Interview: RSM & Folks DFK

hI all, just to share some experience to fellow accounting graduates who is currently job hunting. I wished to provide some experience and tips regarding these 2 firms. RSM & Folks DFK. It's hard to get info here, medium firms dont get much attention compared to Big 4s.

I went to an interview at RSM sometime ago. Got an offer on the day itself.
u shud give it a try. after all it's the 6th or 7th largest firm.

I went to Folks DFK as well, not bad too. "Not too small, but big enough to worry about standards". That's what the audit partner told me. So i think they do have certain standards. They have several PLCs as well. Good exposure i guess.

Both of them offer 2XXX as starting salary. Dont ask me the exact amount. I'm a degree holder, currently pursuing my professional papers.

Location:
RSM (Wisma RKT) - Opposite of Dang Wangi LRT station (Cross the bridge)
Folks DFK (Wisma Tun Sambanthan)- Near Pasar Seni LRT station

But to me, walking to Folks DFK looks very dangerous. Even more so, if u need to work late(definitely will). The road back is dirty(smells really bad with urine) and dark. Use the longer way instead. The one wif a big police station right smack infront.
Unless. if you commute by car then it's a different thing altogether.

Both of them have tests:
Folks DFK: Essay test.
RSM: Account/Audit technical questions (MCQ), Personality test (MCQ), Essay, Subjective questions.

Interviewed by:
Folks DFK: Audit Partner
RSM: Principal, Manager, & HR exec.

Both of them asked me on the spot, a few accounting standards questions. Suggestion to you: Just glance through your FRS, but dont force everything into ur brain. It usually backfires. Btw, i failed my account/audit technical MCQs during interview in RSM. 1 mark away from passing. Eventually the interviewer will ask u some FRS questions just to give u a chance to redeem yourself. So it is time to make a comeback, answer them confidently.

My tips:
1. Keep cool, try not to be too tense, take it like a casual chat instead of an accounting final exam paper. They just wanna get to know you more.
2. On the day of interview, use public transport if possible. U need to get a feel of going to work other than car. So that u will opt to use public transports during work on weekends. Try out whether it is convenient to you or not.
3. HR usually rushes you to come for an interview the next day. Don't blame them, they are just doing their job. Ask to schedule it later. 1 week later or few days later will do. It helps you to get ready for the interview interms of studying for it or getting into the mood for interview.

I have attended a fair amount of interviews. Ranging from big MNCs like Shell & MAS to small firms like XXX & Associates(which u wouldnt know). Got some offers and fail some as well.
Not to say that i'm an unemployed who desperately needs a job.(I'm working now). I love to attend interviews, just to rate how i'm doing at dealing with interviews.

Just keep trying. Eventually you will get a job. Because everbody deserves a chance.

Firstly, Anyone heard of this?

It is an ERP Solutions Provider. Partnered to Fujitsu. There's a few Japanese in the company as well. I'm in for a second interview.

Job: Financial Application Consultant
Description: I will be working in the support team
Qualification: I'm an Accounting student.

Secondly. What's the prospect like? Izzit hard for Acct/Finance to venture into ERP area?

[addedon]May 19, 2010, 9:34 pm[/addedon]Interviewed twice. One from dept senior, one more from director himself. (In a span of 2-3weeks)

Got the job 1 week after the 2nd interview.

What i know from the company:
1. There is some restructuring & expansion going on in the company.
(good thing is, i hope i'm part of it. bad thing is, restructuring sometimes create chaos)

2. My job is more of support role for ERP clients.

3. Most of the customers are overseas, but they are looking into tapping the local market as well. (which translates into overseas system implementation opportunities for me)
