Hi to all sifu here...wanna get some advice on building a new rig for normal home use...budget is around 1.5k (even better if can be cheaper )

mainly for surfing+movie+microsoft office...

Problem details
Problem description:
I stay in a condo and found out that I was not able to connect to internet for few days, thus, called the tm...they sent a technician and found out that my phone port was burn...

The tech said that it was strike by lighting and need to re-wire my phone line (cost me RM150 to do tat)... then the line went back to normal...

But after few days...I cant connect to the internet again...I checked the phone port, it burn again... but my PC, modem still working fine...no sign of burn...

Wanna know is anyone encounter this before? it there other possible causes other than lighting? (as I dont recall any lighting recently)

Just wanna know what other things I should check before the tech come over and ask me to re-wire again...

P.S I didnt use any surge protector (will this help if I get one???)
