As title, i have been curious as to why TMnet has not been able to provide ADSL2/2+ service, when many other countries including our neighbour Thailand are able to roll out ADSL2 connection for a long time already?

Terrible SNR margin, fix?

Firstly take a look at my line stats taken from my modem (TP-Link W8901G).

I understand how SNR margin and attenuation work, and apparently my upstream SNR margin is terribly low, causing frequent disconnections. Now the tricky thing is, it only happens when i pick up my phone and can clearly hear bursting noise. When that happens, my internet basically disconnects every 15 minutes, connects back, just to disconnect 15 minutes later. At other times when i don't hear any noise from the phone, the internet is fine.

I called TM last week and the technician did not actually come to my home, all he did was left a pink paper with the word 'Close' under the comment section. I am sure he didn't even bother to press the door bell or call me because i was at home whole day.

Do you guys think how this issue can be fixed? I have done every isolation test and tested my line with 3 different modems, clearly it's not my equipment's problem. Should i insist that the technician come into the home and check the line physically? Any help would be appreciated.

[FREE] Nitro PDF Reader

Quick features:

1. Microsoft Office style Ribbon interface

2. PDF tabbed browsing

3. Create PDF files from almost any format including HTML, text, Doc, JPG, PPT...

4. Extract text or images from PDF file

5. Add notes, highlights, or text anywhere in PDF

6. Fill in PDF form and save it, instead of needing to print it out

7. Create signature

8. Disable Java Script and restrict internet access

Only downside is no integration into Firefox. Does not bother me though as sometimes Firefox crash because of viewing PDF file. Ribbon interface fits nicely with Windows 7. Better than Foxit reader in my opinion. Try it yourself and comment.

For Windows XP, Vista, 7 only. 32-bit and 64-bit versions available.

Official website: http://www.nitroreader.com/

Alternative way to stop explorer.exe (Vista/XP)

Sometimes you find out your start menu, taskbar, folder windows etc stop working, but other applications such as media player like foobar2000 or Winamp still runs in the background playing music, chances are your explorer.exe crashes and most people think the PC crashes and need to restart, and some people with average computing knowledge will open Task Manager, end the process, and run explorer.exe again. But there is actually an alternative, not so brutal way of ending the life of explorer.exe.

AddictiveTips.com points out a way to properly restart Explorer.exe in the proper way, both in Vista and XP.

Windows Vista

1. Click the Start button.

2. Hold CTRL+SHIFT, right click on any empty area of your Start menu, you will see Properties and Exit Explorer.

3. Choose Exit Explorer.

4. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, choose Start Task Manager.

5. Go to File>New Task(Run...)

6. Type explorer.exe, click OK.

Windows XP

1. Click Start>Turn Off Computer.

2. When the shutdown dialog appears, hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click Cancel, this will shut down the explorer.exe

3. Now press CTRL+ALT+DEL to start the Task Manager.

4. Click File>New Task(Run...)

5. Type explorer.exe, click OK.

Source : http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/...ta/#comment-710

I hope you find this useful to help you avoid unnecessary restart to save your time, have a good day.

Easily change Visual Style with StyleSelector

hi everybody, i've been away for a few months from Desktop Customization thread since i came to Australia, no time to go desktop modding and due to the crappy laptop with 1gb ram and built-in gpu i don't feel like want to do anything to it...

but now i want to give it a try although just with firefox and foobar on my RAM is already using 80% of the total usage .

ok, since i'm using Vista and i don't want to mess around with the system file, so i was looking for a '1-click-style-changer' type of software, and i've found this Japanese software quite useful.

StyleSelector - let you switch to any 3rd party visual style with just one click, what you need to do is only to place the folder that contains mssstyles file in the 'Styles' folder, and you can switch to it just by applying the Visual style. It is very easy to use and you don't need to install any program. It also lets you to change the current font used by Windows to any fonts that you installed.

Link

http://hsiw.web.fc2.com/

i've tested it and it works with windows Vista, but i'm not sure about XP as it is designed for Vista. If you've tested it and confirm it's working on XP do let us know.

LCD Display. Glossy and non-glossy

I am aware that there are 2 types of LCD screens, glossy and non-glossy, and most notebooks today use reflective display, and each brand markets their technology under different name, like BrightView(HP), CrystalBrite(Acer), TrueLife(Dell), etc.

