Asking on behalf of my fren, anyone knows where / who I can recommend my fren to look for to repair his sub ?

I am not sure exactly the model, it's Velodyne 12" (either CHQ or Impact I presume).

Attached, looks like 1 out of the 3 PCB is fried - I've not seen the actual sub, fren sent to me the pics.

Share - What SPL Meter do you use ?

I couldn't find the one Max was using when he calibrated my HT, it was an Radioshack Analogue and I think it's already 'extinct'. I am aware most SPL meters are +/- 3db accurate based on what I've read so far...care to share what SPL meter you are using (if any) and their price any any tips that I need to look out for before getting one ?

Based on what Max adviced, we need to use C frequency, Slow mode to measure and try to calibrate to 75db for speakers and maybe 80db for 'hotter' sub run.

I am thinking of getting this one.

Will Marantz AVR 'sounds' better with Music ?

Hello all,

Still learning in the arena of HT.

I am thinking of upgrading (I hope it's a right call here) my 5 year old AVR (2008 Pioneer VSX-818V 130w x 5) and am looking at Marantz AVR (to make use of my entry level Marantz CD5004 Player).

I am down selecting to either the latest entry level 100w x7 SR-5007 (with 4k passthrough) or the previous 1 range up 6 series model 110w x7 AVR SR-6006 (current is 6007 with 4k passthrough).

Main reason to upgrade is that my AVR not able to decode Dolby True HD and DTS-HD/MA and I want to try them out, tired of seeing those stream available in my BD but can't experience them. (itchy hand factor also...)

Cannot afford too high range and trying to maintain below 3.5k budget for AVR as my overall setup is still amateur as well.

Question seek:
1. Anyone here using Marantz AVR and has advise on whether there is a clear difference between series 5 and 6 ?
2. Is the 4k passthrough really a good future proofing investment at this point ?
3. [KEY Question] I am trying to not get into Components or Integrated Amps for my CD-Player hence I choose Marantz AVR with an assumption of it having more balance towards Music compared to other Makes like Onkyo/Pioneer/Denon/Yamaha..assuming at about the same level/class. Is this a safe assumption (assuming the speakers and everything else remains as is with a change of AVR).
4. Is there noticeable difference between DTS/DD with DTS-HD/Dolby True-HD ? As in can the ear really tell or I should just keep my current AVR ? :-)
5. Reading through forums, I was also made to understand Marantz's Audyssey MultEQXT is far more superior than Pioneer's Advance MCACC. Is that true and will help in self DIY calibrating the AVR back home ?

Current setup: 60" Pana Plasma, Pioneer VSX-818, Klipsch F2 Floor Stand front + Klipsch S2 Surround + Boston Acoustics VR12 Center + + Marantz CD5005 CD Player + My HTPC + SVS-PC12 NSD from Bro HTKaki.

I've done my paper comparisons but still believe to get a balance view from forum as well and not just relying tech sheet. Unfortunately I can't get a unit home to test and neither can I bring my AVR around to compare so next best is to ask around.
