A few days ago, French developer DON'T NOD published a financial update that practically reads like a company staring down an existential crisis. Cash reserves have also been bleeding out fast: DON'T NOD had €9.8 million in gross cash at the end of June 2026, which had already dropped to €8 million by the end of July. Comparing that to the €15.4 million the company held at the close of 2025 makes the trajectory impossible to ignore.

Admittedly, the writing was on the wall, as the French studio has been on a rough stretch for years. DON'T NOD built its reputation on beloved narrative-driven titles like the original Life is Strange, but its more recent output has struggled to replicate that success. Vampyr, Tell Me Why, Twin Mirror, and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden all received fairly positive critical reception but failed to become the kind of breakout commercial hits the studio desperately needed. Most damningly, last year's Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, explicitly referenced in this very report as contributing only partial PS Plus and Game Pass revenue rather than meaningful retail sales, has followed the same disappointing pattern.

The company has already been through multiple rounds of cost-cutting and restructuring in recent years as its financial situation deteriorated, but as the latest filing plainly states, such efforts aren't enough to restore DON'T NOD's competitiveness on a sustainable basis.

In response, DON'T NOD says it's refocusing its French operations around a single production line rather than running multiple parallel projects, a move intended to consolidate expertise, sharpen resource allocation, and maintain a continuous project pipeline heading into the future. Honestly, they should have done that years ago instead of employing this scattershot approach: between 2023 and 2026, the development team released five games, but none were a commercial hit.

DON'T NOD says it's continuing to explore "the most appropriate legal and operational arrangements" to support the transformation, leaving the door wide open to further restructuring, asset sales, or external financing deals in the months ahead. With the company explicitly flagging that its survival depends on securing external financing to cover business operation and project development needs, the next several months will be critical in determining whether one of France's most storied narrative-driven game studios can pull itself back from the brink, or whether Aphelion will go down in history as the last game the studio ever released.

Katanya, antara faktor lain ialah pengaruh gaya hidup takut ketinggalan (Fear of Missing Out atau FOMO) dan hanya hidup sekali (You Only Live Once atau YOLO).

“Menurut beberapa laporan, tekanan media sosial dan gaya hidup mewah (seperti gaya hidup influencer, percutian dan barang berjenama) mempengaruhi sesetengah belia berbelanja melebihi daripada kemampuan.

“Lantas mereka kemudian berhutang melalui pinjaman mudah seperti pinjaman peribadi dan BNPL,” katanya kepada Kosmo! semalam.

Menurutnya, trend kebankrapan dalam kalangan belia wajar diberi perhatian serius apabila statistik sepanjang tempoh enam bulan pertama tahun ini menunjukkan seramai 74 belia telah diisytiharkan bankrap.

Katanya, keadaan itu didorong oleh trend orang muda yang cenderung menjalani gaya hidup mewah sehingga sanggup memohon lebih daripada satu kad kredit, sekali gus meningkatkan beban hutang.

“Sebagai contoh, terdapat kes ada individu telah bankrap kerana mengemukakan permohonan kad kredit ke pelbagai institusi kewangan secara serentak dan pada masa sama kelulusan kemudahan pun serentak.

“Kemewahan yang dikecapi hanya sementara dan akhirnya menjadi beban apabila penghutang tidak lagi mampu membayar hutang kad kredit, tambahan pula faedahnya tinggi antara 15 hingga 18 peratus setahun.

“Perbelanjaan yang tidak berhemah ini akan memberi kesulitan kepada penghutang dan akhirnya menyumbang kepada kebankrapan,” ujarnya.

Menurutnya, secara keseluruhan, sejak 2022 sehingga akhir Jun lalu, seramai 26,782 individu telah diisytiharkan bankrap di seluruh negara.

Daripada jumlah itu, golongan berusia lingkungan 35 hingga 44 tahun paling ramai diisytiharkan bankrap iaitu 10,655 individu, diikuti usia 45 hingga 54 tahun (7,723 individu), 55 tahun ke atas (4,355 individu), usia 25 hingga 34 tahun (3,802 individu), usia 20 hingga 24 tahun (74 individu) dan tiada maklumat (173 individu).

“Berdasarkan statistik terkini itu juga golongan lelaki paling ramai muflis iaitu 19,208 orang, diikuti wanita 7,488 orang dan tidak pasti 86 orang,” katanya

Menurutnya, dari segi pecahan bangsa pula, Melayu paling ramai diisytiharkan muflis iaitu seramai 14,884 individu, diikuti Cina (7,704 individu), India (1,940 individu), lain-lain (2,114 individu) dan bukan warganegara (140 individu).

Justeru, beliau mengalu-alukan orang awam yang telah mendapat perintah kebankrapan supaya hadir ke Jabatan Insolvensi dengan segera.

“Kehadiran mereka ke jabatan serta kerjasama yang diberikan boleh membuka peluang kedua untuk kes mereka dilepaskan pada masa hadapan,” katanya.

Pada 17 Julai lalu, Kosmo! melaporkan, Kementerian Kewangan (MOF) dalam jawapan bertulis melalui laman sesawang Parlimen memaklumkan jumlah pemegang akaun BNPL meningkat kepada lapan juta bagi suku pertama 2026.

