Help with Hard disk purchase knowledge

I bought a 3.5" external hard disk enclosure (Smart-drive) some time back to put in the largest Gb hard disk available and affordable which I will use to back up my data and if possible an OS too, just in case something goes wrong with my PC. Info on the box: Interface USB 2.0 to IDE, whatever that means.

What I want to know is what reliable hard disk can I use costing around RM300. I am no computer geek so simple (non-tech) language helps. I am a Planter retiree self learning the computer and internet stuff.

Need help with booting problem

I used Acronis OS Selector 8.0 to partition the disk but was careless in not observing and just click next... At end of installation, the machine rebooted and then get that message that windows could not load due to not enough resources

Only today I was able to create the bootable disk for cutepm which was suggested when I posted my problem last month. What I saw on booting is as the "menu.gif" attached which I copied from the site and edited with the data found on my computer. Couldn't find anywhere at the cutepm site what to do and as I don't really understand those data, can anyone tell me what to do? In FAQ, it mentioned that the software is only capable to edit, delete or create partition. Where then do I point to delete the partition.

I goofed! Need help

I got a new Dell PC and tried to partition but was careless to observe the size and just click next... next and when the PC restarted the OS (XP Home) would not load with the message "not enough resources". I saw through another software which before setup indicated that the harddisk have partitions and I noticed that the partition with the name of the harddisk is around 45 MB I think.

Can anyone show me how to resize that partition so that XP can load? Can resizing be done thru the C prompt. If so how do I get to that dos and what are the things to do?
