Best car under RM75k

Hi All,

I just got a baby last year and it's becoming increasingly painful to take him around because of the almost non-existent boot space in the myvi. put stroller also boot penuh already... hahhaahah... =)

so anyway, i'm in the final year of my loan for my Myvi (last 9 months if i remember correctly) and i'm thinking of changing to a sedan so that got more space to put baby stuff and travel in more comfort. i'm not really a car freak so i probably won't be doing much (if any) modification or changes to the car. my preference is for a stable car that can get me from A -> B. I travel outstation once every 2 months or so. Budget is a consideration, so anything above RM75k will be almost immediately ruled out.

At the moment, the Nissan Almera is kinda attractive for the price..... taken from: http://www.livelifedrive.com/malaysia/new-...an-almera-sedan

Almera 1.5 E costs RM69.8k. That would give me some extra cash for some additional stuff from nissan.

The traditional Vios, City, Forte models are all above the budget that i have, but i'm keen to know if anyone has any other recommendations / POVs.

Naza Blade 250 efi (naked)

i'm considering getting a bike because currently travelling to and from work is proving to be pretty costlly and increasing traffic during peak hours is pretty irritating.... i'm considering getting the blade, and from what i've read, the newer manufactured blades seem to have less problems and seems to be very decently priced for a 250cc bike as compared to bikes like the CBR250, T2 and Kawa 250.

i'm hoping all the sifus / taikos / veterans / otais can provide some feedback...

1. the only bike i've owned and ridden is the EX5 (during schooling and uni time) with no experience with clutch bikes. will this be an issue? will the blade 250 be too big a beast to tame?

2. i'll most probably be using this bike on the LDP and also the ELITE / NKVE (i work in cyberjaya and stay in PJ). any concerns?

3. i like the naked bike over the R version, and i believe the price is <15k OTR for the naked version. any feedback on the naked version? most of the comments i've read are for the blade 250R

4. i've been reading that spareparts may be an issue ,but at the same time, people are saying that with a assembly plant locally, this shouldn't be a problem....

how?

Learning Cantonese via LYN

So here's an idea i came up with recently while thinking of a way to improve my cantonese. I want to learn conversational cantonese, but I don't know how to read the chinese characters, and I want an avenue where I can ask people what a particular word or phrase means, hence this experiment:

People can ask for meanings or usage about a particular word / phrase in romanised and then all the sifu / veteran / terror merror canto speakers can give input.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I'll start:

I've always wanted to know what is the difference between the following words used:

ke lian
hor lin
chai leong
mo ku

they all seem to mean "pitiful". how do i differentiate the use between these words?

HTC One V vs Nokia Lumia 610 vs SGS Advance

My super old Nokia E63 is in the last phase of its lifespan and i'm just looking around for cheap, mid-range-ish phones that won't cost more than RM1000. So far, the few models that have caught my attention (planning to get with telco plan so that it's cheaper) are:

HTC One V - Android ICS with Sense 4.0, single-core processor (1GHz)
Samsung Galaxy S Advance - Android Gingerbread, dual-core processor (1GHz), Super AMOLED screen
Nokia Lumia 610 - Windows 7.5 Tango, single-core processor (800MHz)

the phone will mainly be used for the following purposes:
- email (pop3 and also smtp)
- social networking (fb, twitter)
- chat (whatsapp)
- take photos
- web browsing
- watching videos

The most expensive will be the samsung galaxy S advance, followed by the HTC One V and finally Nokia Lumia 610 being the cheapest. All seem to have their pros and cons, so will be happy to hear what you guys would recommend.

Using Streamyx Credentials in a different location

I'm using the Streamyx 1 mbps package in my apartment in PJ. I recently installed streamyx back in my hometown as well, but a lower package.

I've tried using my 1 mbps package credentials when i'm back in my hometown but it doesn't seem to work (I turned off the modem in PJ already). From a common sense perspective, this should work right?

Please advise.

Screamyx and their hidden costs

I recently got streamyx for my mom, and since she's a very basic user, I got her the cheapest streamyx package, i.e. RM20 for 10 hours. when i applied, i asked them what other charges i would need to pay for, they said nothing else since I would need to buy my own router and set it up myself.

However, when I got the bill, there was an additional RM75 charge in there. i went to TM point to clarify, and apparently that's a one time installation fee charge. is this true?

After that, I asked whether I can upgrade to RM44 for 60 hours since the first package i signed up for doesn't seem to be enough. Then I was told there would charges, but they can't tell me how much "yang tu billing yang buat". ????? can someone please clarify this for me?