MOF berkata, berdasarkan jumlah pemegang akaun itu, jumlah baki terkumpul BNPL mencecah RM5.3 bilion, manakala jumlah tidak berbayar pula sebanyak RM181 juta atau 3.4 peratus daripada jumlah baki terkumpul BNPL.

As per the latest reports from Yonhap News and The Guru, the AI5 chip will largely be built on Samsung's 2nm process technology at its Taylor Fab in Texas, US. It is yet to be confirmed what process technology the chip will use at TSMC fabs, but the leveraging of Samsung's 2nm node gives the Korean semiconductor giant a big boost to its chipmaking endeavors, and brings a lot of confidence in the highly debated status of its 2nm manufacturing capabilities.

According to industry sources on the 13th, Kim Jeong-gon, a senior engineer at Samsung Foundry, posted on his LinkedIn on the 11th (local time) that "the Tesla-Samsung AI5 chip has entered the tape-out stage (the stage where the design is completed and the blueprints are handed over to the foundry plant)." He added, "This chip is scheduled to be produced at the Taylor plant using a 2nm process and will soon be installed in Tesla's latest products."

AI5 is the follow-up to HW4 and will arrive as a next-gen FSD solution for Tesla. In a previous talk, Elon Musk stated that AI5 will offer a monumental 40x improvement over the HW4 chip, with 8x raw compute capabilities, 9x memory, and will deliver brand-new features. The chip itself is expected to offer close to 2500 TOPS of AI compute, 144 GB of memory per chip, and is designed with the latest transformer engine in mind.

But there's more, Elon Musk has also stated previously that solving AI5 was an existential task for Tesla & it will be a very capable AI chip and AI platform. AI5 will be offered in multiple configurations, one being a single-SOC that rivals NVIDIA's Hopper, and then a dual-SOC design that rivals Blackwell while costing much less to produce and using way less power. So we can expect some competitive Perf/$ & Perf/W versus NVIDIA's latest AI offerings.

The chip is expected to be manufactured at TSMC and Samsung, with high-volume production slated for late 2026 or early 2027. Elon has shared plans to move next-gen chip production to the upcoming TeraFab, but its announcement is still pending.

Meanwhile, Elon also confirms that work is already underway on the next-generation Tesla AI6 chip and Dojo3. Since Tesla announced a return to form in the chipmaking business, the plans for Dojo3 are back on track. Tesla resumed the plans for the Supercomputer project back in January 2026, and with Terafab operational and developing DRAM, Packaging, and Chips, all under one roof, this goal should not be far away now.

KUALA LUMPUR: The new base medical and health insurance/takaful (MHIT) plan will enter its pilot phase by the end of July as authorities step up efforts to tackle rising medical costs, says Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

The Finance Minister II said the pilot programme, involving selected insurers, takaful operators and private hospitals in the Klang Valley, forms part of the government's RESET strategy introduced in June last year to address rising healthcare costs and private medical insurance premiums.

He said the base MHIT plan is expected to be rolled out nationwide in January 2027.

"The government introduced the RESET strategy as a comprehensive, targeted and high-impact framework to control rising healthcare costs and private medical insurance premiums," he said in response to a question from Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) in Parliament on Tuesday (June 30).

Amir Hamzah said the strategy is overseen by the Joint Ministerial Committee on Private Healthcare Costs, comprising the Finance Ministry, Health Ministry, Bank Negara Malaysia and other stakeholders.

He said the committee has made "significant progress" since its establishment, with five key initiatives already implemented.

These include the publication of the white paper on MHIT in January 2026, the release of common treatment cost ranges at private hospitals to improve price transparency, the World Bank's medical inflation report in April, consumer tools to help Malaysians assess insurance needs and claims, and tax incentives for charitable funds set up by private hospitals.

He added that the base MHIT plan would be reinforced by the phased implementation of the Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) payment system, which aims to standardise hospital charges and allow fairer, centralised negotiations with private hospitals.

"This creates a transparent framework and benchmark to manage hospital charges while protecting consumers' interests," he said.

Responding to concerns from Hasni over reduced government spending, Amir Hamzah said the recent expenditure rationalisation would not affect core healthcare services.

He said the Finance Ministry had reduced the Health Ministry's operating expenditure adjustment to RM500mil, far below the RM3.1bil figure circulating on social media.

"The adjustment only involves non-critical operating expenditure. Core spending on healthcare services, medicines, salaries and on-call allowances remains unchanged," he said.

He added that the allocation for medicines has been increased to RM6.5bil this year, while more than 18,000 healthcare workers will continue to be recruited without any reduction.

Amir Hamzah also revealed that several private hospitals have already established charitable funds following the introduction of tax incentives announced last year.

He said the funds would help finance treatment for patients from the B40 income group at participating private hospitals.

He added that the plan is designed to be affordable, sustainable and easy to understand.

“Unlike many existing products, the plan will allow individuals with stable and controlled pre-existing medical conditions to obtain insurance or takaful coverage, subject to terms and conditions,” he said.

He added that the plan will also not be linked to investment-linked products, shielding policyholders from investment risks that can contribute to higher premiums.

"The wider risk pool and product design are intended to help control premium increases, particularly as policyholders grow older," he said.