Although most of the notebooks now come with glossy display, i believe there are still non-glossy display available, for example, Dell Vostro series let you choose LCD panel with or without TrueLife technology. I am not sure if my assumption is right, but i think LCD without TrueLife = non-glossy = matte display = traditional LCD screen.

I have asked about different types of screens in the forum but it seems nobody gives me a clarification on the issue so i decided to open a new topic to talk about it.

How to judge if a notebook comes with a glossy or non-glossy screen by just looking at the specification?

I asked this question several times to different people including a computer shopkeeper but the answer is 'all notebooks now come with glossy display'. But why i can still see matte display screen at the Internet?(Like this) Is that only in US people can get to choose between a matte and glossy display?

I hope those who have real experience can come and enlighten me on this issue. I bet the shopkeeper doesn't even continuously update his knowledge base by just giving me this rough answer.

Using RMclock

i'm learning to use RMclock to undervolt my Intel T7500 in my acer 5920G, i'm also running Orthos Beta to test the stability of my settings. Now the question is, can i make my processor to run at a certain multiplier? Like forcing it to run at 9x.

I don't quite understand what will happen when i press the Start button on Orthos. Does it make my processor to run at full speed(11x)? I have already set 11x to use 1.1250V and it reports no error after i run for several minutes. Now i want to make it run at individual speed (7x,8x,9x,10x) to see how is the stability for each voltage i set.

Really need some help here. Thanks in advance.

For those who prefer 2007, could you tell me the benefits of using 2007? Why don't we just use 2003 since most of the people are using 2003?

as topic, since different countries have different financial market institutions, would that also mean that a finance degree obtained in country A is less appreciated in country B?

Example,

if i hold a bachelor of commerce major in finance given by an Australia university, would i face any problem if i intend to come back to Malaysia for my career? since what i learn would be based on Australia's financial market and monetary systems, maybe Malaysia firms would appreciate less?

My CPU temperature

hi, i have experienced some unstable temperature from my CPU lately. I'm using a TrendSonic PSU, and my CPU is 1.5 year old. The problem is, sometimes the CPU is normal, but sometimes the temperature will get high, while i'm just using Firefox to surf net. And when it gets high, i can smell something burnt. Is it because my PSU has got unstable performance problem? Below is the screenshot of my SpeedFan.

Information :

1. I open the half cover of the casing

2. PSU is TrendSonic 450W

3. I have air-conditioning device in my room, normally operating at 27-28 celsius.

4. I can smell burnt(little) when my hard disk and dual-core processor both are at above 42 celsius.

5. No smell when it's normal.

EDIT : i copied down my PSU spec and here it is

Model : T-450ATX
DC : 450W
AC Input : 100-130/200-240V~ 50/60Hz 6.5/4.5A
+3.3V : 35A
+5V : 48A
+12V : 26A
-5V : 0.6A
-12V : 0.6A
+5VSB: 2.0A
+3.3V & +5V MAX : 280W

I'm really afraid this thing might blow up and wondering is it my PSU has got problem. I hope someone can give me some advice. Thanks.

Make only taskbar transparent but not icons

You guys probably already know of the freeware Glass2k, which can make your taskbar transparent. But what i would like to complain is that when i set the taskbar to be transparent, the icons (quicklaunch) and words are also made transparent as well ! This reduces the readability of the words and a little less useful.

Is there any program that can only make taskbar transparent but not the icons and windows?

constant 20-40% CPU usage during first hour

hi all, recently my computer seems weird and i hope to seek answers.

1. when i start my CPU, the PSU generates weird buzzing sound, and returns to normal after certain period, like 30 mins (looks like a warm up ), but if i immediately shutdown, and turn it on again, no more noise comes out.

2. sometimes my LCD monitor seems unable to work, making me to forcefully press the restart button on the CPU several times and unplug/plug the LCD connector.

3. hard disk seems to have a lot of activities during startup although no applications is being run, even at the logon screen ! But become normal after 40 mins to 1 hour.

4. CPU usage is spiky, ranging from 20% to 40%, sometimes peak to 90%, then everything went back to normal (<10%) after the computer is on for 40 min to 1 hour (related to hard disk usage?)

i tried downloading HDD Life Pro and look at the Read and Write usage. Write usage is ok at only 3% but read usage is always more than 40% while i'm not doing anything ! I wonder what is it doing

is it because of PSU? i hope gurus here can advise me is it time to get a new PSU, thx !
