Etymotic Research

Quite surprise there is no thread for this brand, it was one of the top and famous brand at all time, kinda hard to purchase last time due to there is no reseller/distributor in this region. However i just got my ER4S from Jaben recently, this brand can be considered one of my dream from many years ago.

QUOTE

Etymotic Research, Inc. is an engineering-driven research, development and manufacturing company. The name "Etymotic" (pronounced "et-im-oh-tik.") means "true to the ear." Mead Killion, Ph.D. founded Etymotic Research in 1983 to design products that accurately assess hearing, improve the lives of those with hearing loss, protect hearing, and enhance the listening experience of musicians and music lovers everywhere.
With deep roots in acoustic research and the hearing aid industry, Etymotic invented insert earphones in 1984. Etymotic's original earphone design used balanced armature receivers, which established these speakers as the gold standard for high definition in-ear earphones. The first versions were used for diagnostic testing and precision auditory research (ER-1, 2, 3). Etymotic produced the first noise-isolating high-fidelity in-ear earphone, the ER-4 (1991), which became the basis of all subsequent in-ear earphones and in-ear monitors worldwide, and created an entire category of consumer electronics. The ER-4 earphones are still produced and channel-balanced to within 1 dB in Etymotic's labs in the US.
Innovation, education and hearing conservation are central to Etymotic's mission. Etymotic's products are used by scientists, hearing practitioners, hearing-impaired consumers, professional and amateur musicians, and others who insist on superior sound quality. Audio engineers, audiologists and musicians working together have generated over 100 patents issued and pending. A number of Etymotic's 60 employees are accomplished musicians. Etymotic Research is located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Currently Model:
*EtyKids 3
*EtyKids 5
*MC2
*MC5
*MC3
*HF2
*HF3
*HF5
*ER4S
*ER4PT
*ER4B

Let's discuss, i believe this brand is quite new to Malaysia market.

Whoever stays long enough in this forum, guess you are familiar with Beyerdynamic from German.

Recently announced of their latest Custom Pro series, not just letting you to adjust Sound signature (4 settings), but also going for Custom design plate specially made for you.

Pretty amazed by their concept, seem they really hit hard on headphone and consumer market.
Haven't heard the unit myself, but i going through some reviews, seem pretty promisingon the sound, will definitely give it a try when i had the chance (will Jaben bring them @.@?)

here are some information:

CUSTOM Sound Slider

With the new CUSTOM Sound Slider, you can easily adapt the audio profile of the headphone to your personal taste - or to the music you are listening to. There are four completely different profiles to choose from, ranging in style from analytical to “heavy bass“. CUSTOM delivers some of the cleanest, heaviest bass out there but you always have the possibility to regulate its intensity.

CUSTOM Style

Another unique feature is CUSTOM style - this lets you choose from hundreds of designs and easily change many parts any time after the purchase. CUSTOM can be a different headphone every day. But more than this, you can be the designer yourself and create your own personal headphone.

Specification:
Transducer type : dynamic
Operating principle : closed
Nominal frequency response : 5 - 35.000 Hz
Nominal impedance : 16 ohms
Nominal SPL : 96 dB
Max.
Yo everyone!
just found out a great amplifier after a long searching for small portable amplifier, previously was thinking of Fiio E6, after for a long try and personally prefer something more pure and overall enhancement instead of bass boost.

And i finally got in from Govibe!

The amplifier itself is having a great build quality, it is build with aluminium solid housing material for durable usage, looks like a traditional small lighter with very basic features in it, there is no on/off button, no volume control.
Feels kind of like back to square one, everything is convenient and easy to be used.
I'm currently using this for outdoor travel usage, the shirt clipping is pretty amazing for my purpose, it can clip on my shirt/sling bag without worry much on volume setting and buttons.
The weight level is superb, light and easy =D

The Govibe Mini Box Amplifier (2012 version)

Unboxing Video[SIZE=7]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RamtCgOqrb0

Review & Impression[SIZE=7]
http://www.head-fi.org/t/621094/review-gov...-and-clip-it-on
http://iahpt.wordpress.com/2012/08/01/revi...r-2012-edition/
http://www.wheninmanila.com/govibe-mini-bo...-ive-ever-seen/
http://www.chisto.me/news/world/item/3147-...govibe-mini-box (Old version)

Jaben also runs an online-store at jaben.net.

3 models will be offered: XP1, XP2 and XP3, all sharing the same design, but featuring different sound images. The sound quality and design of the products were developed in cooperation between beyerdynamic and JABEN. All three are sold at USD 58 through jaben.net.

The XP in-ears are mainly tailored to meet the needs of the Asian markets. Our research has shown that the tastes of Asian consumers are very specific, and quite different from those of our European and American customers, when it comes to sound, design and packaging. For these specific reasons, we decided to introduce these three in-ears exclusively in Asia.

So should you ever run into a review, post or comment about the XP series, please be aware that these are not copycats or anything illegal, but meant exclusively for the Asian markets. Our partner Jaben assured us to deliver only to Asian customer, but if any XP in-ears show up in your market, or in case you receive warranty claims from customers, please let us know immediately.

