Country singer Ingrid Andress has apologised and admitted being drunk while performing a much-derided rendition of the US national anthem, at a baseball stadium.

Andress's erratic performance of The Star-Spangled Banner was widely shared after Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby, in Texas, on Monday.

"I was drunk last night," wrote Andress, who has previously received four Grammy Award nominations.

"I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition."

She added: "I'll let y'all know how rehab is - I hear it's super fun."

Andress's a-capella version of the anthem was called "painful" and "one of the worst national-anthem renditions ever", on social media.

The Daily Beast headline said: "America unites over new all-time worst national-anthem performance."

International Business Machines Corp IBM.N is splitting itself into two public companies, capping a years-long effort by the world's first big computing firm to diversify away from its legacy businesses to focus on high-margin cloud computing.

IBM will list its IT infrastructure services unit, which provides technical support for 4,600 clients in 115 countries and has a backlog of $60 billion, as a separate company with a new name by the end of 2021.

The new company will have 90,000 employees and its leadership structure will be decided in a few months, Chief Financial Officer James Kavanaugh told Reuters.

IBM, which currently has more than 352,000 workers, said it expects to record nearly $5 billion in expenses related to the separation and operational changes.

Investors cheered the surprise move by Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna, the key architect behind IBM’s $34 billion acquisition of cloud company Red Hat last year, sending the company’s shares up 7%.

“We divested networking back in the ‘90s, we divested PCs back in the 2000s, we divested semiconductors about five years ago because all of them didn’t necessarily play into the integrated value proposition,” Krishna said on a call with analysts.

BIG BLUE’S NEW FOCUS

In a blog, Krishna called the move a “significant shift” in the 109-year-old company’s business model.

“IBM is essentially getting rid of a shrinking, low-margin operation given the cannibalizing impact of automation and cloud, masking stronger growth for the rest of the operation,” Wedbush Securities analyst Moshe Katri said.

IBM, which has sought to make up for slowing software sales and seasonal demand for its mainframe servers, said it would now focus on open hybrid cloud and AI solutions that will account for more than half of its recurring revenues.

Krishna, who replaced Ginni Rometty as CEO in April, said IBM’s software and solutions portfolio would account for the majority of company revenue after the separation.

The company also said it expects third-quarter revenue of $17.6 billion and an adjusted profit per share of $2.58, roughly in line with Street estimates.

NSC to issue stricter MCO guidelines on Saturday

CORONAVIRUS | The National Security Council will be issuing stricter guidelines on Saturday, to ensure compliance with the movement control order.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this could include stricter rules on those going out for necessities.

"There could be more restrictions on making purchases, buying food and so on. I can't announce it yet because the NSC will come out with the stricter SOP," he said at a press conference today.

This is to ensure that the MCO succeeds in its goal of breaking infections of Covid-19.

Ismail added it was up to the public to ensure that the MCO, which has been extended to April 14, would not be extended further, and they can do this by staying home.

Earlier, he said five percent of the population were not complying with the order.

"At supermarkets and markets, some practise social distancing but many do not.

"Things might be calm in the city, but there are still many vehicles going about, many people still go out," he said.

So far, 110 people have been detained for violating the order, and 163,487 vehicles inspected.

To date, Covid-19 has infected 1,796 Malaysians and killed 21 people.

Meanwhile, Ismail said in an effort to better coordinate Covid-19 measures, federal ministers will sit in on all state security council meetings as soon as possible.

He said the federal representative will hail from the respective states whose meetings they will sit in.

PETALING JAYA: A total of 1,133 areas in Klang Valley have been hit by unscheduled water supply disruption.

According to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), the three Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plants (Sungai Selangor Phase 1 Water Treatment Plant, SSP 2 WTP and SSP 3 WTP) had to be shut down due to odour pollution in the Sungai Selangor raw water source.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd Customer Relationship and Communication Department head Abdul Raof Ahmad said a total of 1,133 areas involving 1,166,842 customer accounts in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat will be affected by the unscheduled water supply disruption.

"All efforts are being undertaken to resolve this problem," he said this in a statement Friday (July 19).

Air cond blower selection problem

Hi guys,
I am having problem with my Proton Persona where the aircond blower selector is malfunctioning. If I select blow face, it only blows floor, and when I select blow floor, it doesnt blow at all. Is it a faulty blower module? How much would a replacement cost?

Loud engine sound (like whinning)

Good day guys, Recently I service the Kancil 660cc to a 10w-30 motor oil. The car is 2nd hand. I noticed that after driving above 3k RPM, there is a whinning sound, sorta like turbine fan on airplane. When below the RPM, there is no such sound. It doens't sound like timing belt slipping sound. Could it be worn piston ring or bearings?

Door keep sensing is open

Need you help guys

I am having problems with my door although closed, the indicator on meter says the door is on. It happens intermittently. But cause problems such as my alarm going off. What is causing this?

Btw I want to disable alarm, how to prevent it from arming? Cause when manually use key to lock, the alarm seems to armed back. It's like when you disarmed the alarm, after a while it will arm back.

Windows Live Messenger keep disconnecting

Good day everyone,
Since more than a month, my WLM will disconnecting very often along with everyone else in my network. We are using D-link 520b router. Every other software doesn't disconnect, only WLM does. It will happen to one person in the network first, then the other and so on. Firewall is disabled on the router. UPnP was enabled but didnt help at all. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks.

I have a problem with forcing all the computers to use OpenDNS. If let's say I have set OpenDNS on my router, but the user tried to bypass it by manually setting DNS in his LAN settings on the O/S, how can I force the user to use the router DNS settings? Thanks.
