Problem with cursor when AC adapter plugged in

Hi guys & gals,

Hope all of you can help or shed some light. Here's the story:

My AC adapter for my DELL Inspiron recently died on me. In fact, the cable "terputus". Anyhow, I was down at Lowyat Plaza the other day and managed to source for a replacement AC adapter with the same voltage etc.

Here's where the problem starts.

SHORT STORY:

When AC plugged in, cursor on screen is unresponsive. When using the laptop battery, no problem. This happens randomly, sometimes no problem when AC is plugged in.

Anyone face this issue before and know what's wrong?

Thanks.

LONG STORY: Click On Spoiler to read the long explanation.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I tested out the AC adapter at the shop, plugged it into my laptop and it charges the battery with no problems. However, when I started moving the touchpad, the cursor on the screen didn't respond. It's either slow, or in some cases when I move the touchpad, its as though a "drag and select multiple icons" is used. Sometimes, the cursor just seems to fly around the screen - like in maximum sensitivity setting.

When I pulled out the AC adapter, everything was back to normal!

The shopkeeper was surprised at first, claiming there was dust on my touchpad. But then I showed him that without the AC plugged in, everything was working fine. I then plugged in the AC again, and the cursor was acting all funny again.

He then took another unit and I tested it, and it was fine. So I bought that unit. When I got home and used it again several hours later, the same problem!

Now, this is really weird as I've never heard that an AC adapter could cause the mouse cursor to go nuts. This problem seems to be happening on and off. Anyone of you encountered this problem before?

I just tested with a mouse, and AC plugged in and it seems to be working normally

I'll probably be reformatting my laptop, its about time anyway. Just wondering what the issue is cause its really weird. In the meantime, if the problem persists, I might just have to run on batteries, and only use the AC for charging the batteries.

Thanks.