Source : http://asia-pacific-india.beyerdynamic.com.../xp-series.html

Where to buy in Malaysia?

Jaben Audio Malaysia - KL SS15 Subang Jaya Outlet
Jaben Audio Malaysia - PG Strait Quey Shopping Mall
Jaben Audio Malaysia - PG Gurney Paragon Shopping Mall
Jaben Audio Malaysia - Sarawak Kuching, ONE Jaya Shopping Mall, Sarawak Kuching
AmplifiedHead - JayaOne PJ (Formerly know as WowLoud)
MacCity Apple Premium reseller - One Utama
MacCity Apple Premium reseller - Aeon Cheras Selatan
MacCity Apple Premium reseller - Aeon Melaka
Pantera Apple Authorize reseller - Viva Home Cheras
MacStudio Apple Premium reseller - Plaza Lowyat
MacStudio Apple Premium reseller - BB Park
MacStudio Apple Premium reseller - Bangsar Shopping Mall
MacStudio Apple Premium reseller - Paradigm Mall
I-Store Apple Premium reseller - Publika
I-Store Apple Premium reseller - Digital Mall Section 14
My Bytes Apple Authorize reseller - Tropicana City Mall
HotSpot - Plaza Lowyat
HotSpot - Bangsa Shopping mall
MyFutureWorld Apple Authorize Reseller - Parkson@KL Festival City Mall
MyFutureWorld Apple Authorize Reseller - Parkson@Mahkota Parade (Melaka)
MyFutureWorld Apple Authorize Reseller - Wangsa Walk Mall.
MyFutureWorld Apple Authorize Reseller - Sunway Giza Mall
High Tech Multimedia - Danga City Mall, JB
Music Master Studio - 16, SS2/10, PJ
Lazada.com.my - Online Store
Superbuy.com.my - Online Store

Do you need burn in?
*Yes, according to user Beyerdynamic Xp series starting to shine in around 70+ hours, fully perform in 150+ hours.

What can you tune about the sound?
*I did have a play with the double flange and stock single flange tips, the sound is pretty different between these two.
Double flange provides better staging and more extension on treble & bass spectrum.
Single flange offers better speed and impact, everything moved forward with more aggressive sound enhanced.

Why i don't any bass respond in the earphone? i thought they are strong?
*Most probably the fitting issue, as angel fit requires better fitting due to their natural solid in inner ear canal, twist a little bit around your ear, with noise isolated seal you can get great bass respond.

Do 3 of them just different on bass quantity?
*No they are not, base on my personal experience and customer feedback, 3 of them presented different signature to your taste, try them if you are able to.

Cable microphonic sound?
*The "bup" sound when the cable touched your body. Try to slide up the cable slider to a comfortable zone, it will reduce a lot.

Review Section

InEarMatters Beyer XP review
inearspace.co.uk beyerdynamic XP review
http://springheadphone.blogspot.com/2012/0...series-xp3.html
http://www.head-fi.org/t/623923/review-bey...e-budget-market
http://www.wheninmanila.com/beyerdynamic-x...d-tough-design/
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry54474102
http://meganusa.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/b...-series-review/
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2472360/+620
http://soundperfection.blog.com/review-bey...amic-xp-series/
Earmass

Swimsonny Unboxing Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTWxflyLM70...player_embedded

*Proud User of Beyerdynamic XP Series

XP1
-Walabies
-Noobandroid
-fe3doe
-SSlim
-cristiano7mu
-beh0211
-cristiano7mu
-skycrawler
-Azyune
-Secondrate
-peterG

XP2
-Walabies
-SSlim
-c@w^2
-digitalove_70s
-archinkent
-mareno77
-shiki_arc
-Hazmatyre
-JohnAb

XP3
-Windboy
-Wildwestgoh
-Walabies
-Topet
-Discretesound
-Zandara
-Bzz
-SSlim
-Ashburn98
-kennethkee93
-Shimon
-siahkh
-Gamesky
-Eugene88
-ego draconis
-Noobandroid
-Nicotine
-Neozlee
-Ziafang
-Khangsheng1
-Eir
-SomeoneElse
-KingGeo81
-Lesslie
-Maynotbe11

In term of performance, temp, driver compatible etc?
Which 1 is more value for money?
Im using i7 2600k and gtx260 atm, planning to play games like battlefield 3

Thanks in advance for all the reply.

hi there, i bet this type of question had been asked for many times.

however, is extra RM200 really value for I7 2600k compare to I5 2500k?

im a heavy gamer, love to play all the latest hardcore great graphic game, E.G COD series, upcoming battlefied 3 and more.
and im considering upgrade from my c2d to either I5, I7, may i know do they have big different in performance?

i did a major research through google, but those are usually reviewed at January, all the latest heavy taxing game on pc requirements are coming usually on end of this year ,
my concern is that will I7 2600k last longer compare with I5 2500k in term of gaming performance?

E.G such as upcoming Battlefield 3 which i believe required more proc power.

is it more future proof if i go for I7 2600k?

need opinion, thank you so much

P/S sorry for my bad english