[WTA] Need to get a new CPU

Hi All,

I need all you sifus advise and help. The Dell pc that my mom had in the house sudah KO and it's pretty old, so I'm planning to get her a new CPU. However, I don't really have that much budget to play around with, so i'm interested to know what's the best I can get for RM1k (and below).

My mom will only use the pc to browse the internet and perhaps watch some movies. she won't be using any graphic intensive stuff like illustrator or anything like that. her internet usage is minimal, so i'm still letting her use dial-up (don't laugh), and so, all recommendations must include a network card that can still plug into phone line...

i've been looking at dell's inspiron 560, but i'm wondering if i decide to build something similar, how much would it cost? the specs are as below:

Intel® Pentium® Dual CoreTM E5800 Processor (3.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Basic 64-Bit
2GB (2X1GB) DDR3 SDRAM Memory(SYSTEM MEMORY will only perform at 1066MHz due to chipset limitation)
320GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive with Native Command Queuing
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 Graphics
16x DVD+/-RW Drive

lastly, if i were to buy a DIY type CPU, can i get the shop i'm getting it from to do all the installation for me ah? i'm pretty dumb and setting up PCs and stuff, so was wondering whether shops would do it for me for free or something....

would appreciate your help because i'm hoping to get this CPU settled and present it to me mom as a mother's day present... =)
Which Fuji Xerox printer has better print quality?

The main comparison that I would like to get feedback on is purely the printing quality. The C1190FS is an older model while the CM205B is the new generation laser printers that use SLED technology. I went to a printer shop in digital mall and the salesperson said that although CM205B is a newer model, the C1190FS has better print out quality. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Sliding Window for Condo

Hi fellow home owners... I require your expertise and experience to help me out.

I recently purchased my own condo unit and I've just moved in. 'm thinking of installing sliding windows at my yard / wet kitchen area to solve a few issues at the same time:

1. keeps the rain out. currently, it does get wet when it rains heavily, which is not good since that's where i hang my clothes
2. keep the smoke and smell out since i've installed a hood and the exhaust pipes through that area
3. allows me to still slide open the windows to allow air flow when i wanna dry clothes.

if you guys have contacts for contractors who can do this with good workmanship and reasonable price, please let me know? so far, i've only managed to get this random contractor to quote and he's quoting me RM800.

thanks for your help in advance! =)

Centralised Astro Dish got problem

I'm staying in an apartment in USJ (goodyear court 7) and just last week, there was suddenly NO reception for my astro. my wife called the helpline and was told that if we wanted the technician to come over and check, it would cost RM50.

When I came back from work, I spoke to the call centre and told them that I don't mind paying if the problem was my decoder. However, if the problem was the centralised dish, why on earth should I pay RM50???

Today, technician called up to say that it's memang the centralised dish that has a problem. However, some residents are opting to install their own dish instead for RM100 (or something like that).

I have a few questions:

1. If the centralised dish is rosak, whose responsibility is it to replace / repair it? Astro or Management?
2. If the residents are opting to install their own dish but I still want to use the centralised dish, is there a problem? I don't want to install my own dish because I may be moving soon.

Would appreciate feedback, especially if there are those staying in Court 7. Thanks!

hi wahai sifu in LYN,

i have a hp deskjet 3550 which has served me well for the past few years, until last week, when it suddenly decided it didn't want to switch on.
but besides using another power socket and pressing the "on" button, i don't know what else can be done to troubleshoot the printer before i write it off as a complete wreck and get a new one...

appreciate your help.. thanks!

Lumix TZ5 vs Canon A720

My budget is about RM1300 (just because someone in LYN posted he got the lumix for about that price) and below.
currently, i'm tempted by the 2 models given above.

Lumix TZ5:
what i like:
- 10x zoom!!
- 9 MP
- small in size and easy to carry around
- leica lens

what i don't like:
- no manual functions (according to reviews).. pretty much point and shoot
- price... hahahah

Canon A720
what i like:
- 6x zoom
- 8 MP
- manual functions available
- RM999 can get

what i don't like:
- bulkier than TZ5
- uses 2AA batteries
- no 10x zoom??? hahahah

i'm open to other suggestions for the same price, but will marry the good distance for zoom and yet makes manual functions available that i can use as i improve...

i really can't stretch the budget more than RM1.3k, so please don't tempt me with more expensive models... it will kill me! heheh...

thanks!
