Setup Wireless Network

I am not familiar with networking.
I currently a streamyx user, with Aztech DSL600EU and a 5-port switch.

I wish to setup a wireless network so that I can access internet when i bring my laptop to living room.

I hoping to reduce the cost as low as possible.
What I planning to do is keep my modem, buy a new Wireless broandband router (such as DLink DIR300, Aztech WL830RT4 or Linksys WRT54G).

So i will plug the telephone line to my old modem, and plug a network cable from modem to new Wireless broandband router. At the same time, I can use LAN and WLAN to surft internet.

My question is: will it work as what I planned?
The reason is my old modem is a router modem, combine the new Wireless broadband router, now it have become 2 router function. I dont know how to explain. But I still feel that this combination is weird where how to assign 2 router function on the network.

Please Help.
Thanks.
