Carousell: chat history 2b retained 1 year only

Got this email 4pm yesterday:

Hey there xyz,

We are informing you of an upcoming change to our chat history retention policy that may affect your past conversations.

What’s changing?

Starting 23 April 2025, chat history will only be retained for one year. This means:

• Initial Deletion: On 23 April, 2025, all chat logs dated 31 December 2023 and earlier will be deleted.
• Annual Deletion: Going forward, chat history older than one year will be deleted annually.

Why are we making this change?

To keep our system running smoothly and ensure a seamless experience for all users, we need to optimise how we store chat logs. While we understand that past conversations may be valuable, storing large volumes indefinitely requires significant resources. This change will help improve system performance and allow us to better allocate resources for a faster, more reliable experience.

How to retain your chat history

If you have important conversations you’d like to keep, we recommend manually saving them before 23 April, 2025, as we won’t be able to recover deleted messages after this date.

CarouBiz subscribers will continue to have full chat history access.

How to manually save? Is there a feature on the app to download the chats to our devices?

Disney Hotstar not playable on windows devices

For the past 2/3 months i haven't been able to watch any Disney Hotstar shows on my windows devices, because the video will hang after 20-30 seconds of playing.

I have tried 3 browsers (edge/chrome/firefox) with the same results, on 3 different PCs:
- tv stick (win8, intel atom, ram 2gb)
- laptop1 (win10, Pentium N5030, ram 8gb)
- laptop2 (win10, Ryzen 3500u, ram 8gb)

My tv stick was playing stuff fine on the 'Medium' setting previously, while the other 2 devices had no problems with 'High'. Now I think only laptop2 can handle 'SD' without hanging, but still not watchable because of bad stuttering.

Netflix performance has not changed for all 3 devices (can watch without issues).

My iphone XS and Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 (2015 device) can use the 'Full HD' option without stuttering, in the Disney Hotstar app (didn't try on mobile browser).

I noticed that they changed the options in the video quality settings (previously was High/Medium/Low?, now is Full HD/HD/SD). Did Disney Hotstar change their streaming format/codec or something? Are there any codec packs i can install to fix this?

Lenovo ideapad 5 15 - speakers unbalanced

Took the plunge and ordered the ideapad 5 15 (ryzen 7 4800u) on 18/1, got it the next day.

Everything is fine except the speakers are unbalanced, left channel on the high side, right channel not much highs and a bit bassier.

I checked the realtek audio settings and dolby settings and everything is showing the balance slider is in the middle. Slide it left and left speaker works with emphasis on the highs; slide it right and right speaker works with emphasis on the lows.

Anyone else have this issue? Can anyone having any model in the same series (2020 ideapad 5 15, intel/amd) test and give feedback please? 🙏

Battery life: Ryzen 5 2500u / 7 2700u

Hi guys, I’m placing an order for the lenovo e585, and I’m wondering if the Ryzen 5 cpu option would be better over the Ryzen 7, if battery life is a bigger priority?

Base & turbo clock:
Ryzen 5 = 2.0 & 3.6 GHz
Ryzen 7 = 2.2 & 3.8 GHz

Price difference is negligible, but I don’t wanna get the Ryzen 7 if it ends up draining the battery faster and getting throttled more than the Ryzen 5 :-/

[WTA] instant shower advice

Hey guys,

My apartment has OK water pressure, and can use instant shower heaters without a pump when using the mains.

But when there's a water disruption, the water from the tank is super crazy slow.

So I've decided to get a new instant shower heater with pump, but need help comparing some of the specs (attached pic):

[attachmentid=8760812]

1. The difference in the power rating, does it affect the pump power as well?

2. Min water pressure - is there a noticeable/big difference between 4.9kPa and 10kPa ? (considering the poor water tank pressure)

3. Max water pressure - is 343kPa considered powerful enough? (wondering why the Hitachis are the only ones with these figures)

6. Separate pump on/off switch - does anyone know if the Hitachi models have them? (to use the heater without the pump when mains is ok)

FYI i don't really care about the heating power, the pump power is more important for me.

Can anybody please advise?

WTA: MyBook Live + UPS

Hey guys,

I've got a Western Digital MyBook Live NAS at home, and currently it's being hooked up to a normal Koss AVR.

Lately there have been some power outages at my apartment, and I'm worried that it will end up corrupting my data, so I'm looking for a UPS that can tell it to shutdown whenever anything happens.

Ideally, I want the NAS to shutdown upon notification from the UPS, and once power has come back on/stabilized, to NOT restart (I'll start it manually when I want to).

My problem now is: the MyBook Live model that I have does not have a serial/USB port. Are there any UPS models that can send alerts through ethernet?

Maybe I haven't been searching hard enough on WD's site, but so far I've not found anything about it anywhere.

Help please, anybody?

As explained here:
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30874

The new flag -Z is unreliable, use the old ones instead.

Not a problem if you actually want to downgrade the bootloader, but those who prefer to stay at 4.6 should take note.
