fair player and really enjoyed WoW but this out of blue ban kills my good feelings for wow.
