Indonesian Teen Model Escapes

Manohara Odelia Pino, 17, told reporters she was treated like a sex slave after her marriage to Tengku Temenggong Mohammad Fakhry, the prince of Malaysia's Kelantan state, last year.

Her mother, Daisy Fajarina, said she would press charges against the prince and blamed the Malaysian and Indonesian governments for trying to cover up the abuse.

"The things I've been afraid of were revealed to be true. Manohara has suffered physical abuse. She's got several razor cuts on her chest," Fajarina told AFP on Monday.

"I will sue him. No parent could be silent if their child was treated in such a barbaric way."

The Malaysian government had ignored her pleas for access to her daughter and had blocked her from entering the country, she said, while the Indonesian embassy had said that Manohara was fine with her new husband.

But the young woman -- a well-known socialite in Jakarta -- said her life at the royal palace involved a "daily routine" of rape, abuse, torture and drug injections which made her vomit blood.

"I am still traumatised by all that happened and it has left an impact on me," she told reporters in Jakarta on Sunday, after escaping the royal family during a trip to Singapore over the weekend.

"Sexual abuse and sexual harassment were like a daily routine for me, and he did that every time I did not want to have sexual intercourse," she was quoted as saying in The Jakarta Globe.

"I could never think a normal man could do such things," she said, adding: "Some parts of my body were cut by a razor."

She said she was forced to pretend she was happy with the prince and to attend social functions with him as his happy young bride.

"Every time I went for events they forced me to smile and would torture me if I did not do what they said," she told the press conference.

She said she secretly called Singaporean police and pleaded for help after the royal family took her to the city state when they accompanied Fakhry's father, Sultan Ismail Petra Shah II, for medical treatment.

A spokesman for the Indonesian foreign ministry said the government would help Manohara if she wanted to file charges against her husband.

She has already filed for divorce.

There has been no comment from the Kelantan royal family or the Malaysian government.

Help Needed: Identify Exhaust Muffler

Recently, I upgraded my exhaust system and I was told by the boss of the exhaust shop that the muffler he's installed on my car is a Tanabe racing muffler... The muffler itself does NOT have any form of identification such as brand name embossing, etc. that identifies it as a Tanabe... I asked the shop how would I know that it's a genuine Tanabe muffler, he answered that there was a sticker pasted on the muffler when he bought it that says it's a Tanabe...

Now personally, I went and conduct some research on the Net on how a Tanabe racing muffler looks like in terms of design, and sure enough, Tanabe DOES have their own signature design for their racing mufflers... And the muffler on my car does NOT resemble any of the Tanabe racing mufflers I saw on the Net...

I hope some of the exhaust sifus here can help me identify which brand my muffler belongs to... Either the exhaust shop boss do not know how to differentiate from one brand of muffler to another, or I may have been duped by the shop for giving me a chapalang-brand racing muffler...

Update (16/2/2009):

Went back to the exhaust shop last Saturday and discussed with the boss about the issue, he explained to me that the used Tanabe muffler I have on my car originally belongs to a Tanabe racing exhaust system set (extractor, mid-section & cat back) meant for the Toyota Trueno AE86, as it comes in a set, it doesn't have "Tanabe" embossed on every section of the exhaust system...

After the explanation, he told me he's willing to buy the muffler back from me in full price and let me choose another muffler of my preference... He told me that I could either go for a brand new Tanabe Super Medallion Racing muffler (with certificate of authentication) or something more quieter like the HKS Sport Exhaust muffler (also with certificate of authentication)...

Update 2 (23/2/2009):

Last Saturday, I took my car back to Lai Exhaust to change my muffler... After much research on the Net, I finally decided on the brand new Tanabe SMR (Super Medallion Racing)...

Sci-fi Author Michael Crichton

In "Jurassic Park," made into a blockbuster 1993 movie, Crichton's human characters were chased around by rampaging dinosaurs created genetically on an island run by an ambitious scientist.

"The world knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us -- and entertained us all while doing so," the family statement said.

His "family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes," it added.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," it said.

"He leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world."

The family appealed for privacy and said no details of the writer's funeral would be released.

Crichton was born in October 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He studied anthropology at Harvard and also taught at Cambridge University in England before spending time in Europe and North Africa.

He then returned to the United States to train as a doctor, writing thrillers to pay his school fees.

In 2005 Crichton's 600-page best-seller "State of Fear" sparked controversy by casting doubt on claims of the dangers of global warming.

US film director Steven Spielberg, director of the Jurassic Park movie, paid tribute to Crichton.

"Michael's talent out-scaled even his own dinosaurs of Jurassic Park," Spielberg said in a statement. "He was the greatest at blending science with big theatrical concepts, which is what gave credibility to dinosaurs again walking the earth.

"Michael was a gentle soul who reserved his flamboyant side for his novels. There is no one in the wings that will ever take his place."

Rest in peace, Michael, I enjoyed reading some of your books and some of the movies that was adapted from your books.

WTA: Quantum Racing Suspension

Hi all,

I recently came across a Japanese aftermarket suspension manufacturer called Quantum Racing Suspension in a Taiwanese tuning magazine, R-Spec. Am wondering if anyone here has ever heard of this brand?

According to the R-Spec, there was an article doing an interview with famous Japanese tuning company, RE Amemiya, and in the interview, the no. 2 guy in RE Amemiya (they are a Rotary engine specialist) claimed that Quantum suspensions are one of the best money can buy... Is Quantum really as good as he claims?

Please do share your opinions on this brand (should you know).

I caught this on my camera phone by chance... It appeared that the Naza Ria was parking at a space where motorbikers park their bikes (although it's not a legal parking space for bikes)... I believe some of the bikers got pissed and they exact "revenge" by releasing air pressure on all 4 tyres of the Ria...

The Ria owner was lucky that the vigilantes did not scratch his/her car... This Ria is still new judging from the number plate...
