HP Pavilion tx1200 series

Hi,

I'm very attracted to the HP Pavilion tx1214 tablet notebook for University purposes. Mainly its the touchscreen, fingerprint security, intergrated webcam, altec lansing speakers, its small size and relatively light weight that caught my attention.

Recently I found a new package which is cheaper than the original RM 4,999

Only difference is,

- AMD Athlon 64X2 1.7 GHz (TK-53 i think) as oppose to AMD Turion 64 X2 1.8 GHz (TL-56)
- 160 GB 5400rpm HDD as opposed to 120 GB 5400rpm HDD

The other specs are the same, ie

- 2048MB (66MHz) / max to 4GB DDR2 Memory
- 12.1" WXGA high definition HP Brightview Wide Touchscreen Display (1280X00)
- DVD +/- RW Double Layer Drive
- Bluetooth
- Wireless 802.11 a/b/g
- Genuine Microsoft Windows Home Vista Premium

This package is selling at RM 3,099

I did ask the promoter about the huge price diff. His comments were that Athlon uses up more power, thus heats up faster, and its relatively slower when running VISTA. However, his advise was to upgrade the RAM by another 1GB (at RM100) and he claims that the performace is as good.

My only concern is that there might be a catch to this as the price diff still doesnt convince me of its performance. Furthermore I've not done much research into Lappies hence would not want to rush into purchasing one as I still have until end of this year to purchase one that I like.

I would like to know more about the performance of this Data Processor, Athlon, and the cons of using a tablet notebook (as oppose to the normal ones)? Is it worth investing? I was told that HP and IBM computers are quite good investments. However, are there any other better recommendations (similar to this)?

My budget is within RM3500, and I only need reasonable graphics and video cards. The lighter the better, and hopefully a fingerprint security? (lol, quite fascinated over that feature, but not a major requirement)

Any help would be great. Thank you very much

Tse.
